- Beau Brandenburg: This is my life.
- Sophia Simone: This is not your life! This is what you do for a living.
- Beau Brandenburg: My mind has to be out there, not in here. So right now this is my life.
- Sophia Simone: So, what am I? What am I?
- Beau Brandenburg: A distraction.
- Joe Tanto: Hey Beau, If this is about Pride, You'd better forget it, Cuz thats how this whole thing started.
- Beau Brandenburg: What would you do?
- Joe Tanto: Me? to get someone back that I really loved? To get that rock out of my stomach? I'd Crawl.
- Beau Brandenburg: You'd Crawl?
- Joe Tanto: Crawl!
- Beau Brandenburg: Joe you never crawl.
- Joe Tanto: Yeah, I'd crawl until there was nothing left, C'Mon Champ Use your head.
- Joe Tanto: I got will and I got faith. I believe you can will yourself in anything and do anything. And faith, that is like believing in something, man that's like having a good disease. It's contagious, if you hang around with people who have it you're gonna catch it, and its gonna change your attitude.
- [In Japan, Sophia Simone does her synchronized swimming routine while Jimmy Bly figures out Beau Brandenberg's next move in racing on his computer laptop]
- Jimmy Bly: What are you doing?
- Sophia Simone: [showing off to Jimmy her synchronized swimming moves] Swimming.
- Jimmy Bly: Swimming? That's swimming to you, huh? I don't think that's swimming; that's uh... a little beyond. I've never seen anything like that. Pretty fantastic. Where'd you learn to do that?
- Sophia Simone: I, uh... I was raised by frogs.
- Jimmy Bly: Raised by frogs?
- Sophia Simone: Ribbit. Ribbit. Ribbit.
- [laughs]
- Jimmy Bly: Well, I'm glad you escaped.
- Sophia Simone: Thank you. Jimmy, what's on your mind?
- Jimmy Bly: How does Beau do it?
- Sophia Simone: Do what?
- Jimmy Bly: Stay on top. Get focused.
- Sophia Simone: He got scared.
- Jimmy Bly: No, I don't think so; that guy is ice.
- Sophia Simone: To you, he's ice. Inside, he's scared. But he likes it. He says it makes him try harder. Today he says the day he's not afraid is the day he'll stop. You know, you're just as scared. And the day you stop caring what other people think and make yourself happy will be even better.
- [resumes her swimming routine]
- Sophia Simone: Come on!
- Carl Henry: [checking a destroyed race car] The old Joe Tanto had a couple of attributes you should hold on to. Wasn't long ago you would've said: "There but for the grace of God, it's not me." Quietly taking your place in the pack. Where is that guy? Where has he gone?
- Joe Tanto: Who cares?
- Carl Henry: I do. I miss him. You're the first to know I'm terminating the kid's contract.
- Joe Tanto: [worried] Why?
- Carl Henry: I don't think he's the real deal. I don't think he's mentally tough enough. I don't think he's adult enough! Gets out of a car in a race.
- Joe Tanto: Saved a man's life.
- Carl Henry: [angry] I'm not here to debate! I'm gonna go for Brandenburg. Next year.
- Joe Tanto: What are you doing?
- Carl Henry: Whatever it takes to win.
- Joe Tanto: His brother know?
- Carl Henry: He's brokering the deal.
- Joe Tanto: Don't do this.
- Carl Henry: It's done!
- Joe Tanto: Then undo it.
- Carl Henry: [surprised] You suddenly care.
- Joe Tanto: Don't kill him off!
- Carl Henry: [furious] Don't kill him off? I watched you kill yourself! You had everything, and you threw it all away! And l had to sit there and watch! The slowest man in the fastest sport. I wake up every morning, my legs are on fire. I know I'm gonna have to sit in this chair for the rest of the day. But if they gave me one more chance, I'd do it all over again.
- Joe Tanto: [sad] It ain't gonna happen.
- Carl Henry: We are all damaged. I've got an excuse. You don't. Do you?
- Beau Brandenburg: [Exasperated, about Joe] Why do I even bother talking to this guy?
- Joe Tanto: Because I'm the only one who actually likes your arrogant ass.
- Beau Brandenburg: [Beat, then smiles] So that's it.
