  • Susan Clark: We go down about a mile, there's a side road that cuts through the hills - that'll take us to a Union Road, then it's straight to US101. That way, we can miss all this traffic.
  • Jack: Another Susan Clark Special Shortcut.
  • Susan Clark: Listen, this time I have a map.
  • Jack: Oh, got a map!
  • Bruce: Oh great, last time she only had a hunch.
  • Jack: Real nice, uh, shortcut, Susan. I like the cows. I especially like the bumps.
  • Susan Clark: Now, Jack, how was I supposed to know this road was going to be bumpy?
  • Jack: A big-time newswoman like Barbara Walters, now she would have known. She wouldn't take us on a bumpy road like this.
  • Susan Clark: Yeah well, Barbara Walters wouldn't be working with you guys.
  • [Bruce and Jack groan mockingly]
  • Susan Clark: Well, is this Union Road?
  • Bruce: Who cares? It's paved! Which way?
  • [Jack points right]
  • Susan Clark: Left.
  • Jack: [groaning] Right...
  • Jack: The story here in the "Herald Examiner" says that Harlan was a nice guy.
  • Bruce: Hmph, well I guess you can't believe everything you read nowdays!
  • Harlan Hollis: Thanks, guys.
  • Bruce: Look at this. We found your picture at the plane crash site.
  • Harlan Hollis: That's a publicity shot. I haven't even seen it yet!
  • Bruce: Well, then that means that it must be someone *inside* your company that's trying to kill you.
  • Harlan Hollis: I just don't want to believe that either Richard, Michael or Arthur would want to kill me.
  • Bruce: Well, somebody has gone to a lot of time and trouble to get rid of you, and they've been pretty damn obvious about it!
  • [about Kelly's teddy bear]
  • Michael Fox: Honey, you want to put the, er, dog in the car?
  • Kelly Hollis: No, I'll keep him. And he's a bear, not a dog.
  • Michael Fox: Of course. Any fool can see that.
  • [Harlan running late for premiere]
  • Bruce: Maybe something's happened to him.
  • Jack: Don't even think that. He's wearing my suit!
  • [after Harlan is presumed dead]
  • Harlan Hollis: Hiya, Hoyt.
  • Hoyt: Oh, hi, Harlan. Harlan? Sonova gun, man! I heard you were dead!
  • Harlan Hollis: They can't kill me.
  • Hoyt: Here are the keys to the car - it's my wife's car.
  • Harlan Hollis: Your wife's car? Don't you have anything better?
  • Hoyt: Look, it's the yellow 'vette. I think it'll do the job.
  • Harlan Hollis: Oh, okay.
  • Larry Bergleman: It's 6:30! Where the hell have you been? Let me show you something. You see this? This is a newspaper. It takes a long time to print a newspaper, but they can do it faster than this crew can give me stories!
  • Susan Clark: It's been...
  • Larry Bergleman: ...a long day. Yeah, I can see it's been a long day. And what the hell happened to the car?
  • [on the roof of the Cinerama Dome]
  • Harlan Hollis: [holding gun] Okay, let's have some answers, Michael!
  • Michael Fox: [points to crowd of on-lookers below] See all of that? Huh? That's me! I did it! Now you make movies, that's all. The reason you're successful is because of me! I created the image! I'm the reason that those films are box-office smashes, but you've got it all right in the palm of your hand. You and Richard. Well, now it's my turn, and I want it all! You gonna have to use that thing, Harlan.
  • Harlan Hollis: [throws gun aside] I don't need a gun.
  • [Michael looks around and picks up a wooden plank, brandishing it menacingly]
  • Michael Fox: [chuckles and advances] You never learn, do you, Harlan? You're still a junkman. I'm gonna tell you something, Harlan. I'm going to kill you. You know something else? I'm gonna get rid of Richard, and I'm going to run the company through Kelly. You want to know something else? All these people watching? Well, they're gonna think it was just a publicity stunt that you brought up. Just a terrible accident that just didn't quite work!
  • [goes to hit Harlan but misses, loses his balance, and falls off the roof to his death]
  • Susan Clark: Michael, I'm sorry. Is there anything I can do?
  • Michael Fox: Yeah, you can tell me what happened. You were up there.
  • Susan Clark: There was an explosion - it look like World War III. It was terrible! I- I just don't know!
  • [Michael enters Richard's office]
  • Michael Fox: Richard, Susan Clark and the crew are here. They came to finish the story.
  • Arthur Wheeler: Today? No way! I don't want to turn this into a sideshow!
  • Michael Fox: Look, we have a obligation to uphold. Not to the fans, but the press, in general. I mean, we can't lock this place up. Let's deal with the reality of the situation.
  • Arthur Wheeler: Look, the reality is we have no idea what the hell is going on! Now, we're gonna open this damn film in two days. Now, how can we have a gallant premiere with Harlan's death hanging over our heads?
  • Michael Fox: That's a matter of public relations and that's my job.
  • [to Richard]
  • Michael Fox: Look, we got nothing to hide. Let's just let them in and deal with everything up front.
  • Arthur Wheeler: No, Michael, you are wrong! We can't do that!
  • Michael Fox: Damn it, Arthur! We owe this to Harlan!
  • [sighs]
  • Michael Fox: Richard, this is your company now. What do you want to do? You want to let them in, or not?
  • Richard Harris Hill: Let 'em in.
  • Larry Bergleman: [crouched under Susan's newsdesk] Yesterday, you told me you had a dynamite story. Little did I realize that that meant Richard Hill and Michael Fox would nearly be blown to bits. Now you know something about this, don't you?
  • Susan Clark: Larry, I'd check my sources, but you'd never believe me.
  • Larry Bergleman: Yeah okay, and I don't believe I'm doing this either.
  • Susan Clark: What?
  • Larry Bergleman: Giving you this file from research. It's on recreational planes. You're on your own from here.
  • Susan Clark: How can I ever thank you?
  • Larry Bergleman: [slams the file onto the news desk] Just don't do anything dumb.
  • Susan Clark: [Susan takes Larry's hand and her hand and folds them together] Stay tuned for more news on your Independent Network News station.
  • Sgt. Gullen: I know your cat died, Mr. Horowitz, but that's no reason to jump.
  • [telephone buzzes]
  • Sgt. Gullen: [to jumper] Could you hold on a minute, please?
  • Sgt. Gullen: [into phone] Sergeant Gullen.
  • Harlan Hollis: This is the Goodyear Blimp, we're coming in for an emergency landing on Sunset Boulevard. There's a limousine parked in a parking lot with a bomb in it.
  • Sgt. Gullen: What's your name, sir?
  • Harlan Hollis: This is Harlan Hollis!
  • Sgt. Gullen: [sarcastically, thinking Harlan was killed earlier] Yeah, and I'm Woody Allen!
  • Harlan Hollis: This is Harlan Hollis!
  • Sgt. Gullen: What's your phone number and location?
  • Harlan Hollis: If you look out your window, you'll probably see it. Now you'd better hurry up because that bomb's going to go off any second.
  • Sgt. Gullen: [turns to see blimp outside his office window] Shit! This is Sergeant Gullen. Dispatch the bomb squad and all available units to the Cinerama Dome!
  • Harlan Hollis: [while being chased by assassins] Where in the hell are the cops when you need them?
  • Susan Clark: I just talked to the coroner. Nothing's left. The heat. He was cremated.
  • Bruce: [sighs] Let's go home.
  • Bruce: You look terrible!
  • Harlan Hollis: God, if you got hit by a water tank, you'd look terrible, too.
  • Eccentric Pig Farmer: Farrah, I'm so proud of you. You put those pretty girls to shame... to shame! From now on, whatever you want it, you got it. You and I are going to the top. Ain't nothing or no one gonna stop us now. The opportunity is to keep the wide doors open!
  • [notices one of the assassin planes hurling towards him]
  • Michael Fox: Richard, how many times do I have to say this? Buy American. These foreign cars, they're like toys, you know?
  • Michael Fox: [climbing to the roof of the Cinerama dome] Come on, Harlan! You and me!
  • Eccentric Pig Farmer: [after the France car enthuasists pile-up] You Europeans are crazy drivers! You almost hurt my precious Farrah!
  • Eccentric Pig Farmer: Farrah, I'm so proud of you. you put those county fair girls to shame. Soon as this traffic starts moving, we're going up to the top.
  • [last lines]
  • Eccentric Pig Farmer: Farrah, I don't think we'll be coming back here, anytime soon. These Hollywood people are just too weird.
  • Arthur Wheeler: [to Dennis, the security guy] Dennis, unless they got a Hollis Production ID card, they don't come through that gate, you got it? Not even the press, it's just..
  • [Christine tries to interrupt Arthur]
  • Arthur Wheeler: wait a minute... it's for employees only, I don't want to make this into a damn carnival.
