Talk about a scary-good box office streak.
“The Conjuring: Last Rites,” which scored a franchise-best launch of $83 million domestically and $187 million globally over the weekend, has extended an epic theatrical run for Warner Bros. as the seventh consecutive release to open above $40 million. No other studio has ever achieved that level of consistency at the box office.
After a terrible theatrical stretch with duds like 2024’s “Joker: Folie a Deux” and this March’s “Mickey 17” and “The Alto Knights,” the fortunes at Warner Bros. began to rebound with April’s video game adaptation “A Minecraft Movie” ($162 million debut). The studio’s turnaround continued with Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s vampire thriller “Sinners” ($48 million), followed by a quartet of summer offerings, “Final Destination Bloodlines” ($51.6 million), Brad Pitt’s “F1: The Movie” ($57 million), “Superman” ($125 million) and director Zach Cregger’s horror mystery “Weapons” ($43.5 million).

Retro in interesting ways and visually luscious, 100 Nights of Hero represents a compelling if uneven sophomore effort from British writer-director Julia Jackman, swerving here from the affable comic 2000s-set realism of her debut, Bonus Track, into fantasy territory. Adapted by Jackman from Isabel Greenberg’s graphic novel of the same name, this queer, feminism-forward romance posits a quasi-medieval world where patriarchy is in full swing and women aren’t even supposed to know how to read or write.
Luckily, storytelling is still allowed. So maid Hero (Emma Corrin) uses her narrative skills to distract the household’s predatory guest, Manfred (Nicholas Galitzine, Red, White & Royal Blue), from his efforts to seduce her beloved lady of manor Cherry (Maika Monroe, Longlegs) when Cherry’s duplicitous husband Jerome (Amir El Masry) goes away on business. It’ll be hard for the Academy to resist “Sentimental Value.”
After finishing as runner-up to the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and now, making a quietly rapturous North American debut at Telluride, Joachim Trier’s Norwegian drama “Sentimental Value” is shaping up to be a formidable player in this year’s international Oscar race — and with the added potential to crack into all the top categories including best picture.
A tender yet unsparing exploration of generational trauma, creative legacy and emotional inheritance, “Sentimental Value” from Neon marks Trier’s return following his Oscar-nominated triumph “The Worst Person in the World” (2021), which landed him an original screenplay nomination. Co-written once again with longtime collaborator Eskil Vogt, the Norwegian auteur’s latest project reunites him with Renate Reinsve, the breakout star of “The Worst Person in the World,” and introduces a powerhouse ensemble including Elle Fanning,...

With a shaved head, expert line deliveries and the assembly of another all-time memorable character, Emma Stone continues driving this golden age of cinema. She might just be our modern-day Katharine Hepburn.
Greek auteur Yorgos Lanthimos, Oscar-nominated director of “Poor Things” and “The Favourite,” has fully stepped into his Alfred Hitchcock era with “Bugonia,” which represents a bold new realm for the filmmaker. At the Telluride Film Festival, executive director Julie Huntsinger introduced Jesse Plemons as “Jesse F***ing Plemons,” and the actor lived up to the billing in every way.
After debuting at the Venice Film Festival, Lanthimos’ wildly audacious “Bugonia” unveiled itself to audiences at the Werner Herzog Theatre. The dark comedy presents the best kind of problem for distributor Focus Features for this Oscar season: how to shepherd two powerhouse contenders (the other being “Hamnet”) through the long, unpredictable marathon of awards campaigning and determine which narrative...

It is not an original idea to make a movie about a movie star. Think Notting Hill, The Bodyguard, Tropic Thunder, America’s Sweethearts, A Star Is Born, Birdman, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Bowfinger. I could go on. The greatest film I ever saw about a star was Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s masterful All About Eve, even if that was set on Broadway. It came out the same year as another masterpiece set in the industry, Billy Wilder’s Sunset Boulevard, which showed the dark side of Hollywood when they decided they were done with you. “It’s the pictures that got small,” Norma Desmond utters after declaring she is still “big.”
Both are celebrating their 75th anniversary this year and remarkably are as fresh, even as perceptive, as when they were released. Eve still to this day shares the record for the most Oscar nominations with 14, winning six...

Emma Stone first graced the silver screen in a series of comedies, such as Superbad (2007), Zombieland (2009), and Easy A (2010). The latter performance, her first leading role, brought forth a breakthrough, leading swiftly to the romantic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love and the Oscar-winning period drama The Help, both in 2011.
In subsequent years, Stone cemented her stardom with a turn as Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and its 2014 sequel. Critical acclaim soon followed, receiving Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actress for portraying both fragile and fierce souls in Birdman (2014) and The Favourite (2018). The latter film marked her first of many collaborations with director Yorgos Lanthimos.

The Venice Film Festival is widely regarded as a launchpad for Oscar-winning films, with titles like Birdman (2014), Spotlight (2015), The Shape of Water (2017) and Nomadland (2020) all premiering there before going on to win Best Picture at the Oscars. This year’s festival kicks off Aug. 27. and brings back several acclaimed directors and stars with films expected to be major awards contenders.
Noah Baumbach premiered Marriage Story at Venice in 2019, which went on to earn six Oscar nominations and win Best Supporting Actress for Laura Dern. This year, Baumbach returns with Jay Kelly, starring George Clooney as an aging Hollywood star and Adam Sandler as his longtime manager.

James Cameron's career is packed with some of the best pieces of casting in modern cinematic history. Whether it's Arnold Schwarzenegger and Robert Patrick as the T-800 and T-1000 in the "Terminator" franchise, Lance Henriksen in "Aliens," or the entire ensemble of "Titanic" (but particularly its supporting cast), Cameron's films have helped launch and cement careers and faces in the public consciousness.
When it comes to Cameron's "Avatar" franchise, however, it's hard not to see at the "what ifs." After all, Cameron looked at names like Jake Gyllenhaal to play Jake Sully at one point before Gyllenhaal (like Matt Damon) turned down the role and a whole lot of money.

Antonio Sanchez knows how Hollywood sees him. In an industry that can focus too much on replicating the successes of the past, he — thanks to his improvisation-heavy work on Alejandro G. Iñárritu's Best Picture winner Birdman — is "the drum guy."
"I think that has been a little bit of my crux since I did Birdman," Sanchez tells Gold Derby. "That if you want drums, I'm the drum guy."
That kind of association has its pros and cons. What may sound pigeon-holing can also lead directly to jobs.
Such was the case with Sanchez landing the job on The Studio, Seth Rogen and Seth Goldberg's industry send-up, that landed...

Welcome to the Year of the Oners.
The three buzziest shows of the 2024-25 television season, the three shows atop the marquee categories at the Emmys — The Studio in comedy series, Severance in drama series, Adolescence in limited series — prominently feature continuous takes, the cinematic technique that, thanks to Seth Rogen, everyone now knows is called a oner.
Each series took a different approach to their one-shots, from painstakingly choreographed old-time execution to a more theatrical endeavor to a process that combined practical photography and digital magic. All required careful collaboration among director, cinematographer, and crew, and all were rewarded with Emmy nominations.
Here, in their own words, is how each team pulled off their award-worthy oners.
The Studio: ‘It was very real, and it got very meta’

Actress Emma Stone (“Bugonia”) poses for the September 2025 issue of “Vogue” magazine, wearing Louis Vuitton, photographed by Jamie Hawkesworth:
Stone made her television debut in the show "In Search of the New Partridge Family" (2004), a reality show that produced only an unsold pilot.

This breakthrough was followed with further success in the romantic comedy "Crazy, Stupid, Love" (2011) and the drama "The Help" (2011).
In 2012 she played 'Gwen Stacy' in "The Amazing Spider-Man" and its sequel in 2014.
She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the role of a recovering drug addict in the black comedy-drama "Birdman" (2014).

After Weapons, Zach Cregger has set up an array of ambitious films, including a Resident Evil adaptation and an original thriller made in the same tone and style as Nightcrawler [Culture Crave]. While the movie is not designed as a direct successor to Jake Gyllenhaal’s 2014 film, it will surely be a spiritual sequel to the cult hit.
The director hasn’t revealed exclusive details about these projects yet, though the fans are invested in seeing what he brings to the table next. Given the success of Weapons at the box office, there is no doubt as to Zach Cregger’s authority over the horror genre. Even so, his Nightcrawler-inspired movie remains the most anticipated of all the projects currently in the pipeline.

Regrets, Josh Brolin might have a few. In the eclectic career of the former Goonie, "Jonah Hex" is a major one that the actor has listed multiple times as a disaster, knowing exactly how and where it went wrong. There were some opportunities, however, that were right there for the taking that the Oscar-nominated actor turned down, such as Alejandro G. Iñárritu's "Birdman." The 2014 one-take story about a failed movie star getting a second chance on stage was another outstanding performance in the Michael Keatonaissance. It wasn't the leading Birdman's role he missed out on, though, rather the self-indulgent, dillweed of an actor, Mike, played in the film by Edward Norton.
During his appearance on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, Brolin recalled being offered the role that went to Norton, saying, "I love that film. This happens all the time, you know?" But while Brolin might still have...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has done lots of good for the movie industry, as both a business and an art form. Most notably, since the first ceremony in 1929, they annually honor a crop of the year's best films with the Academy Awards, colloquially known as the Oscars. These awards are often wonderful barometers of cinematic quality, drawing audiences toward films they might've otherwise never seen. But sometimes -- or, depending on your point of view, quite often -- the Academy gets it wrong. They ignore what's obviously the superior film of the year in favor of something milquetoast, suspect, or otherwise overrated.
Some of these notable films, whose wins almost immediately received cultural asterisks, include "Green Book," "Crash," and "Driving Miss Daisy." But others still need a touch of critical drubbing, and today is the day to humble these disproportionately honored flicks. With all this in mind,...

Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite (2019) created history at the 92nd Academy Awards, becoming the first foreign-language film to win Best Picture, along with its other three wins- Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Film. It also became the first South Korean film to win the highest prize at the Cannes Film Festival- the coveted Palme d’Or. If you have seen Parasite, you know there isn’t quite a film like the genre-defying, thrilling saga of two families, distinguished by class structures, coming together under the same roof. For those who haven’t seen it, still get prepared to be floored.

If you want to prove that "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is one of the most consistently strong sitcoms ever made, you can point to how its best-rated episode came as far into its run as season 10. "Charlie Work," directed by the same guy behind the new "Fantastic Four" movie, is rated a 9.8 out of 10 on IMDb. This is the same rating as the beloved episode "Blink" from "Doctor Who," and a point above "The Suitcase" from "Mad Men."
Those latter two episodes, the best of their respective shows, notably take place in season 3 and 5, not too far into their series' run. Most shows don't even make it to season 10, and they're definitely not churning out all-time best episodes by the time they're there. The only exception is probably "South Park" or "Saturday Night Live," and neither of them are quite in the same genre as "Always Sunny."

Italy’s Prada Foundation has announced it is mounting a film installation by Oscar-winning Mexican director Alejandro G. Iñárritu to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his first feature “Amores Perros.” The Mexico City-set triptych starred Gael García Bernal in his breakout role and won the Critics’ Week Award at Cannes Film Festival.
Titled “Sueño Perro: A Film Installation by Alejandro G. Iñárritu,” the piece will unveil plenty of previously unseen footage from the visceral film, which weaves together three stories connected by a car crash. It delves into Mexico City’s underbelly through the tales of a teenager who gets involved in dogfighting, a model who loses a leg in the car crash and a troubled hitman.
The installation will be unveiled on Sept. 18 at the Prada Foundation’s Milan headquarters. It will then travel to the LagoAlgo cultural center in Mexico City — where it will be on display from Oct.

Mix in a dash of Mike Leigh and a sprinkling of Hitchcock suspense and you have an approximation of the atmosphere of this odd couple tale from Paul Andrew Williams who previously gave us the noir drama London To Brighton and revenge thriller Bull.
It starts off amiably enough by describing the mundane existence of 80-year-old Elsie (Brenda Blethyn almost unrecognisable from her Vera persona) and her neighbour Colleen (Birdman’s Andrea Riseborough) who offers to help after social services fall far short.
Both women share a common bond in that they have been consigned to the fringes of society yet seem to rub along - Elsie doesn’t like to make fuss, while Colleen’s precise motives remain unclear although it’s doubtful if she is purely altruistic in her intentions.

Tom Cruisemight be the biggest movie star in the world at the moment, but it seems that doesn't mean studios are still not reluctant to fulfill his big-budget action endeavors. Despite the Mission: Impossible franchise ending earlier this year, Cruise is not slowing down anytime soon, as he has an undersea thriller set up with Doug Liman at the helm as his next major project. However, it seems fans will have to wait longer for it to come to fruition, as the major studio backing has seemingly pulled out.

Oscar winner Susan Sarandon said she’s “terrified but excited” to be making her UK stage debut this fall at London’s The Old Vic Theatre starring with Academy Award nominee Andrea Riseborough in the U.K. premiere of Tracy Letts’ play Mary Page Marlowe which spans 70 years in a woman’s life.
Sarandon and Riseborough will play the title character at different stages of her story.
The production will be directed by The Old Vic’s artistic director Matthew Warchus in his final season before stopping down in September 2026.
Sarandon has appeared both on and off Broadway several times beginning with An Evening with Richard Nixon and … that ran 16 performances at the Shubert Theatre in 1972. She last trod the boards in NYC in Jesse Eisenberg’s Happy Talk at the Pershing Square Signature center in 2019.
I saw her in Eisenberg’s play.

With strong reviews and a massive marketing push from Apple, F1: The Movie seems to be speeding toward the finish line for first place at the weekend box office. But could the summer tentpole make a showing at the end of the year in the Oscar race?
The movie's pedigree certainly suggests it could follow the route of another high-velocity hit of recent years. With Joseph Kosinski in the director's chair and Jerry Bruckheimer producing, Top Gun: Maverick is an easy parallel to draw for how the Brad Pitt-led vehicle could make an impact in awards season.
But in which categories could it be competitive? The lightning in a bottle magic of Maverick seems to be missing from the reactions to F1 thus far, so Screenplay and Picture seem like a stretch at the moment. But with some familiar names below the line, several craft categories could definitely be within reach.

Everyone has their favorite member of the gang on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," but downtrodden, illiterate janitor Charlie Kelly (Charlie Day) is easily the heart of the crew. He's a stalker who once gave a man a box of live hornets as a "gift," so he's not exactly the best guy in the world, but he's still somehow the least terrible person in the gang and tends to engage in the silliest escapades. Every so often, we're even treated to a Charlie-centric episode, like the absolutely incredible "Birdman"-inspired outing "Charlie Work" from season 10 or his time as a scientific study participant in "Flowers for Charlie" in season 9.
Eventually, in season 14, we got another truly hilarious Charlie episode in the shape of "The Janitor Always Mops Twice." There have been a few times where the series has deviated from its standard format to play around with movie or TV...

Multi Oscar winning producer New Regency has entered into a partnership with Los Angeles investment firm Shamrock Capital, whose Shamrock Content Strategy is taking a participation in the studio’s 35-year-old plus film and television library.
In addition, a standalone production credit facility was entered into by New Regency’s production arm to borrow in connection with new film, television, and media projects—including building on its past IP to create innovative content, alongside a new credit facility supporting its library. These credit facilities are provided by JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A.
The partnership with Shamrock relates solely to the New Regency library participation and will not be used to fund the production arm. Also note, Shamrock isn’t taking an equity stake here in the New Regency library, rather it’s a long-term commitment in the studio’s library cash flows.

Tom Cruise will receive an honorary Oscar, ahead of a 2026 movie for which he already has hopes of another acting nomination. Over his career, Cruise has received four Oscar nominations for his performances in Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, Magnolia, and a Best Picture nod for producing Top Gun: Maverick. However, he has never won one of the industry's most prestigious awards. In recent years, Cruise has become known for performing incredible stunts in Mission: Impossible, though the Oscars won't be adding a stunt category until 2028.
Now, Cruise will be receiving his very first Oscar. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that Cruise will be the recipient of an honorary Oscar later this year. The award will be presented at the Academy's Governors Awards event on Sunday, November 16 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood. Academy President Janet Yang shared the following quote...

Sam Rockwell is singing the praises of “Sinners.” The “White Lotus” actor told Variety that “Sinners” succeeding at the box office is a beacon of hope for Hollywood.
“It was encouraging because it was rated R, you know? The sexuality felt palpable,” Rockwell said. “And the fact that it made a bunch of money while mixing all these genres — ‘From Dusk Till Dawn,’ ‘Sounder,’ ‘Devil in a Blue Dress’ — I thought that was encouraging. It’s a big swing. And it made a lot of money, just like ‘Wonder Woman.’ That was a big swing, too. Made by a woman [Patty Jenkins]. Did very well.”
Rockwell compared “Sinners” to Academy Award-winning films that also transcended genre. “‘Birdman’ is another one. On paper, you’d think, ‘That movie’s not going to do anything.’ But it was amazing,” he said. “Same with ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.’ Everybody turned it down — Gene Hackman,...

Tom Cruise and George Clooney may seem to have little in common except for this: Pushing through their mid-60s, the two stars proved this year that it’s possible to defy the odds and create strong third acts for their acting careers. And to relish the risks.
Clooney’s Broadway foray was a major success and so was its debut on CNN over the weekend. Having filled its theater for a month, Good Night, and Good Luck was re-invented as live theater on TV. For Clooney, it was a welcome turnaround: Only a year earlier, his popcorn movie with Brad Pitt (Wolfs) had tanked, and he was hearing rumbles about his politics and personal life.
Cruise’s eighth Mission: Impossible re-awakened the global box office yet again, even invading the Guinness Book of Records (do they really chart burning parachute jumps?). But a year ago, his budget was drifting...

Sometimes it takes a 60-piece orchestra to effectively score a series; sometimes it takes just a single musician.
Those extremes are illustrated by two of this season’s most popular shows: the Apple TV+ satirical series “The Studio,” whose innovative percussion score is the work of Antonio Sanchez; and the acclaimed Disney+ drama “Andor,” which concludes the “Star Wars” origins-of-the-Rebellion saga with new music by Brandon Roberts.
Sanchez’s one-man band is a fun element of the Hollywood showbiz sendup “The Studio.” He didn’t know showrunners Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg prior to this, but it turned out they were using his all-drums score for the 2014 film “Birdman” as a temporary soundtrack for “The Studio” and liking what they were hearing.
“They sent me the first episode, and I could see that what was working for them was the percussion, the timing and the rhythm,” Sanchez says. His years...

Released in 2009, "Zombieland" stands out as one of the best horror comedy films out there. Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the film featured Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin as four survivors of a zombie apocalypse who embark on a perilous, hilarious, and surprisingly heartfelt road trip that includes a few notable sequences, including a surprise run-in with comedy icon Bill Murray.
Although Jesse Eisenberg's Columbus serves as the narrator of "Zombieland," Woody Harrelson's Tallahassee is undoubtedly the film's breakout character. The Twinkie-obsessed survivor who finds glee in fending off zombies stands out as one of the most memorable characters in Harrelson's decorated career, and this includes his Emmy-winning turn as Woody Boyd in "Cheers" and three Academy Award-nominated performances. Interestingly enough, Harrelson had four conditions when it came to signing on for the film. While the first...

Wes Anderson is the singularly talented filmmaker who has quickly gone from indie darling to Oscar favorite in just a little over two decades, creating a number of quirky, visually splendid classics. Let's take a look back at all 12 of Anderson's films, ranked worst to best.
Anderson made his directorial debut with "Bottle Rocket" (1996), released when he was just 27-years-old. He received his first Oscar nomination five years later: Best Original Screenplay for "The Royal Tenenbaums" (2001). He followed that eight years later with a Best Animated Feature bid for the stop-motion film "Fantastic Mr. Fox" (2009). Another Best Original Screenplay nomination followed for "Moonrise Kingdom" (2012). Then he hit the Oscar jackpot with Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay nominations for "The Grand Budapest Hotel" (2014) -- well, almost hit the jackpot, since he went home empty-handed from those awards, losing all three to Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for "Birdman." Tom Cruise may have just raced a motorbike off a cliff and parachuted into another death-defying Mission: Impossible, but make no mistake, Final Reckoning isn’t the grand finale of his adrenaline-fueled career. In fact, it feels more like an intermission. After decades of redefining what it means to be an action star, Cruise is gearing up for yet another era of cinematic dominance. And judging by the slate of projects in motion, he’s nowhere near ready to hand in his aviators or motorcycle helmet.
With Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning set to bring Ethan Hunt’s saga to a possible close, you might think Cruise would finally take a breather. But no, this is Tom Cruise we’re talking about. The man doesn’t rest; he reboots, reinvents, and returns to the cockpit (sometimes literally). From flying high again in Top Gun 3, to revisiting NASCAR glory in a Days of Thunder sequel,...

I tend to think of “therapy through filmmaking” as a bad thing, by which I mean that artists with unresolved personal issues would do better to sort those matters out in private. Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value” offers an inspiring exception, where the psychological health of its two main characters — filmmaker Gustav Borg (Stellan Skarsgård) and his estranged daughter Nora (Renate Reinsve) — winds up inextricably tied up with a film project Gustav meant for them to make together. If it works here, that’s because we’re not obliged to watch Gustav’s movie, but the emotional behind-the-scenes story of reconciliation through art.
While not as stylistically radical as Trier’s last film, “The Worst Person in the World,” this layered family-centric drama (which was also written by Eskil Vogt) shares its ability to find fresh angles on sentiments you’d think that cinema would have exhausted by now. Chief...

With Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning just around the corner, Tom Cruise will risk life and limb once more for our viewing pleasure, but his next project, a collaboration with acclaimed director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, promises to be a very different kind of ride.
The film, tentatively titled Judy, recently wrapped production in London. In a conversation with THR, Iñárritu offered a tantalizing glimpse into the project, revealing that it will showcase a rarely seen side of Cruise — his comedic chops.

Before composer Antonio Sanchez officially came on board to score “The Studio,” the new Hollywood satire show from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the episodes were already using his “Birdman” score as temp music.
So when Sanchez sat down with Rogen and Goldberg, it only took about 15 minutes of chatting before they were sold on working together. “The one thing that ‘Birdman’ brought is the impression that maybe I’m a little bit of a one-trick pony because it was a four-time Oscar winning movie. So people think of me and they just think drums,” Sanchez tells Variety.
Working on “The Studio,” then, became the perfect opportunity for Sanchez to show off more of his range.
Sanchez got started right away on the music for Continental Studio’s films, expanding his soundscape to horns, strings and percussion across all ten episodes. As someone who was brought up as a jazz musician,...

Tom Cruise's next movie will show off his "unprecedented" range and leave stunts behind, the director reveals. In February 2024, it was announced that Cruise was set to star in a new film from Alejandro G. In recent years, Cannes’ increasingly standardized custom of drawn-out standing ovations — subject of sneers as well as sympathy — has received much attention: explained as sociology, critiqued as pathology. But as the 78th annual film festival gets underway, and the trend shows no sign of abatement, it’s worth considering the signal behind all the noise. The unrelenting, excessive applause isn’t just joyous. Underneath, it’s desperate, and a revealing indicator of the decline of what’s ostensibly being celebrated.
Which is to say, the ovations aren’t mere vexation. They’re damnation.
This extended cheering, reminiscent of rallies in authoritarian regimes, has been normalized and fanned by a couple of key institutional factors. First, at the conclusion of each premiere, the festival’s in-house production crew projects the faces of the director and their actors on the Palais’ big screen. The camera effect encourages everyone in the theatre to perform mania.

“American Love Story,” Ryan Murphy’s upcoming FX series following the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, has found two of its major players: Naomi Watts will play Jackie Kennedy, while newcomer Paul Kelly leads the series as JFK Jr.
They join the cast alongside Sarah Pidgeon, who was previously announced to be playing Bessette-Kennedy.

Will some serious star power reinvigorate the Cannes Film Market?
That’s the big question facing sales agents as studios and streamers hit the Croisette on the prowl for compelling new movies. At Sundance, Berlin and Toronto, the movie business seemed to be in the throes of a massive contraction. Having spent freely while launching their own in-house challengers to Netflix, studios like Warner Bros., Disney and Paramount, along with their indie brethren, were in full-on cost-cutting mode. Complicating matters was the fact that after being burned by overspending for projects and packages at festivals in the past, tech giants like Apple and Amazon have instead concentrated on producing in-house content. That left many filmmakers still searching for distribution long after the crowds dispersed.
But there’s something about the sunshine — or maybe the free-flowing rosé — in the South of France that always leads to a bidding war or two.

It’s Hollywood’s biggest plot twist: some of the most iconic stars have never won an Oscar. Yep, while they’ve given us chills, tears, and popcorn-worthy performances, the Academy has kept the golden guy just out of reach. We’re talking multiple nominations, standing ovations, and still no shiny statue. From the always-brilliant Glenn Close to the ever-charismatic Bradley Cooper, these stars are walking proof that talent doesn’t always equal trophies.
And let’s be real, some of these actors have delivered performances so legendary, they make Oscar wins look like consolation prizes. So grab your popcorn and cue the dramatic music, because this is the ultimate list of A-listers who keep slaying the screen, statue or not. The Oscars may be gold, but these stars? Pure platinum.

“You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth!” Sure, that line belongs to Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men, but if you’ve ever watched Tom Cruise stare down Australian journalist Peter Overton like he was about to laser-beam him into next week, you’d think Cruise wrote it himself.
Yes, I still remember that 2000 interview like it was yesterday: Cruise, calm but coiled, like a lion in a silk suit, telling Overton to “put your manners back in.” I didn’t just flinch; I froze. That wasn’t a man answering questions; that was a psychological grenade with a press smile.
And now, with Alejandro G. Iñárritu casting Cruise in a role where he tries to save the world but ends up wrecking it? Goosebumps. Real ones! If Cruise leans into that Overton energy, we’re in for something Oscar-worthy, maybe even Magnolia-level magic. Or mayhem.
