Slightly more than a decade after she depicted the legendary possessed teenager Regan, who spun her head 360 degrees and vomited green pea soup in one of the horror genre's greatest historical classics, Linda Blair didn't star in elite and sophisticated movies like "The Exorcist" at all anymore! But that isn't necessarily bad news for the avid cult/exploitation fanatics, because lovely Linda grew out to become one most popular and desirable cult wenches on earth! The unwritten rule states: if you like horror, you love Linda Blair. Nah, just kidding, personally I love Linda because she's an unpretentious and not-at-all-prudish natural babe who stars in some of the silliest and trashiest, but simultaneously most entertaining B-movies of the eighties! After the unsurpassable "Chained Heat" – as far as I'm concerned still the Holy Grail of exploitation cinema – this "Savage Streets" is definitely her finest show piece. This vile and nasty hybrid between vigilante thriller and high-school punk gang literally oozes with unmistakable early 80s trademarks, like raw atmosphere, awful music and even worse clothing styles, misogynic violence, gratuitous nudity and loads of uncompromising violence! Set in less glamorous streets of Hollywood, Blair portrays Brenda, the leader of an all-girl high school gang. Brenda is tough and relentless about pretty much everything except for her vulnerable deaf-mute younger sister Heather, whom she protects and defends with her life. Her gang runs into conflict with The Scars, a violent male gang led by the dangerously disturbed Jake. While Brenda is cat-fighting in the shower and receiving morality speeches in the principal's office, the Scars rape her little sister Heather and kill her pregnant friend Francine. So what's a girl to do? She takes a long bath, dresses up in a tight leather outfit and goes out to extract her vengeance! I could probably write two entire pages filled with the flaws and illogicalities that feature in "Savage Streets", but where's the fun in that? Instead, I'll just shamelessly admit that the film provides non-stop trashy entertainment (well, except maybe during the long & unpleasant gang- rape) and glorious sleaze. The overload of nudity mostly comes from nameless extras; you know the type of girls that are extendedly filmed in the shower before the camera pans to the actual dressing room where the main actresses are having a conversation. But don't worry, as Linda goes topless as well, and so does the beautiful Rebecca Perle whose top is ripped off during a wrestling game in class! Blair and Perle have perhaps the nicest pairs of boobs of the entire decade. But in all honesty, "Savage Streets" also contains a handful of notably tense sequences and truly scary and badass male villains. Particularly Robert Dryer (as Jake) and Sal Landi (as Fargo) are terrifically menacing thugs. The climax is a fantastic – but sadly too short – piece of vigilante action that would even make Charles Bronson proud! The forever underrated John Vernon appears as school principal, but his role is fairly insignificant this time.

Savage Streets (1984) is directed by Danny Steinmann and this belongs to the better achievements of the vigilante genre. Brenda's (Linda Blair) deaf little sister Heather (Linnea Quickley) is abused by a brutal street gang and left to her agony on the school floor. Her sister is very tough and powerful (both physically and mentally) and soon she begins her own war against those b****rds that raped and killed innocent people.

There are no morals in this films, but as far as one is interested in vigilante movies (which may include some morals, too) this is very pleasant classic from the 1980's as these films are not made anymore. The rape scene is pretty disturbing as the girl cannot even scream. The violence is not too heavy but heavy enough to shock the mainstream audience, and this would probably not get an R rating nowadays in its full form, but then, it didn't get it back then, either. Linnea is very beautiful and acts her silent role convincingly, and her sister's actress Linda Blair is also fantastic and should scare all the males with her crossbow and killer expression on her face..

I liked this flick, because I love these nostalgic (just listen to the marvelous soundtrack!!!) street films from the 80's. Others of its kind are for example Lustig's Vigilante, Winner's Death Wish (from the 70's but still) and Ferrara's Ms. 45. Savage Streets is not too intelligent movie but as a trash exploitation this is very important piece of genre's history, in my opinion! And of course there is a shower scene without any other purpose than to show us naked women. And also a fight scene in the shower! And also.. Well, fans of the genre know exactly what to expect from this kind of film: great dialogue and characters, nudity, gratuitous violence, rock and disco music and so on, and Savage Streets delivers it all and so is recommended for fans of this kind of low budget exploitation.

The late 70's early 80's, particularly with the push of home video, saw a deluge of trashy, violent movies that were the joy of my early teens, back in the day when renting an 18+ movie as a kid was pretty easy :).

Bronx Warriors, Exterminator and in my opinion the king of them all, Class of 84, led the way in this boob filled, blood dripping bonanza.

Savage Streets, whilst a lesser entry, is still pretty good for what it was trying to achieve. The draw card was (and probably still is) Linda Blair in her continued efforts to movie along from The Exorcist. Its violent, sleazy and entertaining enough although the passing of time has not been kind.

Definitely the highlight of Linda Blair's post-Exorcist career, this sleezy tale of high school revenge is a must for bad film fans everywhere.

This touching tale tells the story of Brenda (Blair), a tough high school gal who spends her nights drinking peach brandy on the streets of LA with her equally tough friends. One night, they make the mistake of messing with a gang called the Scars ("careful Brenda, these dudes look dangerous"), and before you know it, the Scars have raped and beaten Brenda's deaf, mute sister. Once Brenda learns the truth of what happened, she vows revenge on those responsible.

Directed by Daniel Steinman (Friday the 13th Pt 5), this film has some of the best (and worst) dialogue ever to grace the screen. Blair is fantastic, a hilarious mix of flared nostrils and foul language. Even better is John Vernon,as the principal, in his second film with Blair (Chained Heat is another must see). Vernon steals every scene he's in, whether he's telling Brenda she has "a great body" (!) or telling the Scars to "go f**k an iceberg"!

This is the ultimate 80s high school movie - terrible music, awful acting, questionable violence and gratuitous nudity. Seek it out if you haven't seen it. It's best seen in it's uncut form, as here in the UK twelve minutes were censored!

High school hellcat gets revenge on gang-bangers & thugs in this 80's cult classic. The music soundtrack is outstanding & is truly the movie's highlight.

Sexploitation film with the unmistakable mark of the 80's. There are many ups and downs. Some action scenes are nice but thwre is also bad overacting. You can see lots of naked women, often suffering sexual harassment. The leading character seeks revenge against a clockwork-orange-like gang.

Call "Savage Streets" what it is: trash. However, it is amusing, lowest-of-all-levels trash, and I enjoyed Linda Blair's upfront, colorful performance as the vengeful big sister of a rape victim. The dialogue is hilariously vulgar and self-conscious, and the girls' locker room sequence (filled with naked babes, as if this were a women-in-prison flick) provides just about the final word in exploitative catfights. The tone wavers continually from outrageous juvenalia to psychotic melodrama, and the extreme violence (as well as the rape scene) is tough to stomach. However, the film's goal is to be cartoonish junk, and that is surely realized. ** from ****

This one pretty much has it all. It wears 1980s on its forehead. Linda Blair gets star billing in a role that was a far departure from her usual victim parts. Age 24 when this was filmed, she really seems to revel in this new role. Linnea Quigley gives one of the best performances of her career as a deaf-mute. One year older than Blair, the implication is that she is Blair's younger sister.

Linda (wisely) avoids nudity during the shower scene. She did that the year before in CHAINED HEAT. But she does have an artsy candlelit bathtub scene where she is nude displaying her ample assets.

Also, you know this is an eighties film when the shower scene features an abundance of pubic hair. You wouldn't see that today.

SAVAGE STREETS has nudity, violence, rape, murder, revenge, 80s music, and good locations.

But is also has something else....

Homo hijinks. There's a guy gang called the Scars. They kiss on the lips. One guy sucks another thumb. One wears more makeup than Boy George. And they are CONSTANTLY touching one another. WTF? Did I miss something in the 80s? Oh, yeah...and they have to assert their masculinity through rape. Right.

Sal Landi, as one of the gang members, gives an outstanding performance. Blair is in top form. Check it out!

I am a 40+ year fan & connoisseur of exploitation movies. Call them whatever you like...schlock, trash-cinema, psychotronic films...it doesn't matter. I've literally watched thousands of these type movies, including nearly every notorious Italian cannibal film as well as plenty of rape-revenge flicks. Savage Streets is the rare exception in that I found it so genuinely distasteful that I regret watching it.

In many superficial ways, Savage Streets is a typical 80s violent gang-action film. It's got some decent talent in front of the camera and a lead (Linda Blair) with a recognizable name. It's shot well enough for the B-movie that it is. But behind all the artifice of a generic violent movie, the screenwriter/director went out of his way to absolutely revel in sexual assault.

Sexual assault was, unfortunately, a major trope in countless 70s & 80s exploitation films. It was not uncommon in major studio productions either. I've seen it plenty of times, and I admit, I don't like it. Generally speaking, most of these genre films use rape to amp up the sleaze and provide the protagonist some motivation. Personally, I think this was both distasteful and lazy...but hey, that's just me.

Savage Streets, takes things to a different level. The rape scene is extremely drawn out, very cruel, and perpetrated against a character that is portrayed as very sheltered, vulnerable, and disabled (mute). And it's not even just a rape scene--it's a gang rape...and it goes on forever.

Besides the rape, the film is replete with other instances of violence specifically targeted towards women including sexual assault and murder (of a pregnant woman). This is all done in service of setting up the "revenge" element of the movie.

When I say that the "revenge" element is weak, I'm not lying. Whereas the rape scene was played out graphically, the ONE SCENE with Linda Blair getting "revenge" is shockingly tame (given that this is an exploitation film) and also brief. The film is very unbalanced in that the "revenge" seems a half-hearted afterthought that is only included in order to justify the gratuitous graphic depiction of violence towards women.

I'm not Puritan by any stretch. I've watched plenty of sick stuff. But Savage Streets seems to really revel in glorifying violence towards women in a way that crosses a big boundary (for me). It doesn't do it because it's taboo, it really comes across as the writer/director really being a twisted person.

The lively high school student , Brenda (Linda Blair) , and her all-girl team nicknamed The Satins set out along the knockout streets of the metropolis Los Angeles . But , before long , Brenda's intimate deaf-mute sister, innocent Heather (Linnea Quigley, though another Scream Queen , Brinke Stevens also auditioned for the character) , catches the eye of their ominous leader, Jake , who , with the help of his companions , sexually assault the defenceless girl , including all gang members taking turns on raping her . As our starring vows revenge and decides ¨this means war¨, along the way Brenda taking on the loving overtures of a dimwitted jock and the venomous disputes from his jealous sweetheart . Now, there's no turning back , only law is "An eye for an eye" and blood demands more blood and a deadly revenge. The gang war of the sexes! They raped her sister and killed her best friend. They raped her sister... killed her best friend. A disagreeable and disgusting film making us sick to our stomachs with another violent exploitation movie , though other bits are entertaining in a trashy kind of way . The Exorcist kid , Linda Blair , is at it again in a violent role , as she sets out on a heinous journey of retribution to settle the score in a fascinating climax , only instead of throwing up because she's possessed by the devil , she's carrying out an implacable vengeance . Here she executes a commando-style vendetta on the street band who raped her sister , -leaving her for dead as payback- , by using some lethal bear traps and a mighty crossbow . Linda Blair gives an acceptable acting as the merciless avenger who ultimately delivers justice for her sister's stolen virginity, after ¨The Exorcist I and II¨ , Linda starred lots of B films and exploitation movies , as her career fell in bottom of barrel territory , performing mediocre and below average films as ¨Born Innocent¨ , ¨Chained heat¨, ¨Hell night¨ , ¨Night patrol¨ , ¨Red heat¨ ,¨Ruckus , ¨Wild horse hank¨ , ¨Silent assassins¨ , among others . It contains an extended rape scene with brutal rapists proceeding sleazy action with exploitative intentions , in fact these scenes was heavily cut for a lower rating , as originally the scene was lot longer and more cruel . In any way , being rated ¨R¨ for everything imaginable , including rape , profanity , nudism and some really violent scenes.

It packs a lot of disco music and composed by John D'Andrea who musicalized ¨Baywatch¨ series . The motion picture was regularly directed by Danny Steinmann who made ¨Friday the 13th : A New Begin¨ and ¨The Unseen¨ , though Tom DeSimone was originally attached to film but quit after only a few days of shooting ; the latter also directed ¨Angel 3¨ , ¨The Concrete Jungle¨ and ¨Reform School Girls¨ . Rating . 5/10 . Mediocre and so-so action but very violent movie.

I went alphabetically there, not saying I priorotize one over the other in any way shape or form. Though to be clear, girls are the good ones here. Even if they may not be considered pure I reckon (the way the talk and behave and all that), but that is for the morality police to decide and be furious about.

Furious is a good segway to the premise or rather inciting incident. The movie at least does not linger too long on the abuse and the fact the victim has no way to ... communicate what is being done to her is quite ingenious I guess. You can't be faint hearted or too easily offended though ... otherwise you'd have serious issues (not just with the nudity and the swearing but also the violence)! It's 80s trash to some degree, some will cherish it more than others, and some will loathe it quite a lot

Savage Streets (1984) is one of my favorite trashy flicks. Linda Blair is out for revenge! Dressed in black and armed with a crossbow (that has one heck of a pull) walking the streets, stalking the street scum that have wronged her family and friends. See her marinate in the tub, calculating her every move. This movie's classic Linda Blair. If you love bad movies, this ones for you. It has everything a b-movie fan loves. Bad dialog, hammy acting, pedestrian direction and sleaze (the good kind, not the one that gives you bad flashbacks or nightmares). A couple of the genre's mainstays also have supporting roles, Linnea Quigley and John Vernon make co-star appearances (what no Michelle Bauer?). This movie has bad girls, bad clothes and bad attitude. I highly recommend this movie.

Hardcore, Unapologetic, In your face 80's revenge thriller!! Linda Blair is TOP NOTCH in this film.... A MUST SEE!!

This foray into the exploitation sub-genre is a revenge fantasy made for horny boys and angry girls, all of whom get their share of seedy content to gawk at. The filmmakers knew exactly what they were doing with their lingering shots of naked breasts, sleazily snickering bad guys, gang rape and immolation - but couldn't they at least have done it with a little quality? Unfortunately, every trace of character depth and build-up is pushed aside, and the film hurries its way through badly directed scenes of wafer thin characters doing their genre-motivated things. Yes, Savage Streets gained a cult following, which can only be ascribed to years of strict censorship. Linda Blair looks great in the lead, but her performance is all over the place. The supporting cast is mostly talentless, although main antagonist Robert Dryer is satisfactory in the final showdown - he's good at being inflicted pain.

PS! This review is based on the uncut/uncensored version, which is not easy to get hold of. There is also a heavily edited version, which removes every exposed breast - although not the gruelling immolation. Why a boob is considered more harrowing to watch than a burning man, I will never know.

Brenda (Linda Blair), along with her high school friends, feels its a good idea to steal some hoodlum's car & total it after her deaf/mute sister walks into the middle of the road and almost gets hit by them. This doesn't sit well for the decidedly homo-erotic gang of 'bad boys' lead with sadistic panache by Jake, so they decide to rape Brenda's sister which leads to her seeking vengeance in this 80's exploitation staple.

Some might say that this film is simple-minded and while there's truth to that and it's a valid point, this film is also a pretty good piece of trash that wears it's exploitation badge on it's sleeve. I admire that and it's a fun enough seedy little ride that lets me excuse Blair's terribly campy acting throughout. Director Danny Stienmann does a bang-up job and if he'll just do another film of this caliber I promise i'll forgive him for "Friday the 13th: A New Beginning" Oh yeah, and I have to give props to John Vernon, as well, as his part, though rather small, is still greatness.

Repellent, yet somehow engaging 80s rape/revenge exploitation flick has Linda Blair ("The Exorcist" "Hell Night" "Chained Heat") as a revenge seeking female version of Charles Bronson, sporting a leather catsuit and wielding a crossbow. The movie is a complete mess and is truly exploitative trash in a not good way, but its' such a mess and done with just enough flair, that it keeps you watching. Blair's deaf-mute sister, scream queen Linnea Quigley ("Return of the Living Dead" "Night of the Demons" Silent Night, Deadly Night"), is viciously attacked and assaulted by a nasty gang known as The Scars. When the police and the school principal, John Vernon (Dean Wormer himself), fail to take action, Blair takes matters into her own hands, offing the gang members one by one. The film's climax is pretty good as gory exploitation action goes, but what makes the film so bizarrely engaging is all of the strange story tangents. It's pretty clear the filmmakers didn't know what type of film they wanted to make and just threw everything against the wall to see what would stick. Is it a revenge tale? Is it a high school melodrama? Is it a girl gang movie? Or is it about disconnected teenagers? Maybe if they'd decided on a focus, the film would have been better. Still, the film does feature a catchy soundtrack made up of bands you've never heard of, some decent action, and is not a bad film to watch if you're in the mood for some 80s VHS style video nasty memories.
