Oppenheimer.Much of the praise for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has highlighted the strength of its ensemble cast. Cillian Murphy has garnered considerable acclaim for his cold and haunted performance as the eponymous father of the atomic bomb, and so has Robert Downey Jr. as his vindictive foil, Admiral Lewis Strauss. Less has been said about Matt Damon’s supporting portrayal of one of the most pivotal figures in the J. Robert Oppenheimer story: Major General Leslie Groves, the American military man who oversaw the Manhattan Project, and hired Oppenheimer. Gruff, difficult to please, exacting in his military objectives, and occasionally comic, Damon plays him with the understated, reliably solid craft that’s defined his career. Angelo Bruschini, the English guitarist best known for his work with Bristol trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack, has died after a battle with lung cancer.

Massive Attack confirmed Bruschini’s death on social media, writing, “Rip Angelo. A singularly brilliant & eccentric talent. Impossible to quantify your contribution to the Massive Attack canon. How lucky we were to share such a life together.”

It’s a shame that after such an exciting run of episodes, Sons of Anarchy’s otherwise excellent fourth season came to a close with a whimper rather than a bang – with an underwhelming finale which failed to tie-up many of the plotlines and character arcs satisfyingly.

Maybe it was inevitable that the finale couldn’t possibly have satisfied everyone – especially with so many crucial storylines – but the episode felt oddly anti-climatic, even failing to match the drama and suspense of the penultimate episode. The season has been building numerous threats to Samcro, only for the final episode to crumble under pressure and shy away, seemingly through fear of damaging the likelihood of future seasons.

Nonetheless, even as a lackluster season finale, To Be (Act Two) was a decent episode with several stand-out moments which prevented the final show from being an outright disappointment. Best of...
