Frank Parrish comes to New Orleans to see his Father's restaurant, the Chez Louisianne (the Chez). Frank meets the staff of the restaurant and some of the loyal customers.

Frank goes back to Boston, but it seems the city doesn't want him (is this due to a spin put on him?), so he goes back to New Orleans to stay.

Frank is the new owner of the Chez, but with no experience in running a restaurant, he feels like a fifth wheel. He also finds out that he owes on a loan that he borrowed from Bertha Griffin-Lamour.

When a rival restaurant tries to steal the Chez's food to tap the secret of Big Arthur's recipes, an illegal boxing match is set up for the rival chefs. The winner admits in public who is the better cook.

It's Christmas at the Chez. Frank is invited to Shabbat at the Weissberger's, and he also gets to meet Ennis' brother, Ray. Arthur plays Santa Claus for the local children, with Shorty as his helper.
