This is a great moment to be the Pet Shop Boys. The ultimate Eighties synth-pop duo are having a renaissance right now, just in time for the 40th anniversary of their classic hit “West End Girls.” They have a brilliant new album, Nonetheless, their zippiest of this century and one of their best ever. New fans are discovering them in films like Saltburn and All of Us Strangers. They even scored the ultimate 2024 status symbol: a beef with Drake, after Aubrey Graham used “West End Girls” without permission for “All The Parties.

Back in March, Philippe Gamer and France-based Space Patrol studio introduce a gang of crazy hawt chicks in an insane car chase with the cops from their animated short The Chase.  Unable to leave these femme fatale behind, Gamer wants to kickstart G.I.R.L.S, a rock band based around them and he needs your help financially to complete their first music video.Embedded below is a video featuring lead bad girl Gertie herself giving the pitch and she explains what have been done so far and the requirements to complete it.  Also include is the short film incase you missed it the first time around....

Just like the title implied, Philippe Gamer's animated short The Chase is an exercise of pure, unadulterated vehicular mayhem that gives Michael Bay a run for his money.  With four petal-to-the-metal femme fatale, insane 360 roller-coaster-esque highway roads and a crap load of car crashes, I reckon you should check your brain at the door for this guilty pleasure. 5 years in the (and 3 years after we first covered it) making, Colin Fleming and John Garside retro sci-fi homage to showreel Sci-fi - Max Neptune and the Menacing Squid - has finally been completed. Described by its creators as “A live action Sci-fi adventure, based on the old 50’s serials such as ‘Flash Gordon’ and Commando Cody," the finished Neptune looks like pure escapists, entertaining nonsense of the highest order. And therefore, of course, makes it worthy of a re-mention. Its looks like they havnt yet been able to secure a full distribution deal, but you can pick up a copy on DVD from the movies official site. Synopsis: Earth has found itself in the crosshairs of a distant race of marauding space aliens! With the peace and security of the entire universe teetering on the edge of chaos, the United Planets rush their greatest leaders to an emergency summit on the Earth's Moon.

Ivan Guerrero has done something very cool. He’s taken loads of classic sci-fi movie clips and spliced them together to make a 50s-style movie trailer for The Empire Strikes Back. Guerrero has more of these “Premakes”, but this one is a must-see. I just can’t help but marvel at how he was able to find the right old clips to make a reasonable comparison to the iconic imagery of Star Wars. But he did and it’s damn impressive.

Emmy-winning writer Stan Berkowitz has been chosen to receive the WGA West Animation Writers Caucus' animation writing award.

The lifetime achievement honor will be presented Thursday night at the Awc's annual awards ceremony at WGAw headquarters in Los Angeles.

Berkowitz's animated TV writing credits include "Legion of Super Heroes," "The Batman," "Transformers: Animated," "Superman," "Spider-Man," "Justice League," "Static Shock," "Ben 10" and "The Brave and the Bold." In live-action, Berkowitz has written for "Dragnet: The 90's," "Power Rangers: Space Patrol Delta," "The New Adam 12," "Mike Hammer," "T.J. Hooker" and "The Adventures of Superboy and Cover Up."

His screenwriting credits include "Street Corner Justice" and "Acapulco Gold."
