Director Herschell Gordon Lewis cited Roger Corman's Um Balde de Sangue (1959) as the main inspiration for Color Me Blood Red.
Filmed and completed in early 1964, but remained on the shelf for over a year over production, editing, and sales release issues after producer David F. Friedman terminated his business partnership with director Herschell Gordon Lewis.
Color Me Blood Red (1965) was among many titles released in Turkey during the 80's home video craze (mostly on Betamax, before VHS became more popular), along with many other obscure titles that collectors would be hard pressed to find anywhere, let alone in a conservative country like Turkey, such as Maníacos (1964), O Último Pesadelo (1983) and even A Noite dos Mil Demônios (1972). However, both the cassette label and the box featured the title as "Color Me Blood", omitting the word "Red".
