- Policeman: There's their gun, sir.
- Inspector: [softly, after examining Kathleen's tiny revolver] Two shots fired.
- Policeman: Yes sir. That's when we had to fire back.
- [the ship that was to have carried Johnny and Kathleen to safety blasts its horn mournfully as the clock strikes twelve midnight]
- [the police are closing in on Johnny and Kathleen]
- Johnny McQueen: Kathleen, where are you?
- Kathleen Sullivan: It's all right, Johnny. I'm here.
- Kathleen Sullivan: Is it far?
- Johnny McQueen: It's a long way, Johnny, but I'm coming with you. We're going away together.
- [Kathleen pulls a small pistol from her pocket and fires a couple of random shots. The police respond with a hail of gunfire]
