  • Major Kuldeep Singh: [laughs madly]
  • Dharamvir: If you don't mind may I ask you something, sir?
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Tell me.
  • Dharamvir: Between bravery and madness there must be some difference or not?
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: What you call madness, comes from faith. And I have full faith that life and death is decided by God, and God is not with the enemy, but with me. Because I'm always immersed in Him.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: You don't win a war by getting martyred by the enemy, you win it by shooting them! YOU HAVE TO KILL THEM!
  • Captain Bhairav Singh: This soil is my mother.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Among our brothers, there is someone whose widowed mother cannot see with her eyes, and whose only son is lost in the dust of the desert. There is someone whose mother's ashes are waiting for his son to return victorious from the war and immerse them in the Ganga. Someone's old father is spending the last moments of his life and every day he postpones death by saying that "the one who will light my funeral pyre is sitting far away on the border." If all of them take leave giving the excuse of their problems, then how will this war be won?
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: [On the communicator after seeing Pakistani tanks approach Longewala] Air Force Station Jaisalmer, I want to talk to your CO. Over.
  • Wing Commander Anand Bajwa: Station Commander here. Who is it? Over.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Major Kuldeep Singh here, Sir, over.
  • Wing Commander Anand Bajwa: Yes Major, what's your message, over.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Wing Commander Sir, Pakistanis have besieged my post Longewala from all sides, and they can attack anytime. They have 40 tanks and thousands in infantry, and I have only 120 men. I need air support immediately Sir, over.
  • Wing Commander Anand Bajwa: Shit! I wish I could help you Major, but unfortunately air support cannot be provided tonight, over.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Why Sir, over.
  • Wing Commander Anand Bajwa: Here I have only Hunter fighter jets which cannot operate at night. I will be there with the first light of the morning, over.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: [In a disheartened tone] That's bad news Sir. How will we hold out till the morning, over.
  • Wing Commander Anand Bajwa: [Hitting the jet exhaust in helplessness] I cannot help you Major.
  • [In a calm but worried tone]
  • Wing Commander Anand Bajwa: It's not possible. You will have to hold the post. I'll be there with the first light of the morning. All the best, good luck. Over and out, Major.
  • [Hangs communicator]
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: [Talking to himself] There's a hell lot of time for morning to arrive.
  • Wing Commander Anand Bajwa: [Cursing his Hunter jets after being informed of the incoming attack on Longewala] I hate you I can't fight in the night! Can't fight in the night, bloody hell, can't fight in the night!
  • [Scene cuts to Pakistani tanks approaching Longewala closer]
  • Wing Commander Anand Bajwa: [Back at the airbase, Andy summons his pilots for briefing] Boys, briefing.
  • [Pilots assemble in the war room]
  • Wing Commander Anand Bajwa: Unfortunately, enemy tanks have surrounded Longewala post. Our boys at the BOP are under their grip. Our job, is to release their grip with the first light of the morning. All of you boys and myself will take off at the first light of the morning and head to Longewala all along the Ramgarh route. None of our tanks are there, so keep your eyes open. And if you see a tank, HIT IT and hit them hard. Any doubts?
  • [Pilots saying no]
  • Wing Commander Anand Bajwa: Fine. Let's get battle ready for the morning, and keep our fingers crossed. And pray for those 120 bravehearts, who are standing in the path of death.
  • Lt. Colonel: He is second lieutenant, Dharamvir, your second in command.
  • [Kuldeep and Dharamvir shake hands]
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Sir, you did not tell me that in between 120 men, there is a child too.
  • Lt. Colonel: [Confused]
  • Dharamvir: You are right sir. I am a child. My father was a kid too when he entered the army. But he was such a lovely child that in the '65 war God called him and made him sit on his lap.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Your father's name?
  • Dharamvir: Major Veer Bhan.
  • Lt. Colonel: Ok Kuldeep. Best of luck.
  • [Lt. Colonel and Kuldeep salute each other]
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Dharamvir, tell the company to mount.
  • Dharamvir: Sir!
  • [Dharamvir turns towards Mathura Das]
  • Dharamvir: Subedar-sir, get the company mounted.
  • Naib Subedar Mathura Das: COMPANY, MOUNT!
  • [Company mounts to the trucks]
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: I knew Major Veer Bhan very well. I can't call him a friend since he was my senior. But our relationship was no less than a friendship. How is your mother?
  • Dharamvir: She is fine. But she can't see.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Can't see?
  • Dharamvir: The light of her eyes flowed away with tears.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: [Consoles Dharmvir] I'm sorry son.
  • Captain Bhairav Singh: [Walking towards Dharamvir] What's the matter, lieutenant sir? You're not sleeping.
  • [Bhairav Singh sit beside Dharamvir]
  • Captain Bhairav Singh: Dharamvir, your father had become a martyr in 1965's war.
  • Dharamvir: After all he was in the army.
  • Captain Bhairav Singh: Do you really think that Indian army was responsible for your father's death?
  • Dharamvir: [after a brief pause] Yes.
  • Captain Bhairav Singh: Then why did you join the army?
  • Dharamvir: Giving me the oath of his love. My father had told me to join the army only.
  • Captain Bhairav Singh: Why did he do this? Because the love of the country was the greatest love for him.
  • Dharamvir: And in the obsession of that love he tied his son in the chain of this uniform. He gave me a gun and told me to kill the soldier before me. Soldiers who like me, is some mother's son. I've never seen him in my life. He has never wronged me. Whose name also I don't know. After all, why? For what?
  • Captain Bhairav Singh: Because, if you don't kill him, then he'll kill you. He'll cross your body and step on your motherland. And your free motherland will again be tied in the chains of slavery. We don't even glance at other's land. But we're not so worthless that somebody glances at our motherland, and we just keep quiet. No, sir. No. Never.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: [Suddenly from behind] Be alert! Keep your eyes on the enemy. Don't even blink your eyes.
  • Subedar Rattan Singh: [Salutes] Subedar Ratan Singh reporting on duty sir.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: At ease Ratan Singh. Anti-tank guns. Just 2 RCL guns? Do they think that the enemy has just 2-4 tanks?
  • Subedar Rattan Singh: Why just 2, sir? Let them have even 2-4 hundred. When Ratan Singh is here, you don't need to worry.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Ratan Singh, you won't stop your hands and legs.
  • Subedar Rattan Singh: Why not, sir? If the need arises then, I'll put my head on the tank to silence it, sir.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Ratan Singh has not changed. Like always, you must be hungry.
  • Subedar Rattan Singh: I'm starving. I can even make a tandoori chicken of the enemy's tank and eat it.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: [laughs] Go. Bhagiram is waiting.
  • Subedar Rattan Singh: Bhagiram?
  • [Ratan Singh salutes]
  • Captain Bhairav Singh: Love and madness have a very old relation. It seems that Major sir loves his country as much as I love the soil of this desert.
  • Dharamvir: Then someday he will get a Vir Chakra. My father got it too. He too was a victim of this madness. He left behind for me a Vir Chakra and a blind mother.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: If it's only me then what am I? If it's only you then what are you?
  • Wing Commander Anand Bajwa: The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war.
  • Captain Bhairav Singh: Playing with toys, turns children into youth.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: From today on, every bullet of yours there will be name of the enemy of the nation.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: They say that they'll have breakfast in Jaisalmer, today we'll have a breakfast of them. Guru Maharaj has said that one Khalsa is equal to one and a quarter lakh. Today is the time to prove his words true.
  • BSF soldier: Army have come to the Longewala post. They're calling you, sir.
  • Captain Bhairav Singh: [waking up] Really? I was having a great sleep.
  • BSF soldier: How do you sleep so comfortably on this sand all night long, sir?
  • Captain Bhairav Singh: This earth is just not called mother. There is a lot of coolness in its heart. When it sees that the child is going to sleep, it covers him with a sheet of sand.
  • Sujatha Devi: [hugging Dharamvir] What is there in my feet? Instead give me a hug. If my heart becomes cold, then every part of me will bless you.
  • Subedar Rattan Singh: A gun in your hand?
  • Bhagiram (Cook): If a soldier will not have a gun in his hand then what else will he have?
  • Subedar Rattan Singh: But I have always seen a spoon in this soldier's hand.
  • Bhagiram (Cook): Hey! It is the greatness of that spoon only that you have eaten so much food and become so strong.
  • Bhagiram (Cook): The food makes the army, the army doesn't make the food. It is accepted all over the world that no army can survive without food.
  • Yamora Kaur Chandpuri: What if something happens to you in the war?
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Come on! Nothing will happen to me. Dipu and your love will not allow me to die. I'll come back in one piece. This is my promise.
  • Muslim villager: You have saved my Quran and brought it out, sir. But... But you are a Hindu, sir?
  • Captain Bhairav Singh: I am a Hindu. That is why I have done this good deed. By forgetting about oneself, one must take care of others, this is what the Hindu religion preaches. A Hindu has been doing this only since so many years.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Who in the world doesn't have problems? The other name of life is... problem.
  • Captain Bhairav Singh: What if we don't go back?
  • Dharamvir: Have faith. We'll surely return. We will definitely go back, otherwise what answer will God give to Phool Kanwar's vermillion and Kamla's youth?
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: [after the company falls in] Tonight is a test of our resolve. Coz the Indian Air Force cannot arrive before tomorrow morning, which leaves us with too much wait time.
  • [Cautioning]
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Men, the enemy is right at our gates. We're 120, they've an entire tank regiment advancing. The command HQ has given us option to fall back and retreat. But they've left the final decision at my disposal. So hear it out, I, Major Kuldeep Singh, am NOT gonna leave my post. Your decision is yours. Whosoever wants to leave this post, is free to do so.
  • Captain Bhairav Singh: Sir, I'd like to make my case first and foremost. Whether anybody stays or not, I am not leaving my motherland at the mercy of my enemy. It may cost me my life, but it can't force me to fall back.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: Bhairav Singh, you've spoken of giving your life to your country today, DONT ever again. Coz the testament of time is witness to the fact that nobody ever won a war by dying for his country, he won it by making the enemy die for its country.
  • Naib Subedar Mathura Das: Even though my leave was sanctioned, I didn't return home Sir. I returned from halfway to fight the enemy alongside my company. Only to be told that command has ordered me to fall back ? I'd rather be executed than obey these orders.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: I understand your emotions Mathura Das. But command must've arrived at this conclusion after deep thinking for sure. We're 120, they're 2000.
  • Subedar Rattan Singh: What difference does it make Sir. Guru Gobind Singhji Maharaj has always taught us that if the sparrow can face/off with the hawk, we're humans afterall.
  • [Resonating the call of the men behind him]
  • Subedar Rattan Singh: NOBODY is going anywhere.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: So should I take it that you shall all fight the enemy with me ?
  • Captain Bhairav Singh, Naib Subedar Mathura Das, Subedar Rattan Singh: [alongside all the men] Yes Sir.
  • Major Kuldeep Singh: If after this decision any man tries to leave the post, I'll shoot him. And God forbid, if I crumble and try running from this post, it's the order of your commanding officer you all will shoot me.
  • Subedar Rattan Singh: [Roaring] Bole So Nihaal !
  • Major Kuldeep Singh, Captain Bhairav Singh, Naib Subedar Mathura Das, Subedar Rattan Singh: [Roaring alongwith all the men as Pakistani tanks continue advancing] Sat Sri Akaal ! Soldier Of Waheguru, Victory Of Waheguru !
  • Subedar Rattan Singh: [In a charged up tone] Men, man your guns !
  • [All soldiers proceed into the trench, load their guns and position their aim at the Pakistani forces]
