The Minamata Convention on Mercury The level of mercury pollution has risen 20% in the last five years and the mercury is rising at unprecedented rate. Toxicity is a modern epidemic and requires a global solution.I have been part of this health and environmental initiative for the last 8 years. I visited Minamata in Japan to honour the victims and attend the Diplomatic Conference, witnessing 128 countries on the 10th of October, 2013 commit their governments to addressing the serious threat of mercury pollution.

February is incorrect, at least for USA, where it wasn't released until Dec. 2021, which should explain it.

There can be many reasons for why a movie's release is postponed, but that infamous global pandemic does seem a likely candidate here, since there was a limited selection of cinemas even open at that time. Depp's very hyped "departure" from another film around that time could also have been a consideration, with a release too soon after that being deemed too risky. And then, the Academy Awards having been pretty much cancelled in 2021 could have quite plausibly factored into the decision, but of course all of the above is speculations. In any case, the film has now been released (at an optimum time for the 2022 Academy Awards, fancy that for a coincidence) in the States as well as Europe.
