  • Yuma prison warden: [Shakes Lozoya awake on his shoulder] Hey.
  • [Lozoya groans blearily]
  • Yuma prison warden: Get up.
  • Max Lozoya: Let me sleep. It's too early for a hanging.
  • Yuma prison warden: C'mon. You're leaving. They're waiting for you outside.
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: Even a bandit like you can save his soul if he does a good deed.
  • Max Lozoya: What do you mean?
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: Like donating something to the poor.
  • Max Lozoya: Father, I've been told that when a man takes a bath, he doesn't only wash his head, he starts at his feet and works upwards. If you want me to clean my soul, you have to start from the beginning, right?
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: Right.
  • Max Lozoya: When I was fourteen, some skunk stole my tortillas. But I got 'em back.
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: That's no sin.
  • Max Lozoya: Then I killed him.
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: That's a sin. Continue.
  • Max Lozoya: When I was fifteen, some idiot called me a son of a bitch, so I...
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: ...so you killed him.
  • Max Lozoya: How do you know?
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: Because I can tell you're very consistent. Continue.
  • Max Lozoya: When I was sixteen, I...
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: How old are you, Lozoya?
  • Max Lozoya: I'll be... forty five.
  • Max Lozoya: [Beckoning to Dmitri to make their escape from prison] C'mon, c'mon!
  • [Tries to haul himself up a rope, but just can't]
  • Max Lozoya: Goddamn prison made a wreck out of me. I'm so weak with my back.
  • [Dmitri tries to give Lozoya a boost up by the rear, and Lozoya yelps in surprise]
  • Max Lozoya: I'm a Mexican.
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: So what?
  • Max Lozoya: Nobody touches my ass. It just don't happen. You got that, gringo?
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: Got it.
  • [Lozoya turns to climb the rope again, and Dmitri knees him sharply in the behind]
  • Max Lozoya: [Close to drowning in a well, surrounded by Mendoza's men] FIRE, YOU SONS OF BITCHES!
  • [submerges, but resurfaces when he realizes that the men have been killed by Orlowsky, and so struggles to stay afloat]
  • Max Lozoya: Help me. Help me! Help!
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: How nice to see you.
  • Max Lozoya: I- I left you in the tavern so you wouldn't be exposed to Mendoza!
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: Oh. You are very generous. That's why you put that watch in my pocket, huh?
  • Max Lozoya: That's true. That's true.
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: It's so hot here.
  • Max Lozoya: Help me, my friend! Help me!
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: You needed a bath. You stink like a goat.
  • [Pulls Lozoya up, but not out of the well]
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: You wanted to talk to Mendoza alone.
  • Max Lozoya: Who, me? Oh, no, not me.
  • [Orlowsky drops him back into the well. Lozoya continues to splash and splutter]
  • Max Lozoya: He-help me, my friend! Help me!
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: Swim.
  • Max Lozoya: I can't! I can't swim!
  • [He gasps for breath]
  • Max Lozoya: Help!
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: [Pulls Lozoya up again] You wanted to screw me, didn't you?
  • Max Lozoya: I swear! I swear! No!
  • [Is given a warning dunk back into the water, but he resurfaces]
  • Max Lozoya: Yes! Yes, I wanted to screw you!
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: Ungrateful.
  • [Strikes Lozoya across the face]
  • Max Lozoya: [Kneels down before his sister Lupita's body and heaves a heavy, trembling sigh] I wanna kill as many regulares... as there are hairs on my sister's head.
  • Mexican Rider: [to Lozoya, without looking at him] I want to speak with you. You're not El Salvador.
  • [Lozoya almost walks past him. He stops and turns to face him]
  • Max Lozoya: Who are you?
  • Mexican Rider: I am one of the few people surviving, who knew El Salvador.
  • Max Lozoya: But listen-!
  • Mexican Rider: It's alright. Mexico needs a flag. It's important El Salvador lives. Even in one like you.
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: What's going on?
  • Max Lozoya: Nothing.
  • [He pauses]
  • Max Lozoya: I'm a Mexican flag!
  • Max Lozoya: [tied to Orlowsky with leather thongs by Huerta's men] Hey, amigo.
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: Hm?
  • Max Lozoya: What do you hate most to leave behind in this goddamn world?
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: $200,000 to afford.
  • [Lozoya grunts in an I-had-to-ask manner]
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: What about you?
  • Max Lozoya: Nothing. Oh, yes. My sister, and Miguelito. I won't see them anymore.
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: Don't be so sure.
  • Max Lozoya: What the hell do you think'll save us?
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: [seeing Mary sneaking in to rescue them] If you can't be an optimist, don't be a bandit.
  • [Lozoya and Orlowsky are fleeing Yuma Prison. Lozoya stops suddenly]
  • Max Lozoya: I can't! I can't, I'm out of shape. My liver's bad. I can't see. I'm blind as a bat!
  • [Orlowsky grabs Lozoya by the suspender and drags him along]
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: If you don't hurry, you'll be a dead blind bat! Come on!
  • Prince Dmitri Vassilovich Orlowsky: Tell us your political ideas, El Salvador!
  • Max Lozoya: [Nervously] Friends! The foreigners are all sons of...
  • [Orlowsky clears his throat. Still nervous, Lozoya continues]
  • Max Lozoya: ... sons of their mothers. It's time they stop fooling us. In Mexico... I am your leader!
  • [He shows the crowd the medal Mary had adorned him with]
  • Max Lozoya: In my revolution, all the jails will be closed and all the banks will be open.
  • [the crowd goes wild]
  • Max Lozoya: I want to say that everyone will be able to steal from the banks and be rich. The rich will have to share their money with me... No, the rich will have to give their money to the poor. Viva la revolution!
  • [the crowd cheers again]
  • Max Lozoya: Viva!
  • Max Lozoya: Amigos, go back to your wives.
  • Crowd: We are bachelors.
  • Old Peasant: ...We are bachelors.
  • Max Lozoya: They got iron covered trucks. I never seen the virgin daughter of a bank president so well protected.
  • [Orlowsky grabs him by his jacket and drags him into the bushes]
  • Max Lozoya: A hat? I've heard of a man dying with his boots on, but a hat?
