- Policeman: [secretly enters the courtroom to meet with Wade and Sgt. Blake] I'm to take you out of here. Now.
- Lt. Wade: What's up?
- Policeman: Homicide. Slasher again.
- Lt. Wade: [to Blake] Makes five.
- Sgt. Blake: [to policeman] We can't leave the courtroom.
- Policeman: You've been on the stand yet?
- Lt. Wade: Yeah, but the D.A. may call me back again.
- Policeman: Look, the boss told me to get you the hell out of here.
- Lt. Wade: Do you want me to be cited for contempt?
- Attorney Cole: [to Charlie] Are you saying you were not informed of your constitutional rights?
- Charlie Nuts: I wasn't informed of nothing.
- [to the judge]
- Charlie Nuts: Nothing!
- Attorney Cole: And you signed a confession under duress?
- Charlie Nuts: What else could I do?
- [points to Wade]
- Charlie Nuts: That big one, Wade there, was strangling me and his partner Blake, over there, was crushing my head. What else am I going to do?
- [murmurs of concern are heard among the spectators as the judge gavels for order]
- Judge: [to the attorney] We seem to have a problem here.
- Attorney Cole: Your honor, in the Miranda case...
- Judge: [impatiently] I know all about the Miranda case!
- [to the crowd]
- Judge: I must interrupt these proceedings. This defendant has had his constitutional rights violated the moment he was arrested! Therefore, I find it cumbent upon me to suspend these proceedings and dismiss the case!
- Lt. Wade: [upon being asked what should be said to the reporters] You tell them that there are nine guys on that Supreme Court that have helped these bastards an awful lot.
