Maid Marian and Her Merry Men

Perguntas frequentes

A children's comedy show which is Tony Robinson's mock of the legend of Robin Hood. It ran on CBBC on BBC1 in the UK from 1989 - 1994.

A comedic retelling of the legend of Robin Hood, following the adventures of Marian, the bossy, passionate and intelligent leader of a small band of freedom fighters known as The Merry Men and her freedom fighters, cowardly tailor Robin of Kensington, cool Rasta Merry Man Barrington, the insanely violent dwarf Little Ron and the strong and stupid Rabies. As they fight to free the poor and oppressed villagers of Workslop from the cruel tyranny of King John, the devious Sheriff of Nottingham and the two idiotic and unattractive guards Gary and Graeme.

Tony Robinson was watching his daughter playing with other children and it had occurred to him, if she had been in Robin Hood's gang, she would be running it.

Tony Robinson decided to take the role of the Sheriff of Nottingham for himself, because he felt it was his reward for all those years playing the loveable Baldrick in BBC's Blackadder and had never really played a villain.

Rabies was arrested by The Sheriff for selling raffle tickets without a license. The Sheriff arrested Barrington for selling dead rats that had gone passed their sell by dates and try to sell one to Gladys for food. Both Rabies and Barrington were both unfairly sentenced to a month's torture by King John, but were later rescued by Marian, Robin and Little Ron and King John and The Sheriff took their places in the torture chamber. Marian chucked a barrow of water in The Sheriff's face, when The Sheriff chucked a tomato at her and Robin was only outlawed, when fled with Marian in the forest, when Marian held him a swordpoint and threatened to kill him, if the Sheriff, Gary and Graeme did not back off and Robin had been assumed to be her accomplice, since he had The King's royal underpants in his possession and warned that Robin's death would have the King's royal underpants stained in Robin's blood.

It is not known why Tony Robinson named Howard Lew Lewis's character Rabies. Rabies is a virus that is transmitted from animal to dog which infects the central nervous system, ultimately causing disease in the brain and death. Maybe it is because he is a character who is stupid and not very bright.

In the Robin Hood legend, Robin Hood was the leader of thieves and freedom fighters, whom steal from the rich and gave to the poor, as Robin fought against the cruelty and injustice of King John and the Sheriff of Nottingham. In the pilot "How The Band Got Together", Robin's hood dropped, when he set King John's royal underpants on fire and Marian told Robin to put his hood back on. King John and The Sheriff of Nottingham believed the name of the outlaw who burned the royal underpants was Robin Hood and mistaken Robin of Kensington as the Merry Men's leader, not Marian and at one time, Marian was mistaken for Robin in disguise, at an archery tournament, not aware Robin took part, dressed up in a chicken costume as Robert the Incredible Chicken.

When Tony Robinson was being interviewed on CBBC, he announced that the BBC had decided that the fourth series of Maid Marian and Her Merry Men was to be the final series and there would not be a fifth series the following year in 1995.
