Few films evoke high school memories as strongly as “Dazed and Confused,” Richard Linklater’s follow-up to his 1990 feature debut, “Slacker.” The film features a sprawling cast of high schoolers, filled with incoming freshmen, rising seniors and everything in between, as they coalesce on the final day of the school year. Here at JoBlo, we love the eighties. Heck, we even have a Facebook page and a YouTube channel called Loving the 80s— that’s how much we’re obsessed with the decade. However, when you think about all your favorite eighties movies, I’m willing to bet that for the majority of them, there’s a song that immediately comes to mind. That’s because the 80s were the heyday of movie soundtracks. Nowadays, movies just don’t have super popular songs associated with them the way they used to (which is why the Best Original Song category at the Oscars is so horrendous). It’s a shame, because there’s something about a hit song and a movie together that’s just indelible.
But there are two kinds of eighties movie soundtracks. There are those like Against All Odds, where the theme song “Take a Look at Me Now...

Paul Reiser is returning to network television. 14 years after NBC canceled his short-lived sitcom The Paul Reiser Show, the actor is teaming with The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg for a new comedy series on Fox.
According to Deadline, Reiser has partnered with Goldberg to develop an untitled multi-camera comedy series, which will follow the dysfunctional fallout after the family’s failed-to-launch twentysomething son is forced to work alongside his father (Reiser) in the less-than-glamorous New Jersey damaged goods business. In addition to executive producing, Reiser is writing the script with his son, Leon Reiser, and Goldberg, the latter of whom is also attached as an executive producer.
"So excited to be creating this show with the good people at Fox and my two great partners in crime — Adam F. Goldberg and Leon Reiser," said Reiser in a statement. "This feels like it’s on its way to be something really special.

The Goldbergs bade farewell to viewers back in 2023 after ten seasons and 229 episodes on the air, following the titular family in the 1980s. At last, however, series creator Adam F. Goldberg has now found his follow-up to his semi-autobiographical comedy, and he's teaming up with another sitcom veteran to make it happen. A report from Deadline today revealed that Mad About You star and co-creator Paul Reiser is working on a new multi-camera series at Fox and has tapped Goldberg to help pen the script with him and his son, Leon Reiser. The younger Reiser is also producing, while the elder Reiser executive produces and stars in the sitcom, which is currently in early development.
The as-yet-untitled sitcom will follow a dysfunctional father-son duo in the aftermath of a fallout within the family. After the twentysomething fails to launch himself into adulthood, he's forced to work alongside his dad in...

The 80s marked the twilight years of Charles Bronson’s run as an action hero. He spent most of the decade churning out action films for The Cannon Group, with Death Wish III and Death Wish IV: The Crackdown two notable examples. Yet, of all the movies he made with them, one of the more popular titles was 10 to Midnight, which did something a little different, in that it melded the cop films he was known for with the then-nascent slasher genre. And now, the movie, which was wildly controversial for its nasty flashes of violence, is heading to 4K Blu-ray courtesy of Kino Lorber. No release date is set yet, but the company has promised it’s being completed from a new 4K master.
In 10 to Midnight, Bronson plays a cop who’s going after a serial killer targeting young women. When he catches the killer (Gene Davis) red-handed,...

Eddie Murphy Defends His Razzie-Winning Movie That May Have Cost Him An Oscar: "Sh-t Ain't That Bad"
Eddie Murphy stands by the movie that won him multiple Golden Raspberry Awards, aka Razzies, and is speculated to have lost him his one and only Oscar nomination. Murphy is one of the most beloved comedic actors of all time, having made a name for himself as a performer on Saturday Night Live before later dominating the box office.
But since Murphy’s run of well-received 1980s films like Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America, his projects haven’t always landed with ubiquitous praise. Films like The Nutty Professor, Dr. Doolittle, and I Spy certainly found their audiences, but received mixed reviews from critics. But it sounds like the comedian isn’t letting that get to him.

Eddie Murphy is defending his 2007 comedy Norbit, 18 years later.
The actor-comedian was the top contender for the best supporting actor Oscar following his 2006 performance in Dreamgirls, though it’s been long believed that he lost out on the award after Norbit released in 2007. Although it’s commonly assumed that the comedy snuffed out his Oscars campaign, Murphy doesn’t agree with that sentiment.
“I love Norbit. Norbit came out right after I got that Oscar nomination,” he told Complex. “There were articles like, ‘How can he get an Oscar, he did this?’ They’re two different movies.”
The Beverly Hills Cop lead stood ten toes down for the film, which he notably wrote alongside his brother, Charlie Murphy. He continued, “I wrote Norbit with my brother, Charlie, and we think Norbit is funny. Here’s the thing with Norbit — it came out and they gave me Razzie Awards for worst actress,...

Eddie Murphy isn't motivated by accolades - but he'd still love to win an Oscar. The 64-year-old actor has enjoyed huge success in Hollywood, starring in hit film franchises like Beverly Hills Cop and Shrek, but Eddie insists that he's not motivated by awards. The comedian-turned-actor told Sky News: "The movies are timeless, and they're special, so for years and years those movies play and the movies have commercial success."So you make a lot of money and people love it, so you don't even think about 'I didn't win a trophy!' The response from the people and that the movie has legs, that's the trophy."You know what I've earned over these years? One day, they'll give me one of those honorary Oscars. When I'm really old. And I'll say thank you so much for this wonderful honour. I'll be old like that and I'll have no teeth.

There’s been much talk lately of the decline of the movie comedy. But action-comedies, the movie comedy’s punchier, shootier, more explodey cousin, are all the rage — at least for streaming services looking for undemanding, easy-to-watch, pop-it-on-in-the-background fare. In the last year alone, we’ve had Deep Cover, Heads Of State, Love Hurts, Novocaine, Back In Action, Guns Up — and now The Pickup, starring Eddie Murphy.
Murphy would seem like canny casting: he is largely responsible for the popularity of action-comedies in their modern form, having starred in some of the greatest incarnations of the subgenre in the 1980s, from 48 Hrs. to Beverly Hills Cop. But in The Pickup, he is unwisely and disappointingly placed in the role of the straight man, his natural comedic gifts largely muzzled, while fellow former SNL cast-member Pete Davidson takes the role of his comedic foil. Eddie Murphy has starred in a long list of beloved films over the course of his illustrious career, encompassing a wide variety of roles, with some of his most notable performances coming from Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America, and more recently, Dolemite Is My Name. Despite his on-screen successes, Murphy has never won an Academy Award, and he predicts that he won't be picking up a coveted Oscar statuette any time soon, even though his latest action-comedy The Pickupis currently dominating Prime Video's streaming charts.
Murphy made the surprising Oscars prediction while speaking to Sky News on the press tour for The Pickup, in which he stars as an armored truck driver alongside Pete Davidson. The film debuted on Prime Video on Aug. 6, and immediately found an audience, as it rocketed to the top of the streaming chart within hours of its release. The heist comedy remains in the No.

Eddie Murphy's 2025 heist comedy is dominating Prime Video immediately after its release. Best known for starring in the Beverly Hills Cop series, Murphy has enjoyed significant box office successes throughout his career — but some of his movies also fell short, with a few considered to be flops.

Prime Video’s The Pickup (2025), directed by Tim Story, puts a fresh spin on the buddy heist comedy formula with a vibrant ensemble and no shortage of surprises. The film centers on two armored truck drivers whose delivery spirals into chaos after a daring ambush by a crew of ruthless—and unexpectedly familiar—criminals. Here’s an in-depth look at the cast and the roles they bring to life.
‘The Pickup’: Complete Cast & Characters Guide 1. Eddie Murphy as Russell Pierce
Russell is a veteran armored truck driver who’s spent decades playing it safe for his wife, Natalie. All he wants is to complete his last shift and celebrate their 25th anniversary, but he’s drawn back into action when his route turns dangerous. Murphy’s signature blend of curmudgeonly humor and world-weary wisdom keeps the team grounded amid escalating tensions. Fans know Murphy from classics like Beverly Hills Cop,...

There are certain movies that over the years have become film industry shorthand for box office fiascos: "Heaven's Gate," "Ishtar," "Waterworld," "Cutthroat Island," and so forth. But in truth, I have no idea why "Waterworld" keeps getting name-checked as a massive bomb, seeing as it eventually broke even and inspired a massively popular stunt show at Universal Studios Hollywood. Also irksome: The worst of these movies, "Cutthroat Island," is at least packed with jaw-droppingly elaborate spectacle, while "Heaven's Gate" and "Ishtar" are genuinely great movies from two of the most talented directors of their era (Michael Cimino and Elaine May).
I've long held that a film's box office is of little concern to the general public. Once upon a time, if you were interested in the movie business, you had to shell out for a pricey subscription to Variety or The Hollywood Reporter. Then "Entertainment Tonight" debuted in 1981, and suddenly...

Eddie Murphy's new Prime Video comedy movie, a teaming with fellow SNL alum Pete Davidson, debuts with a disappointing Rotten Tomatoes score.
The star of such classics as 48 Hrs., Beverly Hills Cop and The Nutty Professor knows what it feels like to receive the adulation of critics. But Murphy has also experienced the other end of the critical spectrum, having starred in a handful of movies that were not merely panned, but brutalized.
There are indeed some massive flops on Murphy’s resume, including the notorious bombs The Adventures of Pluto Nash, Norbit, Beverly Hills Cop III and Vampire In Brooklyn. Critics also had their knives out for less-notable misfires like A Thousand Words, Holy Man, The Haunted Mansion, and I Spy.
Murphy’s recent comeback has largely resulted in middling reviews, with the notable exception of Dolemite Is My Name, currently Murphy’s best-performing film on Rt with a 97% fresh rating.

In just two days, comedy icons Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson are about to join forces for a heist they never asked for in The Pickup. The new action comedy casts the pair of Saturday Night Live alumni as mismatched armored truck drivers who, during what should have been a routine, if lengthy, job, are ambushed and forced into a high-risk scheme orchestrated by the criminal mastermind Zoe, played by Nope star Keke Palmer. Before their very bad day spins out of control on streaming, though, Collider is partnering with Prime Video to share an exclusive sneak peek introducing the three main characters and their clashing personalities. Picture 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop and you’ve got any number of images or sounds that made it one of the funniest movies of the decade – if not ever. But it wasn’t always supposed to be that way. Now try to picture Sylvester Stallone doing anything that Eddie Murphy did – we love Sly, but his comedy outings aren’t exactly classics. Early on, Stallone was actually attached to be the lead in Beverly Hills Cop. Fortunately, it wasn’t yet a comedy, only morphing into one once Murphy came on board. Prior to that, it was a straight-up action flick that had Stallone written all over it – well, an early draft did, at least.

Considering the fact that It — or Pennywise the Dancing Clown, as they prefer — is an ancient extraterrestrial entity who made first contact with Earth in approximately 1 Million Bce, it's somewhat surprising that it's taken 39 years for Stephen King's horror opus and its titular terrifier to get a spin-off. But now, with HBO Max's upcoming It: Welcome To Derry, we are about to get exactly that: a prequel series to Andy Muschietti's It duology set in 1962, 27 years before Pennywise and The Loser Club first made each other's acquaintance. And if the new trailer for the show is anything to go by, it looks like sleep's back off the menu — check it out below;
Globophobes, coulrophobes, and general fraidy-cats (us included) beware — showrunners Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane aren't clowning around as they pick up the baton from series co-developer Muschietti with Welcome To Derry. Despite this latest...

A couple of years ago, we reported on Eddie Murphy engaging in negotiations to star in a new continuity of Pink Panther films. The original movie starred Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau as he tracks down a notorious jewel thief known as “The Phantom” before he is able to steal a priceless diamond known as “The Pink Panther”. The opening credits included the cartoon panther that audiences have come to associate with the franchise, and sources said that this new project will attempt to meld both worlds. The live-action/CG hybrid movie is said to see “the Pink Panther’s live-action crew break him out of his animated prison to do a heist job.“
Since the news broke, Murphy has starred in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and soon, he will be starring in Amazon MGM’s The Pickup. Murphy recently spoke with NBC‘s Al Roker on Today in...

After two feature films, Bill Skarsgard will return to the role of Pennywise in the upcoming prequel seriesIT: Welcome to Derry. His comeback is teased in a new teaser trailer that was just released by HBO Max.
Set to arrive in October, just in time for the spooky holiday season, It: Welcome to Derry is an HBO Max series that serves as a prequel to Skarsgard's It films. Spanning nine episodes, the series will obviously follow a new cast of characters, though a certain familiar clown pops up in the new teaser trailer. Check out the video below.
The new show was developed for the small screen by Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, the filmmaking team behind It and It: Chapter Two, alongside Jason Fuchs. Andy Muschietti, who directed the two It films, also directs multiple episodes of It: Welcome to Derry. While the movies took direct inspiration from...

On July 25, It's time to head back to the links — and the 1990s — with Adam Sandler. The star is picking up his golf clubs again for Netflix's Happy Gilmore 2, a belated follow-up to the 1996 golf comedy that propelled him onto Hollywood's comedy A-list. It's the first time that Sandler has revisited one of those vintage comedies; to date, his only live-action sequels to previous successes have been Grown-Ups 2 and Murder Mystery 2.
Interestingly, Happy Gilmore 2 is arriving on Netflix one month ahead of Sandler's latest seriocomic turn; the actor will be starring alongside George Clooney in Noah Baumbach's Venice-bound feature Jay Kelly. And the two actors will likely be joined at the hip throughout awards season as Clooney positions himself for his first Best Actor nomination since The Descendants way back in 2013. (He won a Best Supporting Actor statuette in 2007 for Syriana.)

According to Liam Neeson (and the past several years of film releases), comedy at the cinema is dying. Back in my day, you couldn’t last the school day without hearing people talk about films like Tommy Boy, Airheads, Wayne’s World, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, Coneheads, The Big Lebowski, Napoleon Dynamite, and more. Those days are steadily going the way of the dodo. However, in a new PSA, Liam Neeson says you can help save the genre by showing your support for The Naked Gun, coming to theaters on August 1, 2025.
Here’s the official synopsis for The Naked Gun:
“Only one man has the particular set of skills… to lead Police Squad and save the world! Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson) follows in his father’s footsteps in The Naked Gun, directed by Akiva Schaffer and from producer Seth MacFarlane. Joining the cast are Pamela Anderson,...

It’s official—Guy Ritchie has slammed the door shut on Road House 2. While Amazon MGM Studios is still staying tight-lipped on why the filmmaker walked away, the sequel is still very much alive and kicking. Even Jake Gyllenhaal is set to reprise his role as the bouncer turned Florida renegade, Dalton.
After the original 2024 remake, we know that the Road House franchise still has plenty of punch left. So now the gig question remains—if not Guy Ritchie, who has the grit, style, and action chops to deliver this sequel? With screenwriter Will Beall (Bad Boys: Ride or Die) crafting the script and Gyllenhaal doubling down as both star and producer, the stage is set for an action-packed follow-up.
But it needs the right director—someone who knows how to mix the punches with cinematic flair. So, we’ve rounded up five directors who are somewhat best suited to replace Ritchie.

Iron Man. Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Avengers. Deadpool & Wolverine. The famed Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con has become the go-to place for major studios to preview their upcoming big screen blockbusters, from new installments in billion dollar franchises to Marvel’s latest superhero offerings. Back in 2019, Deadline fittingly referred to San Diego Comic-Con as “Cannes for Capes,” calling Hall H “the biggest stage” at the annual event as well as “a mandatory stop for anybody in the business of sci-fi, fantasy, horror, or superhero fare.”
But many of the major studios – including Marvel and WB/DC – are sitting out Sdcc this year, leaving some big Hall H spots to be filled. And you better believe we’re filling one of them.
Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting are excited to announce today that director Macon Blair’s The Toxic Avenger will be oozing into Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con this summer!

Fans have been waiting a long time to see writer/director Macon Blair’s remake of the Troma cult classic The Toxic Avenger (watch it Here), which wrapped filming way back in 2021 and unveiled a teaser trailer near the end of 2023, around the time it had its world premiere screening – but we won’t have to wait much longer. At the start of the year, it was announced that Cineverse had acquired the distribution rights with the intention of giving the film a wide release, and we’ve since learned that they’re aiming for an August 29th theatrical release. Before we reach that date, it has been revealed that Toxie is going to be oozing his way into San Diego Comic-Con for a Hall H panel that’s scheduled to take place from 5:30Pm – 6:30Pm on Thursday, July 24th!

What makes a movie rewatchable? An interesting story? Compelling characters? Strong performances? Humor? Quotable lines? A truly rewatchable movie will have all of these and a little extra. We’re talking about the type of movies that you can throw on the TV when you’re having a bad day and instantly feel a little better. The type of movie that grabs your attention as you walk through the room and immediately distracts you from whatever you were doing. The type of movie that you have to watch, no matter how many times you’ve seen it before.
We took on the impossible task and compiled our list of the 25 most rewatchable movies of all time and listed them in chronological order of release. Denzel Washington’s agent will be getting a call – it looks as though there’s a sequel to Crimson Tide in the offing. More here.
Jerry Bruckheimer made an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show this week, where he gave brief updates on several projects, most of which we know to be in some stage of development. Another Top Gun film, a Pirates Of The Caribbean sequel and a return for Tom Cruise to motorsport with Days Of Thunder 2 – all were mentioned, and are all projects that in one way or another have already been mentioned in the past.
One surprise, however, was Bruckheimer’s announcement that a sequel to the submarine-set thriller Crimson Tide is in the works, with Bruckheimer adding that a director and writer are already in place. They’re developing a story that will follows on from the events of the first film, in which Denzel...

John Cena might've risen to fame thanks to his wrestling days, but he has become a popular actor since he switched to the film industry. However, not all his projects attracted positive reviews, but his new release makes an exciting change.
Ahead ofPeacemaker Season 2's release later this summer, John Cena teamed up with Idris Elba for the action comedy Heads of State. A new project with Prime Video, the film premiered on the streaming platform on July 2. Ahead of the film's release,Heads of State debuted with an unfortunate score on Rotten Tomatoes, only 50%, per MovieWeb, but it has since improved and finally got a fresh score.
Since 2023, Cena has had a disastrous Rotten Tomatoes trend. Since Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which had stunning reviews, 95% from the critics and 90% from the audience with the two coveted badges, Verified Hot and Certified Fresh, Cena had only negative scores from the critics.

“The Running Man” is dashing into theaters soon.
The Edgar Wright-directed adaptation of the Stephen King novel, which stars Glen Powell as a man who becomes embroiled in a killer game show, is headed to theaters on Nov. 7. And we’ve got the very first trailer, which you can watch below.
In the film Powell plays Ben Richards, a contestant on “The Running Man,” a show that sees contestants hunted for sport. Colman Domingo plays the host of the show, while Katy O’Brian and Daniel Ezra play other contestants on the show. Josh Brolin is the show’s producer and Jayme Lawson is Ben’s wife Sheila. The cast also includes Lee Pace, Michael Cera, William H. Macy and Sean Hayes.

This weekend sees the release of F1, a movie which reunites some of the important creatives before Top Gun: Maverick, notably director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Starring Brad Pitt, it feels very much like a Tom Cruise movie, minus Tom Cruise, but the superstar has been outspoken in his support of the project. Imagine, if you will, a world where Seth Rogen — an actor and writer known for everything from "Freaks & Geeks" to "Superbad" and "Knocked Up" — appeared in "Gigli," the 2003 movie that may or may not have fractured stars Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's relationship for the first time. Apparently, that kind of almost happened, and Rogen claims that his audition is so deeply offensive that if anyone ever found the tape, he'd be ruined forever.
At this point, I'd like to put forth the idea that Rogen has accrued enough cultural goodwill by just being a seemingly good dude — look no further than his continued and passionate support for Alzheimer's research and care provided by the government, as just one example — but he's probably right that this video should never see the light of day. Seth Rogen recently quipped on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” that he might lose his acting career if his early aughts audition for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s “Gigli” was ever to be made public. “The Studio” star and creator was asked by Kimmel if he still has to audition for parts, which prompted Rogen to walk down bad memory lane.

Even the biggest, most successful actors in Hollywood have auditions they’re ashamed of — and for Seth Rogen, that audition happened for the movie “Gigli.” “The Studio” creator and star reflected on his regrettable tape while stopping by “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

The Pickup stars Eddie Murphy and another former Saturday Night Live cast member as wisecracking “mismatched armored truck drivers” who are attacked by a gang of “ruthless criminals” and forced to rob a casino. And apparently, it’s coming out this year, and not in, like, 1997.
Co-starring Pete Davidson and Keke Palmer, The Pickup looks like the kind of buddy action comedy that Hollywood used to churn out with some regularity. Promisingly, it was directed by Tim Story, who also made Barbershop, Ride Along and the underrated meta-horror comedy The Blackening. But it’s also a return of sorts for Murphy.
Murphy, of course, launched his movie career by starring in one of the most famous buddy action flicks of all-time: Walter Hill’s 48 Hours. The 1982 blockbuster starred Murphy as a slick criminal forced to partner with a surly, drunken cop played by Nick Nolte, who has seemingly stayed...

43 years ago, the runaway box office success of "48 Hrs.," in which Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy bickered and brawled as they attempted to track down a couple of vicious escaped convicts, turned the buddy-cop subgenre into a formula goldmine. Before the 1980s drew to a close, films like "Running Scared," "Beverly Hills Cop," "Lethal Weapon," and "Red Heat" were able to work profitable variations on this very simple dynamic. Even though cops have never been more difficult to root for, the subgenre, as evidenced by the 2024 success of "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley," is still commercially appealing today.
While movies like "48 Hrs." and "Lethal Weapon" were powered by tightly constructed screenplays, the vast majority of buddy cop films got by on comedic anarchy. They actually had more in common with Richard Rush's gloriously shaggy "Freebie and the Bean" from 1974; two partners exchange profane repartee for a couple...

The film business is rife with tantalizing what-ifs. What if James Cameron had made "Spider-Man?" What if CBS hadn't exercised its "Magnum P.I." contract option on Tom Selleck and allowed Steven Spielberg to get his first choice for the role of Indiana Jones in "Raiders of the Lost Ark?" What if Sylvester Stallone had played Axel Foley in "Beverly Hills Cop?"
We've no idea if these alternate timeline possibilities would've worked out better than what we got, but it's fun to think about what might've been. These questions also remind us just how volatile studio projects can be. There's a huge element of luck that goes into every creative endeavor. You might think you've got a great director, a can't-miss script, and a murderer's row of a cast, but then you go and shoot the movie and you wind up with "Hook." There are no guarantees.
No one knows this better than Clint Eastwood.

Funnyman Eddie Murphy has been appearing in feature films since the early 1980s, and fans will have their own favorites for what might stand out as the most memorable. The actor and comedian himself can also name which film perhaps defines his career more so than any other.
Murphy recently appeared as a guest on The Jennifer Hudson Show, where he was joined by Keke Palmer. On the show, Hudson brought up how Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds said Eddie Murphy should have won an Oscar for The Nutty Professor, given how he played several different characters in the comedy. Murphy went on to share how much he loves that some people don't even realize just how many different roles he had in the film, calling it his "favorite thing." He then shared how he considers The Nutty Professor to be his career-defining role.

When Gene Roddenberry created "Star Trek" in the 1960s, he savvily pitched it as "'Wagon Train' to the stars." Television Westerns like "Gunsmoke," "Bonanza," and "Rawhide" were all the rage at the time, so it was a masterstroke of broadcast salesmanship to suggest that a show about space exploration center on humankind pursuing its intergalactic manifest destiny. All of humankind. Which meant that the bridge of the Starship Enterprise would include the Asian helmsman Sulu and the Black communications officer Uhura. And a Vulcan named Spock.
This inclusiveness allowed the three-season run of "Star Trek" to palpably connect with viewers of various ethnic backgrounds. It was a show for everyone at a time when every person on the planet could suddenly look to the stars and say, "I might get there in my lifetime." The series inspired people to learn, to empathize, and to treat artificial intelligence with contempt.
