Michael Myers (Don Shanks) awakens from a one-year coma on Halloween 1989 and decides to again go after his eight-year-old niece Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris), now aphasic (mute) and convalescing under the care of Doctor Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence) in Haddonfield's Children's Hospital. Michael and Jamie now share a telepathic link to each other, so Michael's plan is to lure her out of the hospital by murdering her adopted sister Rachel Carruthers (Ellie Cornell) and going after her friend Tina Williams (Wendy Foxworth). With the help of Dr Loomis, Jamie agrees to meet Michael at the abandoned Myers house with the intent of ending his killing spree for once and for all.
Halloween 5 is the fourth movie in the Halloween storyline, following Halloween - A Noite do Terror (1978) (1978), Halloween II: O Pesadelo Continua! (1981) (1981), and Halloween 4: O Retorno de Michael Myers (1988) (1988) and followed by Halloween 6: A Última Vingança (1995) (1995), (1998), and Halloween: Ressurreição (2002) (2002). (Note that Halloween III: A Noite das Bruxas (1982) (1982) is not a part of the series.) Although it continues with characters created by John Carpenter and Debra Hill for the first two movies, the screenplay was written by Michael Jacobs, Dominique Othenin-Girard, and Shem Bitterman.
As Rachel talks with the police, Jamie wanders over to Michael's lifeless body. She takes his hand in hers but drops it when Rachel and Sheriff Meeker (Beau Starr) yell to her not to touch him. As Jamie begins to walk away from his body, Michael suddenly clutches his knife and begins to stand up. The police open fire on him, their shots sending him reeling backwards until he falls into an old mine shaft which collapses on top of him. Meeker takes Jamie and Rachel home where they are joined by Dr Loomis, who assures them that it's over and that Michael is in hell where he belongs. While Rachel rests on the couch, Darlene (Karen Alston) takes Jamie upstairs and begins to run bath water. She lays out some towels and bends over to test the water as someone looks at her through the eyes of a mask. The masked eyes move down the corridor, causing Darlene to look up and scream. Loomis hears the screams and rushes up the stairs to find Jamie standing at the top in her mask and clown suit, a pair of bloody scissors in her right hand. Loomis screams, "No! No!", several times and raises his gun, but Meeker stops him from shooting. In the final scene, Loomis, Meeker, Rachel, and her dad (Jeff Olson) stare in horror as Jamie raises the scissors.
Two explanations have been offered. The most obvious one is that Jamie was suffering from "hysterical mutism" brought about by the horrors she experienced in Halloween 4. A second explanation is that touching Michael's body at the end of Halloween 4 resulted in a telepathic tie between the two and, because Michael is mute, so is Jamie ...at least until she can break the connection enough to regain her ability to speak.
In the first movie, the year is 1963 and Michael is six when he kills his sister. When Michael returns to Haddonfield, 15 years have passed, so Michael is 21 in Halloween. Halloween 2 occurs the same night as Halloween, so Michael would still be 21. Halloween 4 occurs 10 years later, so Michael would be 31, and Halloween 5 occurs one year after Halloween 4, so Michael would now be 32.
"Romeo Romeo" performed by Rebecca Vizcarra.
His identity is not revealed until Halloween 6, but some of the guesses that viewers made after seeing Halloween 5 is that he is (1) a manifestation of Michael's own rage, (2) Death in human form, (3) Michael's twin brother, and (4) Conal Cochran, founder of Silver Shamrock (in Halloween III).
Its meaning is revealed in Halloween 6, where it is said to be a rune known as the 'thorn symbol'. It appears only briefly in Halloween 5, once near the beginning (about 7 minutes in) when Michael turns over his scarred hand to reveal the thorn symbol on his wrist, and again (about 34 minutes in) on the arm of the Man in Black. This is a clue to the viewers that Michael and the Man in Black are somehow connected (not to mention that both Michael and the Man in Black are played by Don Shanks).
The symbol also appears on the wall of the Myers house a couple of times.
It's a reference to the bumbling cops in Wes Craven's Aniversário Macabro (1972) (1972).
There's a picture of Sheriff Meeker in the booklet that came with the H5 DVD tin. He looks like he was shot in the midsection in the police station at the end of the movie even though this scene was never seen.
