A low budget studio production of Jeffrey Archer's book "first among equals". Takes place in Britain in the mid 1960s and you could be forgiven for thinking it was actually filmed back then, rather than 20 years later. After all the political shenanigans and backstabbing en route, a rather poignant ending. Worth a watch if you can find it.

A great drama from Granada, the story of 4 MP's from the late seventies into the 80's and their careers as they strive to become 'first among equals'.

It's well shot, with some excellent acting, especially from Tom Wilkinson and James Faulkner with the ever dependable Jeremy Child and David Robb completing the quartet.

The music by Richard Harvey is a banger and it's an engrossing TV series for those of us who like their political dramas with a little reality and dollops of good old fashioned plot.

I've read the book (the UK one and the one adapted for American readers) and this mini-series is quite a worthy adaptation. It's hard to believe I saw it all those years ago, and it's a fascinating look into British politics without the gratuitious swearing of The Thick of It.
