Before a verbal History quiz, Bonedust sells answers to his classmates which he assures them are correct. "I got 'em out of a book." The answers, however, are disastrous, and Miss Crabtree insists on knowing where they came from. Bonedust shows her the book where he found them. A small line at the top of the cover page identifies it as "No.12 New Minstrel and Black Face Joke Book," an actual dime-store "pulp" book published by I. & M. Ottenheimer of Baltimore in 1907.
Mary Ann Jackson's answer to the question of "What did George Washington say, when crossing the Delaware?" is a reference to the Helen Kane song "What Did Cleopatra Say?", which was introduced in Paramount em Grande Gala (1930).
Mary Ann Jackson tells Miss Crabtree (June Marlowe) in one scene, "We hope you don't get married until you're 80 years old." Sadly, that's how old June Marlowe was when she died in 1984.

In real life, June Marlowe, who played Miss Crabtree, married Hollywood businessman Rodney Sprigg on July 2, 1933, when she was thirty, and thereafter retired from motion pictures to become a housewife. They had a long marriage, whereby she outlived him by one year, seven months and eight days.
