Remember this from my schooldays. My tastes were still evolving and my view of British Society was framed by twee sitcoms as this.
Nothing much particularly happens in this comedy. It's not entirely unfunny but every episode is forgettable. A household bursting with dysfunctionality held together by mother and father. William Gaunt showcasing his dry humour, a deviation from his role as the secret agent in the Protectors.
Familiar faces creep up, Martin Clunes being the most noteworthy.
What else is there to say. Only watchable if you're feeling in a nostalgic mood. Give it another 20 years and no one will even know this sitcom ever existed.

I remember they used to show "No Place Like Home" on my local PBS station in the late 80's. It was a good show, an entertaining sitcom about somewhat disfunctional family. Martin Clunes as the son, and William Gaunt as the exhusted father, standout. Daniel Hill as the goofy son-in-law is very funny.
It's much better then anything British they play on PBS stations nowadays. To bad it's not on anymore~

Totally pointless. Only good thing for me is that it launched Martin Clunes. Father...stereotypical with an unspecified job and always moaning in a funny way. Unfortunately it's not funny. Mother...more like a sister than a wife, always "doing" unspecified things and being comically long suffering. Except it's not comical. Children...lazy, entitled and lacking in personality. Was there one who was a traffic warden with an amusing relationship with another warden? Problem. Not amusing and patronising. And the neighbours... the woman, complete with "funny" voice seems to be deranged for no reason and the man is just a sounding board for the tedious monologues of the father. As you can gather, I didn't like it.
I remember enjoying this being on when I was young. I enjoyed it more than I did the second time round. Watching the father now is painful. He is a controlling nightmare. Awful. Everyone else is funny. Martin Clunes is great and it started the become less funny after he left before Series 4. Raymond the son in law is so pathetic he is funny. The way the husband talks to the wife is so cringe worthy. The neighbours with the animals starts funny but by the end of the second series its boring. If you watch this just try and put up with the Father because he is a nightmare and you may find yourself getting angry.
Only the second old comedy repeated on forces tv that I've not been able to get through a series and didn't enjoy any of the ones I did watch so forced and so pointless.
