The roller skate Chilly sets out was a popular children's item in the postwar baby boom era. The skates were clamped onto the wearer's street shoes and adjusted with a skate key.
The cartoon was first shown on Pica-Pau e Seus Amigos (1957) and later on The New Woody Woodpecker Show, where it was digitally remastered and renamed "A Classic Chilly Cartoon".
Charlie the polar bear sings the lullaby "Rock a bye Baby" in its entirety eight times over the course of the film.
This is the only Chilly Willy cartoon to be nominated for an Academy Award.
