This Spanish film deals with an atypical parish priest called Saturno , Alfredo Landa, who is moved by the bishop , Jose Franco, to a small village , Valterreros . He is an inusual Aragonese priest with strong "Maño" accent similarly to Paco Martinez Soria , including performing Aragon songs . At the village where is destinated he faces off Doña Aurora , Irene Gutierrez Caba, a wealthy as well as powerful woman and she has a daughter , Carmen Roldan , who has been pregnant by the village teacher : Emilio Gutierrez Caba . Landa turns on the prim Mrs. Aurora and then a peculiar war ensues. Shortly after, an American priest appears at the village and both of them compete for the villagers .
A likeable but mediocre film starred by the always splendid Alfredo Landa , here imitating to Paco Martinez Soria playing one his ordinary roles as a honest Aragonese priest with strong character .This ordinary comedy has passable interpretations , humor , laughs and a brief description of rural habits with cultural clash included . The movie gets a simple and silly premise , as the good guys result to be unfortunate and poor people , and the bad guys as well as ruthless women turn out to be rich and egoistic individuals . Landa gives a decent acting as the stubborn and revolutionary priest who contends the conservatory and traditional local forces . At the same time , he gives advises , common saying, proverbs and provoking sentences to the townfolks such as a dancer girl played by Nene Morales or the Mayor played by Erasmo Pascual or the loving couple formed by Carmen Roldan /Emilio Gutierrez Caba. After his first acting period in which Landa played secondary roles as El Verdugo , Nobleza Baturra, Ninette y un Señor de Murcia , Atraco a las tres, Las cicatrices , Vozka and whisky ; later on , Alfredo made No desearas el vecino del Quinto , from now on , Landa acted in main roles and created a sub-genre : " Landismo" including titles as Onofre , Obsesiones de Armand , Los Porretas and many others . After that , J.A. Bardem
directed him in El Puente and Jose Luis Garci in El Crack , Las verdes praderas, following a lot of serious and important titles as Los Santos inocentes , La vaquilla , El bosque animado , El canto de a Cigarra, El pecador impecable , Sinatra, La marrana , Cancion de cuna , You are the one , Historia de un beso. Here Alfredo Landa is well accompanied by a long plethora of Spanish secondaries as Emilio G Caba , Carmen Roldan , Alfonso Del Real , Erasmo Pascual , Mariano Ozores , Maria Elena Flores , Jose Franco , Francisco Camoiras, and uncredited Victor Israel .
It packs a lively and catching musical score by Gregorio Garcia Segura . Atmospheric and evocative cinematography by Jose Aguayo Jr .The motion picture was professional but middlingly made by Luis Maria Delgado. He was a fine and prolific craftsman who wrote , produced and directed several films , many of them Landa vehicles as Cuando el cuerno sueno , Onofre , Obsesiones Armando , Profesor Eroticus , Guapo heredero busca esposa , El alcalde y la politica . Delgado directed mostly comedies as Señoritas de uniforme, Pepito Piscina, Monica Stop , Mirame con ojos pornograficos , Cuando Almanzor perdio su tambor , Loca por el circo , La tia de Carlos .But he also directed other genres as adventures : Adventures en las islas Cies, Flautista de Hamelin , Thriller : secuestro en la ciudad and a gay musical : Diferente, considered to be the best .
