Joan O’Brien, the actress and singer who shared a submarine with Cary Grant in Operation Petticoat and a romantic relationship with Elvis Presley in It Happened at the World’s Fair, has died. She was 89.

O’Brien’s death was confirmed Wednesday by her daughter, Melissa, in a brief phone call with The Hollywood Reporter. She did not wish to provide any details.

A onetime contract player at MGM, O’Brien also appeared alongside John Wayne in The Alamo (1960) and The Comancheros (1961) and starred in four films released in 1962: It’s Only Money, Six Black Horses, We Joined the Navy and Samar, opposite Jerry Lewis, Audie Murphy, Kenneth More and George Montgomery, respectively.

After making her big-screen debut as the girlfriend of Dean Jones’ overzealous law student in the drama Handle With Care (1958), O’Brien played the embarrassingly clumsy Second Lieutenant Dolores Crandall in the World War II comedy Operation Petticoat (1959), directed by Blake Edwards.

Screen veteran Glynis Johns, who very memorably played Mrs. Banks in the beloved movie Mary Poppins, has died.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Johns passed away on Thursday at an assisted living facility in West Hollywood. Her passing was confirmed by her manager, Mitch Clem. Johns, who officially became the oldest living Disney Legend following Betty White's passing in 2021, was 100 years old.

Johns, considered to have been one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood, had an impressive career with more than eight decades spent in show business, having portrayed dozens of characters on stage and on the screen. One of her most well-known roles is as Winifred Banks, the feminist mother of Jane (Karen Dotrice) and Michael (Matthew Garber), and wife of George Banks (David Tomlinson). Jack Ging, the familiar character actor who recurred on such series as Tales of Wells Fargo, Mannix, Riptide and The A-Team and appeared in three films opposite Clint Eastwood, has died. He was 90.

Ging died Friday of natural causes at his home in La Quinta, California, his wife, Apache Ging, told The Hollywood Reporter.

In rare starring turns, Ging played the love interest of Diane Baker’s character in a remake of Tess of the Storm Country (1960), a soldier and reluctant hero in the waning days of the Korean War in the drama Sniper’s Ridge (1961) and a clinical psychiatrist on the 1962-64 NBC medical series The Eleventh Hour.

William Reynolds, who portrayed crime-stopping Special Agent Tom Colby opposite Efrem Zimbalist Jr. on the final seven seasons of the ABC crime drama The F.B.I., has died. He was 90.

Reynolds died Wednesday in Wildomar, California, from non-covid 19 complicated pneumonia, a family spokesperson announced.

The Los Angeles native also starred in three other series, all short-lived: as the trumpet player on the 1959 NBC drama Pete Kelly’s Blues, created by Jack Webb; on ABC’s The Islanders, a 1960-61 adventure show set in the East Indies; and on the World War II-set The Gallant Men, which ran on ABC from 1962-63.

In 1960, Reynolds memorably played a WWII officer who can’t ignore an ominous light on the faces of his men destined to be killed in the acclaimed Twilight Zone season-one episode “The Purple Testament.”
