While the game had its share of shortcomings, the same can’t be said about the voice acting performances. Each cast member brought their best to the table and sent the gaming community into the streets of Gotham as they fight Batman’s rogues gallery. One of those villains in Oswald Cobblepot, better known as the Penguin.

Greg Cannom, a makeup and prosthetics artist whose Oscar-winning work can be seen in “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” “Vice” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” has died. He was 73.

Frequent collaborator, Rick Baker, confirmed Cannom’s death in an Instagram post on Friday. Together, the pair worked on films like “Cocoon,” “The Howling, ” “The Fury” and the music video for Michael Jackson’s 1983 hit “Thriller.”

“I just heard the sad news of the passing of one of the great makeup artists. Greg Cannom,” he wrote. “Greg started with me in the 70s, his first job with me was the sequel to ‘It’s Alive’ where he not only assisted me in making the baby but also played one of the baby monsters. When I moved out of my first garage workshop, Greg moved in. When I outgrew my first industrial unit, Greg took that over. His work will be remembered long after his passing.

The Arrowverse was a monumental achievement for DC TV. Everything started with Stephen Amell's Arrow in 2012, as Greg Berlanti kick-started a new universe of DC shows on The CW. The Arrowverse expanded with Grant Gustin's The Flash joining the schedule, as well as Melissa Benoist's Supergirl on CBS. This was the point where things started to become clear about the Arrowverse's intentions to become the biggest cinematic universe on television.

In Absolute Power: Task Force VII #6 by Stephanie Williams, Khary Randolph, Alex Guimares, and Dave Sharpe, one of Amanda Waller's Amazo robots invades Themiscyra as retribution for the island nation harboring superheroes. When Paradise Lost begins draining the Well of Souls, it identifies the spirits of specific fallen heroes, many of whom possess links to pre-Crisis continuities.

One name in particular stands out from the rest: that of Lyta Trevor, with the superheroine code name "Fury" - also known as the long-forgotten daughter of Earth-2's Wonder Woman.

Nightwing and Daredevil share a love for the law, with both tackling crime at night and upholding justice in the courtroom. Nightwing, while not a full lawyer, has a law degree and experience working within the legal system, much like Daredevil. The shared interests between Nightwing and Daredevil could provide a strong foundation for an interesting and engaging crossover event.

Marvel and DC have crossed over a few times, but despite fan demand, readers have yet to see Daredevil and Nightwing share any on-panel interactions. This lack is a shame, considering both characters have a ton in common like how they're both lawyers.

The version of Nightwing that most people know never became a full lawyer though his law degree is mentioned in Nightwing #80 by Tom Taylor, Bruno Redondo, Adriano Lucas, and Wes Abbott but the original Dick Grayson, who's actually from Earth-2, did eventually take on the role of a defense attorney.

The Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths movie trilogy concludes the Tomorrowverse by creating a new continuity for future stories. The Huntress' comic book history is controversial due to her death in 1985's Crisis on Infinite Earths, and the reboots and retcons that followed. The Crisis movie trilogy avoids the comics' mistakes with The Huntress by not complicating her history and by emphasizing her importance to Batman's emotional growth.

The Arrowverse introduced many great DC characters throughout its run. Some of these heroes and villains have great, expansive histories with endless issues and appearances in DC Comics. However, the Arrowverse always prided itself on building lesser-known or original characters who eventually became fan favorites, think; Alex Danvers, Harrison Wells or Cat Grant.

With DC Comics' long history, there were always bound to be heroes or villains that were excluded from the Arrowverse. Some characters like Darkseid weren't expected to appear, given that he was always meant to be the Dceu's main villain, like Thanos is to the MCU. They normally found a way to include nearly everyone they wanted, but in some cases, great DC characters were ignored that would've been a great match for the Arrowverse.

As the third act in a trilogy of animated films based on the beloved DC comic series Crisis on Infinite Earths, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part Three had big shoes to fill. It was tasked with wrapping up storylines from the iconic 1985–1986 miniseries as well as over a decade of DC animated movies.

An epic tale spanning countless worlds, the comic’s plot saw the Anti-Monitor threaten to wipe out the entire multiverse. Now it is up to the animated sequel to pull everything together in a climactic and satisfying conclusion.

Part Three picks up where the previous film left off, with our heroes scrambling after Supergirl is manipulated into killing the powerful Monitor. Stranded outside of the normal space-time continuum in a dimension called the Bleed, they watch helplessly as the Anti-Monitor’s devastating antimatter waves begin consuming reality.

Their only hope is splicing together a plan utilizing survivors from different worlds.

In 2006's Infinite Crisis, the Superman of Earth-2 declared Nightwing the only person who is a better hero in DC's main reality than in his own ideal world. In the two decades since, Nightwing has gone from strength to strength, ultimately saving the entire multiverse. Batman aimed to help Nightwing become a better man than the Dark Knight himself, and he succeeded.

True to its name, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League follows Task Force X on their mission to take down the typical heroes of DC stories, who have been brainwashed by the supervillain Brainiac. Of course, this isn't an easy task for a band of dysfunctional miscreants to accomplish, especially when it comes to taking down the nearly invulnerable Man of Steel himself.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Two introduces the multiversal Batfamily, including Terry McGinnis, Barbara Gordon, and the Earth-2 Helena Wayne. Terry McGinnis adds a fresh and rebellious voice to Bruce Wayne's roster, allowing for friction and interesting dynamics within the team. The inclusion of The Huntress in Crisis Part Two could address Bruce Wayne's concerns over training young heroes and explore the repercussions of his decisions as a mentor.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman made a killer splash with audiences and critics. Shortly after the film’s release, Warner Bros. revealed it had no less than three HBO Max spin-off series in development. The most notable one focuses on Colin Farrell's Penguin character. Additionally, a Gotham Pd spin-off was ordered but was ultimately shelved; it is shifting now to Arkham Asylum. This new direction has an opportunity to expand Batman’s rogues' gallery for the Reeves universe in a fun, creative way.

DC Studios co-chair and co-ceo James Gunn recently confirmed that the upcoming animated adaptation of Crisis on Infinite Earths will not have anything to do with the transition of the DC Extended Universe into the DC Universe.

Responding to a fan on Threads who asked if the Crisis on Infinite Earths animated trilogy would have anything to do with the start of the Dcu, Gunn revealed that "They do not." Announced at the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con alongside an animated adaptation of Watchmen, the forthcoming animated project will be based on the 1980s 12-issue limited comic book series that dealt with the DC Multiverse being destroyed by the Anti-Monitor. After the remaining heroes and villains team up, they are able to stop the Anti-Monitor and create a single Earth.

DC Comics may be integrating Milestone characters into the main DC canon, as hinted in Titans: Beast World - Waller Rising #1. Milestone favorites like Static and Icon are included in a new team that features iconic Black heroes from across the DC multiverse. This teaser suggests the melding of the Milestone universe with DC's Prime Earth, indicating an imminent merging of two worlds.

DC Comics may be preparing to bring the Milestone universe back into the main DC canon. Milestone Media was first founded in 1993 as a subsidiary of DC Comics, promoting Black superheroes through Black creators. Sunn O))) have announced a new 7-inch single and digital release, “Evil Chuck / Ron G Warrior,” as part of Sub Pop Singles Club Vol. 8.

The digital release of the two songs is set for October 25th, with club subscribers receiving the physical 7-inch vinyl copy of the single soon after.

DC Comics will recontextualize the earliest adventures of Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern, just in time for the character's upcoming series. Scott made his debut in 1940. In the time since, he has been re-envisioned for modern times, coming out as a gay man: first as a part of Earth 2 for DC's New 52 in 2011, then coming out in official DC canon as of Infinite Frontier.

With the recent craze for multiversal storytelling, now is a great time to look back to the parallel universe stories from comics that paved the way. From groundbreaking stories of the 1960s like “Flash of Two Worlds!” to modern epics such as Jonathan Hickman’s work on New Avengers, this classic science fiction element forces characters into introspection through an external foil.

The parallel universe provides a narrative way to create a foil for the characters and the world of the hero, upping the stakes from a simple antagonizing external conflict to one that forces the protagonist to ask moral or philosophical questions. The stories below attempt to draw a through line of how each story builds upon the last within a genre convention across the past 60+ years.

Oscar-winning Polish cinematographer Janusz Kamiński, best known for his decades-long collaboration with Steven Spielberg, and Stephen Lighthill, who shot the Oscar-nominated doc Berkeley, will be the two special award recipients at this year’s Annual Emerging Cinematographer Awards (Eca).

Kamiński will be honored with the Distinguished Filmmaker Award and Lighthill will accept the ASC Mentor Award.

Kamiński — who has picked up four Academy Award nominations, five BAFTA Awards, and six American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Award nominations across his career — began working with Spielberg in 1993 on Schindler’s List. Since then, the pair have worked together on everything from Saving Private Ryan and Jurassic Park to The Fabelmans. Kamiński has won the best cinematography Oscar twice, with Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan.

Lighthill — who previously served as ASC president — began his career shooting network news and documentaries, including the Oscar-nominated documentary Berkeley, Gimme Shelter, and CBS 60 Minutes.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has brought the concept of the multiverse to new fans and has done so by exploring the many alternate worlds that these characters inhabit. As a result, fans have been able to see three Spider-Men team up in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Peggy Carter don a shield as Captain Carter in What If...? While it would be easy to consider the MCU as a pioneer of alternate realities, it was far from the first as even its best examples have nothing on the many different versions of Earth that have permeated the DC Universe.

DC Comics have had many different ideas teased and explored through the lens of various Earths. Similar to the multiverse, these worlds had different characters that weren't just loose versions of Earth-1, which features the more famous DC heroes. For example, Earth-2 was the home of the Silver Age DC characters...

DC Comics is no stranger to alternate universes. Its history is nothing if not a slow gradual process of bringing its various superheroes into a single narrative, resulting in multiple realities and periodic Crises to straighten things out. All this without taking its formal Elseworlds line into account, nor the various TV and movie adaptations of their deep well of characters. The cinematic DC Universe is just the latest incarnation of a very old tradition.

That gives Matt Reeves' The Batman an easy out when it comes to the mega-franchise's upcoming slate of movies. The directors' bold reimagining of The Caped Crusader's oft-told origins struck a chord with comics fans and looks ready to support its own universe distinct from James Gunn's Superman: Legacy and its ilk. Judging purely from the downward quality graph of its last few seasons and even the major portion of the final one, it feels like CW’s The Flash should have wrapped things up years ago. Even the most sincere fans of the series will acknowledge that poor writing and being overcrowded by unnecessary characters have absolutely destroyed any sort of significance the series ever had. It makes the realization all the more painful that the impeccable first two seasons of the series were trendsetting in superhero adaptations because they wore qualities like novelty, optimism, and hope on their sleeve. With the series finale releasing, the realization will dawn heavily on the fans who have invested themselves in the series for nine long years, as with the conclusion of the series, the last vestiges of the Arrowverse, the TV universe it was a part of, are gone in a flash too.

The final season of The Flash on The CW wrapped up the story for the show's characters and the entire Arrowverse. This means that the entire final season was a bevy of guest appearances and cameos. Plenty of returning champs came back for the series finale, including villains and allies of Team Flash. After nine years and more than 100 episodes, it can be difficult to remember just who everyone is.

One of the most important returning characters was Rick Cosnett's Eddie Thawne, who came back for the final four episodes. Along with Iris's ex-fiancé, her daughter from the future Nora West-Allen, played by Jessica Parker Kennedy, is another holdover from the penultimate episode of The Flash. However, several other characters returned, many of them former Big Bad villains from past seasons.

After ignoring the Jesse Quick mystery for three years, The Flash is finally hinting at her post-Crisis fate. Earth-Prime was restored after the Crisis, but not everyone in the Arrowverse had a place in the new world Oliver Queen built.
