I am only reviewing this show to provide additional perspectives because most of the reviews here rated this show pretty harshly.
This show is probably a 7 or 8. However, a 3 point whatever rating is insanely low for a show with a pretty good start. It's funny, but so far it's not laugh out loud funny. It is entertaining for sure, and I am looking forward to the next episode.
I imagine that this show will build develop these characters as it already shows great potential for being funny and heartfelt. The voice work is outstanding. I could listen to Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph argue about Crystal Light all day!
If you grew up broke, there might be a lot of aspects of this show that are familiar to you. I liked that it was relatable in a lot of ways.
UPDATE: I've now seen 8 episodes and I can't get enough of this show! The voice work continues to put a smile on my face, but the biggest attraction for me is the family's love for each other.
I liked Wayne from the start (he's possibly my favorite character along with Louise), but watching the story of how this family supports each other through it all has made me rewatch these episodes more times than I can count.
This show gets funnier and funnier (especially anything involving Maya Rudolph's character Betty), and it is almost painfully relatable. The stories of utilities getting cut off (last time our water got disconnected when I was growing up was just days before Thanksgiving and we couldn't pay all of those fees for a while), and I know all too well the process of putting $2 on one card, and $3 on another.
I adore this family, love how much the show makes me laugh, and I'm super impressed by its rewatchability (is that even a word? Well, it is today!)

I'm really, REALLY tried hard to watch it and enjoy, but I just realized it's not my cup of tea. I'm a fan of "King Of The Hill" and rewatched it for the 5th time. Suddenly I was looking around for similar shows and this one popped out. It was said that it was loosely inspired on KOTH, perhaps because they've used "Mega-Lo Mart" brand and that's it. And Mega-Lo Mart without Chuck Mangione is like going on a shop and buying for a single shoe.. It's not "natural". May have some music and composer rights around this, but... What the hey?
Then, I realized that I was kinda biased because I was looking forward to see some similar characters and jokes. Once I've noticed that, I've tried to be the most neutral and forced myself to give it a go. But, I've failed. It's good, but every new episode I start to watch, I am still waiting for something that clearly won't happen. And this "missing something" sensation is really awkward because you wait for every minute for something just to realize you've watched the whole two seasons.
When I see Wayne I still try to see Hank. But they're completely different. Violet is like Luanne with that unstable counterculture behaviour: on an episode she's against meat. Some episodes ahead, she's eating turkey. Go figure.
The "doodlely-doo" woman seems to only talk this. It's great to have a catchphrase, but I've listened for about three episodes and got really annoyed.
In some episodes, the attention span was really small. I had to move back some minutes to rewatch and understand things... But the illustration techniques, the soundtrack, the voices are all awesome! Just some stories are a bit off for me yet.
I've tried. This is kinda good, but I'll stick with KOTH.

This deserves higher than 3. It's relatable realistic and lightly entertaining. I can't wait to see more.
Okay so I watched this with the intention of enjoying it very well and that's what wound up happening there were laughs and enjoyment the people that give the bad reviews must not have any southern humor about them there's plenty to laugh at here well I saw plenty anyway it's southern humor like I said so I as a southern get it
I mean, let's take into consideration all the things it has going for it...
...And yet nothing about it works.
First of all the animation is not very good, the movement of the characters is always a bit off. The character designs are not particularly consistent when they should be.
The tone of the humor is all over the place, sometimes its trying to be grounded other times its trying to be pretty outlandish.
The storylines are pretty 'been there, done that' and don't hold enough interest for a half hour.
The characters are not really interesting, they're essentially cardboard cutouts of cardboard cutouts of other better characters that we have seen over and over again, the cast tries to make them fresh but the writing only allows them so far.
As I said before, this should work and be Grade A entertainment, but unfortunately it is a misfire.
- It is created by Emily Spivey, who has written for MadTV, Saturday Night Live, Parks & Rec., Up All Night, Modern Family, The Last Man on Earth, AND King of the Hill(Where she served as a story editor from 2001-2003).
- It is produced by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, a dynamic duo in both animation and comedy from the underrated MTV gem Clone High, the 21 Jump Street film series, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The LEGO Movie, The Last Man on Earth, and last year's Academy-Award Winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse.
- It stars Kristen Wiig(Who also serves as producer), Maya Rudolph, Ike Barinholtz, and Jillian Bell. All are extremely talented performers(in front of the camera and with voice) with serious range(Especially Wiig who may take on a serious career turn after being Cheetah in Wonder Woman 84 next year). Its guest stars include even Holly Hunter for goodness sake.
- It is set in the same universe as King of the Hill apparently(Mega-Lo Mart), even if its so minor a detail that is a huge attention draw in my book.
