Genna said it all in her short description:
Julie Ellis and Luke Muldenhower are high schoolers in love. They're lives are going great! Luke is going to get a scholar for football and Julie is an honors student. Suddenly, they're perfect world comes Based on the book "Don't Die, My Love" By Lurlene McDaniel. Summary written by Genna Reeves {g_reeves02@YAHOO.COM}
I can really see this film appealing to a young crowd, as it was intended. It's very sports-oriented - the boy, Luke, is the star quarterback at the high school. Beth Broderick plays the girl's mom, and she's always good, conveying an attorney's sophistication and later, compassion and support. Adrienne Barbeau is Luke's mom.
The story is poignant and also predictable. There really isn't anything exceptional about it, except Barbeau's problems with her employer.
Given all that, I cried like a baby and hated myself.
It seems that there are a lot of movies out there, mostly movies made for television, that try and deal with young love and some sort of tragedy. It's become so common that they often don't touch our hearts anymore, because they just follow a formulaic pattern. Let me assure you that this is NOT the case with this movie.
The movie is based on Lurlene McDaniel's book, Don't Die, My Love, and I had to take off one star for the sheer fact that the movie doesn't do the book justice. There were some key scenes that I really think should have been included in the film, especially the final part of the book, which is probably the most touching thing I have ever read (but I won't spoil it!). So, all in all, this is a significantly above par movie, but if you liked it, you HAVE to read the book!

- Citações
Patricia: Julie, nobody can tell you that they know what you're going through, but I remember how I felt when my mother died. I was only 14 years old and there was really nobody to share it with. There were days when I thought I would just up and die.
Julie: That's how I feel.
Patricia: I know... but sooner or later you're going to have to go on with your life. That's what Luke would have wanted. He would want you to be happy.
Julie: How can I be happy without him?
Patricia: Because some day when you least expect it, you're going to fall in love again.
Julie: I'll never love anyone the way that I loved Luke.
Patricia: Maybe, maybe not but you're going to have to try because life is full of risks--just like Luke's surgery.
