Wu-Tang: An American Saga

One of the best hip-hop groups ever!

Wu-Tang: An American Saga follows how this hall of fame rap group came together in 1990's New York as they were torn between their music and their lives of crime. It paints their world so convincingly that it sucks you in like you were there. It stars mostly unknown actors who do such a great job that they really make you believe they are the characters their portraying. Wu's legacy is one of the best hip-hop groups ever created and this show tells the amazing and powerful story of how they became the legends they are! It's powerful to see them overcome all they had to to become the success story they are. It really is inspirational, you don't even have to be a fan of theirs to like this show but if you are then it's just that much better.

A genuinely great show

Firstly you don't need to be a hip hop fan to enjoy this show. I'm English, I'm white and I'm over 50 so I'm probably as far removed from the "stereotypical" target demographic you can get. This show is brilliant, it's a genuine drama that shows just how hard it must be to actually break through even if you have the talent the members of Wu-Tang Clan have.

Obviously I've no idea how close to the truth this story is, what's been left out or what's been added in creatively to enhance the overall story. But if even half of this is true then it's an incredible story.

The show doesn't have a single bad actor in it, everyone brings the character they play to life and despite the fact that at the start of the show the individuals aren't exactly "good" you get the sense that the criminal activities were more of a situation of circumstance rather than wanting to be gangsters.

You can tell I like this show, I know how enthusiastic I must sound but trust me it's worth the hype. I'm just at the end of season 2 and I truly hope we get another season.

Let's hope the actors that have brought Wu-Tang Clan to the screen so brilliantly all go on the have huge careers.

Loving this show already!!!!

I've personally met Ghostface and Raekwon together. I would never thought there journey with one another started out the way it did.

Who's who: D-Love - Ghostface Killah, Sha - Raekwon, Ason/Unique - ODB, Shotgun - Method Man, Gary/Allah Justice - GZA, Bobby - RZA

Can it be that it was all so simple then?

Wow, just finished episode three and I gotta say, this show stands on it's own merits. Granted, its not The Wire but the story would be interesting whether or not it was the origin of Wu-Tang (artistic license aside). That being said, if you know your lore and the players on the board this show is nothing short of a treat. Will it reach a wider audience? Time will tell but I sure hope so.

One of the best series in a long long time

All I can say is "yes". Yes yes yes. Watch this. It will make you a smarter person. I'd say 11 stars. Stop watching stupid reality television and watch this.

Excellent!

You don't need to be a Wu-Tang fan or a rap band, or even a music fan to love show. It's a dark, gritty, urban tale set with an amazing soundtrack. Highly recommend

RZA's Venom/Batman is voice is awful

Good show and brings a lot of depth to the band members, they got the OLB spot on. It does get very odd in Season 2, what happened to RZA's voice? Is he confusing himself with Batman?

The only review you'll need

This show was absolutely brilliant and will get you hooked whether you are a Wu Tang fan or not. I'm going to go over the basic storyline and positives and negatives of the show.. Season 1 was brilliant, it showed the gritty and rough life that the members lived and set the scene really well. The atmosphere was brilliant and really made you feel for the members as they grew up in an awful environment. The negatives of season 1 were that it wasn't too clear which character was who, and also that season 1 didn't really have much to do with the music. Season 2, This is the best season for sure, it shows the making of the first wu tang album (enter the wu tang) while also showing the members personal lives. The only bad thing about season 2 was that episode 1 and episode 4 were a bit boring, I also wish that they had shown the full recording session for C. R. E. A. M. Which is their biggest song so it would have made sense to show the full thing. Season 3, this season gets lots of unnecessary hate. It's about the clans life completely changing after making it big, in this season they go on tour, create their solo albums and it finishes with the making of Wu tang forever. The thing that brings season 3 down is the annoying 3 fantasy episodes, it would have had so much more potential if they showed how the solo albums were made instead of some weird fantasy stuff. Overall, the acting is brilliant, the only thing I would say about the acting is that the guy who plays RZA has a very annoying voice and he also doesn't look anything like RZA. The actors who played Raekwon, ODB, Power and Ghostface Killah were exceptional. I have watched the entire show twice because I love it so much. I would say season 2 is the best, followed by season 3, and then season 1. All of them are great. The best episode of the show for me was Season 2 Episode 8 "Saturday Nite" And the worst episode for me was Season 3 Episode 3 "Dirty Dancin" Overall the show is probably a 9.5/10 for me.

Something Special

Wu-Tang and RZA wrote to the sound track to my youth. I grew up with these guys in my ear and to see how it all unfolded, all the trial and tribulations, gives a totally new perspective on how they got to where they have and what made their music something special.

Wu-Tang will always have a place in this ol' hiphop head's heart and this series celebrates the passion of these artists and the era that is 90's hiphop.

The cast are great matches and do a great job of depicting the people they play.

Very enjoyable, well told another legendary Wu-Tang production.

Wu-Tang Killa beez on a swarm!!!!

Bobby's voice is cringeworthy

Season 1 was great! But a little hard to decipher who is who. It becomes quite obvious who RZA, Gostface, Meth, and Raekwon are. Very gritty and the rap scenes near the end of season 1 are sick.

Season 2... WTF did they do to Bobby's voice? It's completely ruined my experience; every scene with RZA/Bobby is cringe-worthy. I'm only 4 episodes into season 2, and having trouble because of how they manipulated Bobby's voice. It is bothering me so much, tgat I feel the need to come online and post about it. RZA is a musical genius and one of my heroes in life, but he sure screwed this up.

Anyway, can't wait to see how it evolves.

The show is 100%🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I've been a huge Wu-Tang Clan ever since I was a kid in Highschool back in 1993. This show definitely takes you back to the golden era of Underground/Hip-Hop Culture. The story of one man and his vision to get his family and friends out of the daily harsh struggles of the New York City projects is very inspiring throughout this day. We witness Robert Digs become the Rza and form the Iconic Wu-tang clan. A Hip-Hop group that did the unthinkable by dominating the music scene during its most competitive decade. Each member would go on to create and release solo classic albums in their own right. It was an era where music was life and life was music for what you rapped about, you lived. So grab a pair of Timberland boots, army fatigues, roll a Blunt and enjoy the show. "WU-TANG FOREVER"!!!

What the hell is wrong with Bobby's voice

Yo, season one was great. Just watched s2e1 and Bobby's voice is the most annoying thing. Not sure if they made it more raspy to make him sound hard but its annoying AF!

Great show

Great show very entertaining . Not a fan of rap .

But a fan of great acted interesting dramas . Very interesting story of coming from low income families and making it a very competitive industry . The obstacles are many and some deadly but team work and some Chinese kungfu movies guide these street hustlers to success .

1 season was great!2 season is a classic!

As a Wu Tang fan since the mid 90s I am very happy because this is a masterpiece! Rza is my all time fav. Hip hop producer and this series got his inique aesthetic. All the actors are giving great and realistic performances and the screenplay is based on true incidents of the wu tang history.9 out of 10.

What is wrong with rza's voice in season 2????

Brilliant series I grew up on the wu tang.. but the way rza (Ashton sanders) talks in the second series is awful and so distracting!! His older brother (divine) sounds more like rza then he does it's so robotic!! Apart from that it's a great watch great story behind it and TJ atoms plays ol dirty perfect!!

Loved this show.

I vaguely heard about Wu Tang Clan when my younger brother played their album a long time ago. Had no idea that ODB and Method Man belonged to this group. So I was very impressive to see how the group was formed.

I figured some parts are fictional for added entertainment. But imagine this was life in New York at the time and each member had their own struggles to deal with. It was lovely to watch them stick together and receive encouragement from their family and the communities.

The sound tracks throughout the show was amazing. I was not a fan of hip hop but I am now.

The entire cast performance was outstanding.

Memories...

I was sad when I watched the final episode. I grew up listening to Wutang, and wore all the WuWear (still do). I remember when they performed in Virginia back in '97 during the Rage Against the Machine Tour. Me and a few friends got to meet them in person and hung with them on the tour bus and after party. Raewkwon was so cool, Rza was so wise and blew me away with his conversation. I still have Polaroid pictures of me jumping over the seats with Method Man and hugging ODB (RIP)... I was back in the 90's all over again. I need to find a cassette player to get out my purple tape. This series was so good. You truly have to be a Wutang fan to appreciate it. I'm sure my son is glad I'm not acting like a teenager singing and sharing stories about the tour anymore.🤣 So glad that this was created so we could live the moment just one more time...Wutang is FOREVER!!! 🔥🔥🔥

Enjoying it but...

I enjoy this as a huge Wu Tang fan and as someone who can relate to the background these guys are from but the guy playing RZA is truly awful. In season 2, his voice and speech patterns have made this almost unwatchable.

Everytime he comes on screen I instantly cringe. This can't go on into season 3. It feels like a really bad joke but it's honestly dragging the whole experience right down into the dirt. It sounds dramatic but it's that bad.

The rest of the cast do an amazing job and the production value is much higher than I imagined (I assumed it would be cheap, so I put off watching it for a while). It's just a massive shame that one character can bring this whole show down so far.

Excellent

The casting is superb. Screenplay is extremely well written. I'm halfway through season 2 and they haven't even recorded the first album yet however, the story is gripping and each episode leaves you wanting more. They literally have so enough source material to do 10 or 20 seasons of this show. It's insane that no uk network or streaming platform has picked this up. Hopefully it does really well in the USA, so much so that they are forced to pick it up. The uk crowd would love it. Wu-tang was and is still is huge here especially in the over 30 age group. Closest show I've seen to this kind of quality would be the new edition biopic but that was extremely condensed story telling. I'm glad they didn't do that with this and I truly hope this show lives a long time and it gets the opportunity to tell us the stories and journeys of all the members of wu-tang clan. Special shout out to the actor playing the rza. I wasn't sure about him at first by my word has he grown on me over the course of the show. He is an actor with a bright future. If you are thinking about watching this show as a wu tang fan, music fan, or just a fan of good tv shows, go and watch it. You won't be dissapointed.
