Several of the location shoots throughout the entire series were shot in Cambridgeshire and involved not just the cast and real firefighters from the London fire brigade but also featured crews from Cambridge fire and rescue service too.
In the 14 series of the show (including the pilot TV movie) the uniform that is used on a shout has changed 4 times and the station uniform has changed once. The only uniform which has not changed since the pilot been the function uniform in that time. All 3 of the latest uniforms at the time were featured in series 13.
Ona McCracken appeared as a one-off guest character Det. Sgt. Crawford in an episode of series 2, before becoming a regular in series 4-9 as Recall's wife, Laura.
The show originated as a single television pilot film made in 1986 and written by acclaimed screenwriter Jack Rosenthal. However, the intended series was delayed for 18 months due to industrial action at London Weekend Television and did not premier on ITV until Autumn 1988. Rosenthal was not involved with the series but did receive an acknowledgement credit in every episode.
