Continuity

During the New Years Eve scene, Todd Parker can be clearly seen walking directly in front of the couple having a discussion at the table, holding a beer and without his jacket, socializing like he's been there awhile. Later, Todd enters the scene and recognizes Reed and they start talking and it's obvious that he had just arrived, wearing a different shirt and a jacket.
When Maggie asks Eddie if he's all right before his first shoot, she puts her hand on his face in the close up, and then takes her hand away. In the next shot, she begins to pull her hand away again.
Before entering Rahad's house, Todd places a large handgun in his front waistband. It is clearly visible later as he first approaches Rahad to give him a hug. The gun disappears until he finally brandishes it.

Factual errors

At the attempted robbery at Rahad's house, Dirk opens the driver's side door to the Corvette and tries to get in. Rahad shoots the driver's side window out with Dirk right behind it. There is no way Dirk would not have been hit by shotgun pellets, but yet he rolls away unharmed.
The 1977 Corvette is described as being a car with a 350 cubic inch engine producing 325 hp, a 4.10:1 rear end gearing, having a 4 speed manual and an aftermarket intake manifold. This is not true. As this is a California car, it had the de-tuned L82 California emissions engine. This engine produced a mere 165 hp and is actually the least powerful factory V8 engine put in a Corvette. Even with a good aftermarket intake, it would not be close to 325 hp. It would need new cylinder heads, a new camshaft and a new carburetor to make even close to 325 hp.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

When Little Bill complains to Kurt about his wife having sex with other men, he says, "My fucking wife has an ass in her cock in the driveway, Kurt." Little Bill was supposed to say "My fucking wife has a cock in her ass in the driveway, Kurt", but the director loved the way the incorrect line showed how angry and flustered Bill was, and left the scene intact.
At least once at Rahad's house, Cosmo tosses a firecracker that results in an explosion with no sound. It's actually a dud, and it fizzes.

Revealing mistakes

During the scene in which Floyd Gondolli attempts to convince Jack Horner about the future of videotape, Robert Ridgely (who plays the Colonel) can clearly be seen breaking character and trying to control his laughter in the background of Floyd's closeup. It's especially apparent when Floyd talks about having "butter up my ass".

Anachronisms

In 1977, when Eddie, Reed, and Scotty buy outfits in a clothing store, the bay window behind Scotty shows 1990s minivans and SUVs driving by.
In a scene from 1983, a can of Coca-Cola says "Coca-Cola Classic". The "Classic" wasn't added until 1985, after the New Coke backlash.
A late 1970s scene shows a poster of Madonna, who was not publicly known until the mid 1980s.
When Dirk and the others go to rob the drug dealer, a 1990s Neighborhood Watch sign is visible on a pole across from the front door.
When Amber and her ex-husband met with a judge about custody in September of 1983, portraits of President Ronald Reagan and Governor Jerry Brown are on the wall. Brown was governor from January 1975 to January 1983; George Deukmejian had been governor for several months by September 1983.

Crew or equipment visible

When Scotty cries in his Datsun, the shadow of first camera assistant Michael G. Riba falls on the car's side mirror.
When Dirk is recording vocals in the studio, the shadow of the boom mic is visible on the wall behind him when the camera pans to the left.
When the stereo store customer exits the scene, he takes an unusually large step forward because he is stepping over the dolly track.
During the pool party scene, the underwater swimming girl gets up. The camera pans as she passes, and the dark reflection of the cameraman holding the underwater camera is visible in the sliding glass door.

Character error

When Rahad is explaining that he likes to make mix tapes, he asks Cosmo which one they're listening to right now. They both agree that it's #11. The tape runs out, and when the camera shows a closeup of the tape auto-reversing, it's clearly labeled #6.
At the New Year's Eve party, Todd tells Reed that he made the party because he doesn't work on Sundays. New Year's Eve 1979 fell on a Monday.
When Buck is explaining to the customer in the stereo store the benefits of the TK-421 modification for an 8-track player, and how they would improve sound quality and performance, he mentions the result will "kick it up by another 3 or 4 quads per channel".

What he meant to say was "watts per channel" which makes more sense to serious audio buffs. It could be a case of him not knowing enough about the product he's selling, or that he simply used the wrong terminology by mistake.
