One of the dumbest things you'll ever watch!

I watched this a week or two ago in RAID(Reduce Abuse in Drugs) Our police officer left us this video to watch. We watch a video every week and this one was SO funny. I was sitting beside my friend, Wenster and we were both laughing together. We were told not to laugh but it was too funny. Of course it was not pointless because it was about drugs, but it was weird. It won't only change my life, but it will change yours as well! Nope. Jokes. But it was quite funny and anything but pointless. Watch this at school and you will be laughing nonstop but also getting the message at the same time. Its good, but stupid.

    Check it out.

"There's a million zillion wonderful ways to say no!"

Such a memorable part of my childhood. I recorded it off TV on VHS and watched it many times. Not because I was needing an intervention on drug use, just because I liked seeing all these cartoon characters together who normally never would be. Introduced by then-President George Bush and his wife Barbara, this is a made-for-TV drug PSA starring many of my favorite Saturday morning cartoon characters (and others that weren't my favorites). The characters include Garfield, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, the Smurfs, the Chipmunks, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Alf, Slimer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Michelangelo, Muppet Babies, and Huey, Duey, and Luey. They all come together to help a kid who's been seduced into using drugs by the villainous smoke monster "The Man in Charge." It's the kind of thing that ticks off certain crowds today and I'm sure it ticked them off then, as well. Watching it for the first time in at least twenty-five years, I see the preachiness of it more but it's well-meaning so I don't mind that much. The animation is decent for the time, with a couple of weird sequences that stand out. There's also a song, which is as corny as can be but adds to the camp appeal. Overall it's of interest as a nostalgia piece for people like me and as a curio for animation fans. Will it keep your kids off dope? No, of course not. Will it hurt? No, of course not. It's just fun. If baby Kermit & Miss Piggy taking a kid on a "trip" doesn't make you smile, you need to put out an APB on your sense of humor.

    Another one.

I think the world could use another cartoon like this. I mean it seems like kids are starting earlier every day. I watched this when i was a kid and I started using at 13. With the pull of some anime cartoons and the many known characters on cartoon network, I think something else like this could be promising. Say something involving Michael's own kid ala flashbacks to this ole movie and Michael being able to relate to his kid's problems showing kids that their parents we're young once and have been through all these things themselves. I remember I asked a lot of questions after watching this cartoon and my dad told me a few stories about when he was younger and he did always have a point of telling me the parts about getting busted by parents, the police, and even about his "friends" having to go to the emergency room for doing something stupid while hopped up on something. I live in a small town where kids are apt to get into drugs out of boredom. Things with messages like this have been scarce since I was in school. I guess it might be looked apon as "dumb" to and this comment but who know maybe some TV exect will be roaming the internet for ideas and stumble across this comment. Hell, in todays world I think we could use more positive influences like this.

    Oh my sweet Lord.

George C. Scott is one of my heroes. Let me get this out of the way.

I love Bugs and Daffy, as well as Muppet Babies, Garfield, Duck Tales, and ALF.

I respect George Bush, even if he wasn't my favorite president.

I don't actively dislike the Smurfs.

Let me get all of this all out of the way.

Now let me point out that this special is truly one of the most unintentionally hilarious slices of "Reefer Madness"-style anti-drug propaganda pieces ever put to film (or in this case, video). Nice touches include how marijuana turns you into one of the dancers from "Thriller" or how the nightmare sequence inexplicably features Huey, Dewey, and Louie as the primary tormentors of America's drug-addled youth. Also keep an eye out for the pointless voyage through the brain in which a puff on a blunt is interpreted visually as an outtake from Altered States.

It must have been a recurring joke in the animation studio about how the horrors of marijuana, even as depicted, could never compare to the exquisite terror of waking up to see three 4' ducks in beanies, sans pants, cursing your lifestyle choices.

Ah yes, the specials of my youth...

I am almost 17 years of age, which means, yes, I not only watched this way back when, but I still have it taped. Of course, back then, I didn't care about the anti-drug message, I just cared about seeing all my TV heroes: The Ninja Turtles, Garfield, Kermit, The Chipmunks, etc. Of course, now I actually sort of UNDERSTAND what's going on there. In retrospect, it seems kinda silly that they'd give a big anti-drug message aimed at 4-7 year olds, but they did, and I don't do drugs, so I guess they did something right.

    • Curiosidades
For a long time, it was reported that the special was never rerun because Garfield was used without the permission of his creator, Jim Davis. Garfield e Seus Amigos (1988) writer Mark Evanier stated that Davis approved of Garfield's appearance, but the special could only be shown for a limited time as part of the agreement.
    • Erros de gravação
Some of the cartoon characters are explained as being in "the real world" by being represented as toys that magically come to life, or as characters on a comic book page, but several others simply show up in their cartoon form with no explanation whatsoever.

Bugs Bunny: [encountering Michael in a alley] You know, kid, you don't look so good. What's dis?

[picks up something Michael had dropped by a trashcan]

Bugs Bunny: ... A joint? So, what's the big attraction? I mean how did you get started anyway?

Michael: I started cuz I wanted to. What do you care?

[storms off, Bugs drags him back by the tail of his shirt]

Bugs Bunny: Call it curiosity, doc, but if you're giving me that old 'cuz I wanted to' routine, maybe you need a little memory refresher.

[pushes a button and a box transforms]

      Michael: A time machine?

Bugs Bunny: Heh heh, I borrowed it from some coyote.

When the special is originally aired on the television, the copyright notice for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" characters is not shown, but however it was corrected and it was later added to the home video release.
