Leon Schlesinger disliked the ending Tex Avery had created and simply cut it out. Bugs and Willoughby were to have walked off yet another cliff as Bugs shouted to the audience, "Hold on to your hats, folks! Here we go again!" Instead, the cartoon ends with Bugs sticking out his tongue and saying, "Nyah, fooled ya, didn't we?" and Willoughby replying, "Yeah."

Schlesinger's decision led Avery to leave Warner Bros. for MGM.

In the following films (usually a Warner Bros. cartoon), a hunter thinks he's killed the animal he was hunting and immediately breaks down in agony of remorse.

Coelho Difícil de Ser Apanhado (1941) (1941)

Willoughby thinks he's crushed Bugs Bunny, but it was only a tomato.

O Concerto dos Patos (1943) (1943)

Porky Pig is a hunter in this parody of "Tales from the Vienna Woods." He hopes to shoot Bugs Bunny; but when a chipmunk does it for him, he bitterly regrets it. Even his dog weeps in time to Strauss's music.

Que Ópera, Velhinho? (1957) (1957)

A weeping Elmer Fudd thinks he's killed Bugs Bunny at the end of this Wagner parody--and he really has. "What do you expect from an opera?" Bugs asks, breaking character. "A happy ending?"

Some TV prints cut out Willoughby's last line (which is simply, "Yeah"). Incidentally, this film's first censor was not a TV distributor, but Leon Schlesinger, the head of the Warner Bros. cartoon studio. See the FAQ entry above.
