ITV Studios has taken a majority stake in leading Spanish scripted production company Plano a Plano, founded by seasoned producer César Benítez.

One of the very few big Spanish TV companies not to have been acquired by foreign interests, Plano a Plano has produced series such as “Valeria,” based on the novels by Elisabet Benavent, ranked in Netflix’s Top 5 most-viewed international dramas globally; “El Príncipe,” a thriller series produced for Mediaset España sold to more than 60 territories, and “Servir y proteger,” a daily soap for Spanish public broadcaster Rtve.

Benítez, CEO Emilio Amaré and executive producer Álvaro Benítez will continue to lead the label, reporting to London-based Lisa Perrin, ITV Studios managing director, international production.

Launched in 2011, with headquarters in Madrid and Bilbao, Plano a Plano will sit alongside ITV Studios Iberia in Spain, the joint venture launched in 2023 by ITV Studios and scripted label Cattleya Producciones, both led by Nathalie García.

The production and sales arm of UK network ITV has paid an undisclosed amount for a majority stake in Spain’s Plano a Plano, known for the likes of Netflix’s Valeria, Mediaset’s El Principe and recently launches Disney+ series Suspicious Minds.

Plano a Plano is also behind the upcoming Netflix series All the Truth Behind My Lies (Toda la Verdad de Mis Mentiras), a miniseries based on the Elísabet Benavent novel, and is working on a debut feature film, La Tregua, for Spanish pubcaster Rtve and Netflix.

Company was founded in 2011 by César Benitez, who runs the business with CEO CEO Emilio Amaré and Executive Producer Álvaro Benítez. They will continue to run Plano a Plano out of Madrid and Bilbao, reporting to Itvs’s London-based Lisa Perrin, who is Managing Director, International Production.

ITV Studios has acquired a majority stake in Spanish scripted production company Plano a Plano. Founded in 2011 and run by owner and producer César Benítez, the company is known for the hit series Valeria, which is based on the novels by Elísabet Benavent and which has ranked in Netflix’s top five most-viewed international dramas globally.

The production outfit is also behind the likes of El Principe for Mediaset, which has sold to more than 60 international markets, and the daily telenovela Servir Y Proteger for Tve. And Plano a Plano’s new heist series Suspicious Minds recently premiered on Disney+.

The company said it is currently in production on two titles for Netflix, the upcoming adaptation All the Truth Behind My Lies (Toda la Verdad de Mis Mentiras), a new miniseries based on the novel by Elísabet Benavent, as well as the psychological thriller Innato in association with Dynamic Television.

Directed by French filmmaker Jacques Audiard, the genre-blending film delivers innovative music numbers and choreography infused with a gut-wrenching story about unfulfilled desire and regret. Emilia Prez is France's entry for Best International Feature at the upcoming 97th Academy Awards, which will be held on March 2, 2025. The film currently has a Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 82% and an audience score of 79%. Styled after addicting and aesthetically apt crime dramas “Mindhunter” and “True Detective,” author Ignacio del Valle and writer-director Rai García (“Al salir de clase”) are readying an upcoming series, “Black Suns” (“Soles Negros”), based on the fourth installment of del Valle’s historical suspense oeuvre published in 2016.

His novel “The Time of Strange Emperors” was adapted for the big screen in Gerardo Herrero’s 2012 film “Silence in the Snow.” It starred Feroz award-winning actor Juan Diego Botto (“I Don’t Like Driving”) and Goya winner Carmelo Gómez (“The Method”).
