Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan, o Bárbaro (1982)

Conan, o Bárbaro

Perguntas frequentes

Arnold entered (and won) his last bodybuilding competition on 4 October 1980, and Conan the Barbarian started filming later that month.

Approximately 24-25. In one scene he speaks about a time where he went hunting with his father while he was 4 or 5 and he mentions this was 20 years ago. Arnold himself would have been 35 when it was released.

However in the comics (First appearing in 1932) the character was in his 30s.

Because nobody in the academy voted for it to receive a nomination. It's also possible the film studio didn't submit it for consideration.

It's a mill for grinding grain.

While Conan the Barbarian was a success financially, Conan the Destroyer was not. Pumping Iron was a low-budget documentary made to promote bodybuilding. It only got famous after Arnold did.

Arnold had become well-known for his bodybuilding career and had appeared in a few movies at this point. But Conan was his first lead role and financial success. However, The Terminator is the film that made him a star.

Due to the momentary implecations of giants, gods of the sky and gods of the earth, from a standpoint of the movies, it takes a more nordic mythology approach than its greek counterpart, but the comics are a very seperate thing as the movie is very different from the original material.

Nordic mythology is very similar to Greek mythology. Gods of sky against Giants of the Earth? That's the "TITANOMACHIA", the foundation of Greek mythology, when the 12-Gods of Olympus fought the Titans-Giants.

The idea that you can forge steel into weapons which you can use to defend yourself, fight your enemies and defeat them but the will of one's faith and personal beliefs are much stronger. Steel can be brittle, no matter how advanced the technique of forging it is, so it can break.

As Thulsa Doom explains to Conan, "Steel is not strong, FLESH is STRONGER." Doom demonstrates that philosophy by coaxing one of his followers into stepping off a high rock to her death. He then boasts about how what he just did is true power. Doom has convinced his followers that his will is much stronger than any other tribe in the land and that no matter how many weapons are forged to fight him, he'll draw more people into his cult.

This appears to be unspecified. It's shown that Conan prays to Crom before a battle but even in his prayers he is somewhat dismissive. He wishes some ill fate on Crom if it won't support him in his mission. It can be compared to a non religious person praying during a tragedy.

Aside from this Conan grew up without support from his town so he would likely not have had a lot of religious teachings during his slave years. Once he left he was able to get some education but it might have been too late to make him properly believe like his relatives would have.

A Cimmerian slave and gladiator named Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is set free after years of slavery. After discovering the skeleton of a Atlantean General in a cave and taking the Atlantean General skeleton's sword for his own. Conan meets the thieves Valeria (Sandahl Bergman) and Subotai (Gerry Lopez) and becomes a thief himself and they break into a tower of the Snake Cult, a sinister religious order that worships the serpent god Set, which they steal from the Snake Cult and kill a giant snake. Conan learns the Snake Cult's leader is Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones) the evil Stygian sorcerer whom attacked Conan's village and slew his tribe when Conan was a child. When the Zamoran ruler King Osric (Max Von Sydow) hires Conan, Valeria and Subotai to rescue his daughter (Valerie Quennessen) whom has become a slave of Thulsa Doom. Conan rides out and is determined to avenge his tribe and kill Thulsa Doom.

As Thulsa explains, when he was a younger man, "There was a time, boy when I searched for steel. Steel meant more to me than gold or jewels."

Essentially Thulsa slaughtered the whole village simply to get Conan's father's sword.

Possibly. That would explain her shy, hesitant response to his seducing her with the Eye of the Serpent, the red jewel they'd stolen.

Due to Britain's strong policy regarding animal violence several scenes involving horses have been cut for the British release of this Schwarzenegger classic. In addition, the sex scene has been altered as well.

The Extended Version of the movie, which has been released in the US contains old footage, renewed and integrated into the movie. The effort goes to show, because through these new scenes, the film gets much more complexity, especially in the otherwise rather boring ending.

Doom hypnotized her with his calm gaze and she was rendered defenseless.

Expanded: One could go on a limb and use the wizard's first rule: "one believes what s/he wants to believe". His mother wanted desperately to believe that her son would be spared. So Thulsa Doom communicated that with his gaze. Note that he turns his back to assure her and only then he strikes.

Yes but only on the US Blu-ray an Extended Cut is featured that differs from the known Extended Version. While the old US DVD is identical to the Extended Cut of the UK Blu-ray, they changed back an alteration between theatrical version and the Extended Cut for the US Blu-ray. In other words, the US Blu-ray features at a certain point an alternative scene of the theatrical version, while the old US DVD and the new UK Blu-ray contain the alternative scene of the Extended Version.

In addition, the UK Blu-ray shows either the additionally censored UK version of the Extended Cut or the uncensored version, depending on the settings of the Blu-ray player.

The Conan chronicles took place in a fictional land called Hyboria, an invention of author Robert E. Howard himself. There are plenty of maps on the web, look in Google Images search & you'll find one. Hyboria itself resembles a strange amalgamation of the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa minus the Mediterranean Sea. Conan's homeland, Cimmeria, seems to be right where Germany exists today. The land that the witch Conan sleeps with speaks of during sex, Zamora, is southeast of Cimmeria.

The filming of the story, though originally planned for Yugoslavia, took place in different areas in Spain.

The skeleton was an Atlantean general.

In the Making of Conan documentary on the DVD. Ed Pressman stated that he had seen Pumping Iron, the feature length documentary about Arnold's days as a champion body builder and Arnold had become a household name and had thought Conan was the perfect role for Arnold.
