Naufrágio no Pacífico

Despite the incredible book written by the father in the boat providing details and the experience suffered by the survivors weirdly the writers came up with a nice version with groomed hair and pressed clothes almost to the end. In reality they were in rags, sunburned, blistered, close to starvation, dehydrated and covered in boils. The mother administered rectal rehydration using the unpalatable water. It was also geographically incorrect. The well known doldrums play a huge part in the survival. The father was Scottish and mother English. The story is ripe for a film director to make a version reflecting the real story.

I recorded this movie when it originally aired on abc and have watched it over and over again, this movie is robert urich at his best, i really love this movie and have to say its in my top 10 of the best telemovies ever made, now i would watch anything robert urich has been in, urich has always impressed me as an actor since id seen him as dan tanna in the TV drama VEGA$, but this movie shows the human spirit at its best, and I don't think I'm the only person who cried when they finally were rescued, unfortunately though its in my top 10 of the best it must not be in everyone else's top 10 otherwise it would be available on DVD/VHS which it is not, i do have it on VHS and although its a good copy its not in stereo as it was not recorded on a stereo vcr, i have looked for it on TV since its original airing and have not seen it, id love to see it come out on DVD. Robert Urich we will miss you.

In this film we find a family man (Robert Urich) taking his family on a yachting vacation until things go sour and the boat sinks. The family is now on a raft trying to survive the best they can.

This is one of the better made-for-TV disaster films to come out of the early 90s and really did a good job at not going all out on drama or all out on special effects (that usual ruin good films). If you find it, watch it.

I like the fact that before the movie begins, the disclaimer states it is just "based" on a real story.

Based on a real story of a family and a young inexperienced mate (think Gilligan on a realistic scale) who lose their ship in the sea. The middle of the ocean, of course, and exist on two small rafts for a long time.

What makes this movie a "real" movie is the "real" people. They make mistakes, sure, but not the insane evil ones that Hollywood usually forces down our throats. They don't turn to cannibals on day three, and they don't play survival "games". They do real survival.

Do they all make it out? They certainly try, and they try to help each other out. There is a camaraderie that is long lost in Hollywood and in America's morality. We need more movies like this to bring that good spirit back.

Trying to find a copy of this wonderful movie. If any one has information on how to locate a copy of the film please advise. This movie of survival and moral courage is the best I've ever seen to witness the stress of the moment the sail boat is sinking and to think to grab food water and safety for those around. The feeling and shortage of food, mistakes and lessons learned total commitment to survival and attention to detail not a moment of boredom great film. the reorganized efforts of all to the cause of survival commitment to maintaining the raft and small boat. I want to see this movie again

This film and the cast make you feel the urgency of the moment and you can in a minds eye understand the vastness of the position they are in.Robert Urich was the only choice for this film his ability and actions keep you on the edge of your seat
