When Salman Khan is asked whether he has seen the movie Sholay (1975), he says "Haan, dus baar (yes, ten times)", Amir Khan jokingly says "Iske baap ne likhi hai" (his father has written it). This is true. Salman Khan's father Salim Khan was one of the co-writers of the 1975 block buster "Sholay".
The movie performed poorly at the box office upon its release, but has since gathered a cult following.
This movie was first of its kind of comedy in Bollywood where humour is generated using movie references, cult references and also use of real names.
Actor 'Shehzad' paid a unique tribute to his father Ajit Khan, a legendary villain, by adopting his mannerisms and voice for the negative character played in this movie.
Although the film had big stars like Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor, none of the stars were really on talking terms. Raveena Tandon recently tweeted, "..really wonder how the film got made. no one was talking to any one But still we all had fun doing each scene and so difficult to control our own laughter during takes..great memories." Further adding, "Unknown facts about Andaz Apna Apna! Aamir played maximum pranks, Salman did awesome scenes also gave many gaalis, Lolo n I sulked! Raj was hilarious and also in love, producer broke." (sic) Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar did the mahurat of the film.
