Marked For Death offers a very proficient range of bang-and-break antics ending with a neat twist.

The film does manage to provide some fresh thematic punches (and gobs of female nudity for the teen male demographic), and it's clear why Seagal was a popular action star. If only the film was a little flashier, a little edgier and a little more original. Still, it's one of Steven Seagal's finest, if that's saying anything.

Those bothered by crunching violence and plot lapses won't find much here to enjoy, but action fans will find it delivers just about all they want from a film.

As directed by Dwight H. Little, Marked for Death lacks much visual interest or suspense.

Between the gang's patois and Seagal's soft speaking, Marked for Death almost begs for subtitles; the breaking of bones, however, comes through loud and clear.

This dim-witted revenge yarn is the simplest of showcases for Steven Seagal - an extremely compelling action presence with his brutal martial arts fighting style, imposing size and nasty demeanor.
