Seeds of Destiny

This short film is a tiny glimpse into the way the world was in 1945 and 1946--a small window where the world was assessing all the carnage and destruction of WWII but where there was also a certain hopefulness that would soon disappear with the Cold War. The film begins with the narrator (Ralph Bellamy) discussing the evils of the Third Reich and their desire to pull the world down around them. To a much smaller extent, the Japanese are discussed. Then, the foundations for peace and hope are outlined--ultimately culminating in the creation of the United Nations. According to the film, this organization will prevent future wars, ensure peace and create brotherhood. Sadly, time has shown that wars and hatred were NOT eliminated by the UN and the film's earnestness is a sad testament to the hope that we'd have learned something from WWII. While it's all very sad, it IS a nice chance for historians to look into what could have been. Reasonably well made and interesting but certainly not a film for everyone.
