A clip of Rae saying goodbye to Paul the marine is featured at the beginning of Stevie Wonder's "Part-Time Lover" music video as a couple watches "Back Street" on TV.
John Gavin and Vera Miles play husband and wife in this film, however, it marks their reunion just one year after playing Janet Leigh's boyfriend and sister, respectively, in Alfred Hitchock's iconic thriller, Psicose (1960).
The world premier was in Hollywood at the Warner Theater (later the Pacific Cinerama Theater) at 6433 Hollywood Blvd. A picture postcard was made showing a photograph of the opening night scene of "Back Street". The image with searchlights, cars, and crowds was depicted as a "typical Hollywood scene".
According to contemporary articles in the Los Angeles Times and Daily Variety, Vera Miles suffered multiple injuries during this production. She had multiple bruises from falling down a flight of stairs in thirty takes for one scene. She also incurred more bruises and a cut lip in a scene where she went through breakaway glass with too much force.
