Intubation (tube in one's throat) is an intensely painful and distressing procedure when the patient is conscious. The patient is almost always anaesthetised because their ability to tolerate it is so poor. When Roman's character wakes up in hospital having been intubated, he is very calm and appears to be in no discomfort at all. This is not realistic.
