This hour long show consisted of a 12 minute Sabrina episode, followed by a 24 minute New Archies episode and a 12 minute 'Surprise Package' segment which could feature any of the cast. But, because of low ratings, the hour long show was split into two separate shows in November 1977 after just two months on the air. The Sabrina and Surprise package segments appeared in Sabrina, Super Witch (1977) while Archie's Bang-Shang Lalapalooza Show (1977) featured the longer Archie segments.
In 1968, the animation studio Filmation had licensed the rights of the core characters of Archie Comics. Over the following decade, Filmation had created several television series based on either Archie Andrews or Sabrina the teenage witch. In 1977, "The New Archie/Sabrina Hour" was the final original adaptation of the characters by Filmation. Filmation lost the rights to the characters within the next few years.
