Warrant

During a jail riot instigated by jailed convict Jaggu (Joginder), the Jailer, Arun Mehra's (Dev Anand) life is threatened, and another convict Dinesh (Satish Kaul), risks his life to save Arun. Arun and his mom, Mrs. Mehra (Sulochana) find out that Dinesh is on death-row for killing noted Professor Ashok Verma. Arun does not believe that Dinesh is guilty, and so he arranges his escape and as a result he has not only the police, including his very own dad, Inspector General of Police Mehra (Pran) after him on a manhunt, but also underworld don Master (Ajit Khan) and his men; and a cold-hearted female assassin (Zeenat Aman) who has reserved just two bullets in her gun for Arun and Dinesh.

A fun Dev Anand actioner that has enough cloak and dagger thrills to keep one watching. There's an obvious Bond influence right down to the secret lair, matter of the fact the volcano lair is taken from You only live twice and Dev Anand is wearing the same grey suit Bond was wearing, but despite these imitation the film has enough intrigue, a broiling plot and some good action - plus points are the chemistry between Anand and Zeenat Aman. Master villain Ajit, clad in white and smoking a white cigar, is his usual sinister self who is after a formula.

Dev Anand essays the role of a jailor, who has reasons to believe that a death row convicted person is actually innocent. He then goes on a run, thus breaking the law, to prove the innocence and find the real culprit.

Pran is romped in as a senior police inspector and he puts his finest guts to it. Ajit showcases his chomps as a fine villain. The weak link is Zeenat Aman whose skills don't match up to the other legends. The Indian wrester Dara Singh also picks up a role in this flick.

The film picks up pace and there is a good twist towards the end as well. The songs aren't any good though and all of them forgettable. It's nowhere near Dev Anand's peak but while as an actor he does his job, the film itself isn't very steady and sometimes feels a little too long.
