But, if you look at this film the other way around, the 1986 "update" is interestingly strange and hilarious enough to deserve a good viewing. Although parents may get peeved over its occasionally crude content to show to their children, I reckon they'll still giggle over it anyway! Who cares if it isn't Disney? Of the thousands of Aladdins in the world today, this one is the most unusual version around.
I saw this yesterday on TV. It's not your usual "Alladdin", but more of a Bud Spencer (sans Terence Hill) flick really. It plays like a B movie, with some awkward acting, specially from the villains. There's even some really politically incorrect stuff for the kids.
Bud is as cool as ever, the boy is okay, and that drunk grandpa manages to be annoying and funny at the same time. I had fun watching this, but then again I really like Bud and Terence stuff.
You can expect a lot of staged fights, clumsy acting, weird stuff going on and lots of continuity/logic errors. But who cares?
I give this a 7 out of 10 on a good day.

There is only one way to get through this "Aladdin": you must have a high tolerance for corniness. One minute the Genie says that he doesn't know what these "boxes" (meaning the cars) are, the next he delivers exactly the kind of car that the kid (his "master") wants. There isn't really a story, it's just a series of unrelated episodes. And the "culture shock" factor (the Genie wakes up 200 years after his time) goes almost completely unexplored. But the movie has an essential good-heartedness that makes it likable. It's also nice to hear Bud Spencer's original voice for a change, Italian accent and all. (**1/2)
I had actually never heard about this 1986 movie as I stumbled upon it in 2022 by random chance. But seeing that it was a Bud Spencer movie, of course I had to sit down and watch it, no doubt about it.
Writers Dardano Sacchetti, Elisa Briganti, Mario Amendola, Bruno Corbucci and Marcello Fondato manged to put together an enjoyable enough movie. This wasn't exactly an outstanding movie experience, but it was watchable. The storyline was pretty straight forward, although a bit too simplistic in its entirety. But I am sure that fans of Bud Spencer is bound to enjoy this 1986 comedy adventure more than I did.
The acting performances in "Superfantagenio" (aka "Aladdin") were as you'd expect from a Bud Spencer movie. So if you enjoy his movies, than you will find yourself in for a good time. I will say that the acting performances in "Superfantagenio" were definitely good enough for my liking.
Ultimately then director Bruno Corbucci's 1986 movie was watchable, but not an outstanding or memorable movie experience. So I hadn't exactly been missing out on a cinematic gem here. It was, for me at least, a very generic Bud Spencer movie.
My rating of "Superfantagenio" lands on a five out of ten stars.

I don't get how this movie has such a high rating... it's AWFUL! The film quality is HORRIFIC, the cinematography is ABYSMAL, the plot is RIDICULOUS, and the ACTING? Ugh... There are no words... By the time I was maybe 10 minutes in, they'd already broken almost EVERY Djin rule out there! You get 3 wishes - broken - etc... This movie also included swearing, which for a "family movie" which is what I assume this is, Aladdin movies usually are, I don't think is very appropriate! I recommend avoiding!

- CuriosidadesBud Spencer's real voice is used throughout the entire film in the English-language version.
- Versões alternativasGerman VHS (by United Video) and first DVD release (by MCP) were cut by ca. 20 seconds (probably due to issues with the used transfer). Re-release by KSM uses a different transfer and is uncut.
