This was the first movie that actor Dan Aykroyd made after his comedic buddy John Belushi (Jake Blues of "The Blues Brothers") had passed away, just three months before principal photography began.
Dan Aykroyd married Donna Dixon after working with her on this project. They would also both appear later in "Os Espiões que Entraram numa Fria (1985)" and "Uma Alucinante Viagem (1988)."
Fran Drescher has said in her autobiography "Enter Whining" that the movie was expected to be a box-office hit, but it wasn't, by the time the film finished its run it had only made US $ 10.8 million from its budget outlay of US $ 8 million.
The end of the film promises "Doctor Detroit II, the Wrath of Mom" which was in the works. In fact, Dan Aykroyd was writing the script. But when this film turned out to be a box office bomb, "Universal" pulled the plug.
