This movie is known for an early villainous role by James Spader, but the same year he played the good guy, and coincidentally was one of the new kids, in Tuff Turf: O Rebelde (1985).
A scene towards the film's climax where one of the protagonists is trapped in a room of mirrors as she is being stalked by one of the film's antagonists, plays as an almost homage to a very similar scene from Bruce Lee's Enter The Dragon. A film score is heard playing over the scene that has a similar theme to the one played in the scene in Enter The Dragon, as that film and The New Kids are scored by Argentinian composer Lalo Schifrin.
Dutra's car is a 1965 Ford Econoline.
John Philbin appears in The New Kids, which was directed by Sean S. Cunningham of the original Friday The 13th fame. Philbin would also appear in The Return Of The Living Dead, which featured Miguel A. Núñez Jr. and Mark Venturini, who both appear in the fifth Friday The 13th film.
