It's easy to simply point some of the series mistakes but I think it's important to analyse the production context. Brazil is famous for its soap operas which has been producing in the country for decades. For most actors and producers, being part of these novelas (specially the ones from Rede Globo) represented a turning point for their career. The thing is although the country is famous for making good soap operas, it's a format with certain artistic limitations. Nowadays premium cable companies like HBO and streaming services like Netflix are investing in new series formats in the country and bringing the opportunity to Brazilian creatives to explore some new genres that are not common in the country's filmography. The Chosen One as a mystery fantasy thriller series is an addition to this new phase. Some of the acting still bring a novela feeling but it's nice to see a fiction production set outside the Rio-São Paulo axis. There's certainly other points to improve in the series overall which would be interesting to see in a second season.

Bunch of nonsense but it keeps you entertained..just finished watching all 12 episodes, not bad although very bizarre.. whoever created this must be on crack but good suspense.. props for entertaining me with this nonsense

Pretty typical horror/adventure series about a small, secluded community that's also a cult. Nothing revolutionary or unforgettable but entertaining enough! There are some dumb plot holes here and there, the female main lead is kind of annoying, but overall is well done.

An intriguing/entertaining/convoluted look at the human condition and what happens when one's pride/hubris takes over. Also a look at what happens when lust inspires disloyalty and unfaithfulness to one's partner. When I first started debating watching this show I didn't think I'd be hooked from the first episode. I'm very intrigued by the clash of religious fanaticism with the overzealous drs who all have their own motives and reasons for doing them and finding out that none of them are truly good, moral, upstanding people. Additionally, with current events being what they are, I feel this is very timely.

The lead character is incredibly annoying. The entire first episode is her telling everyone else how stupid everyone else is and that everyone regardless of knowing the situation must defer to her. Now on its own that's fine but time and time again she and her views on the people and village are continually shown to be wrong. She is the only thing that will stop me from watching. I get she's a doctor and the savior complex is inbred in most television doctors but the level of her superiority to everyone else continues even after everything she thinks is disproved she continues. But the worst of it is she is held in a building with a potential mob death she still gives the people holding her orders insisting she is still in charge. I know this is a tv show and she's a character in the show but I can't stand this show with her in it.

The first few episodes were really suspenseful to watch, but it eventually becomes over-done with all of the crazy things that happen. I am giving this a 5, because the acting is very good. The writing could have been worked on a bit more to cut out some of the fluff and get to the point. It just feels like you experience climax after climax, but then nothing ever happens except a lot more of the same old thing. I am on the last episode....so glad I am finally there!

I was quite surprise that ppl gave it just 5 stars!!! thank god i didn't check ratings before watching, or else i wouldve missed out on this beautiful series. Every episode is unpredictable, it has so many twist and turns to the point u cant figure out wats coming next untill it happens Acting- photography- storyline .. all is 8/10

This was an amateurish attempt from beginning to end. Actors didn't know how to play their pats, dialog was questionable and the story made little, if any, sense. The worst of the bunch was the female doctor. She smiled when she should have been looking serious and so on. Only reason I watched it to the bitter end was that it was less that 6 hours long. Next time though I turn it off immediately. NFLX needs to send a crew to Brazil and teach these guys how to make movies. In more expert hands this probably could have been a decent effort.

B4 I start a review let me say there are so many reviews that are I guess U.S.centric and I'm American. They need to come here abd learn how to make a thriller blah blah. From the same voices of U.S. shows that lament adnauseum about pc this pc that woke etc,hmm ok.But then this show gets bad reviews not going in hardly any of these directions plus it has a rather unique premise. A Chosen man, a healer in a land where Doctors are trying to at first bring vaccines for a mutated more fatal zika virus. But oh boy that's just the beginning. The acting is very good, the story is original and the setting is great. Season one is good and season two is even more interesting Binge when you can and enjoy this unique series. Netflix out did themselves.

Watched the 1 episode and got so annoyed at the female doctor I hoped for a quick death to her, but that seems very unlikely so I will let be at 1 episode.

DONT WATCH THIS IS HORRIBLE

Was pretty good but the last episode of season 2 ruined the whole series. I hate it when they screw up the season ender. I feel I wasted too many hours of my life. Will NOT watch a 3rd seasen.

Premise: strong female lead character (a doctor) thinks she knows better than anyone else. Doesn't listen to her colleagues and inevitably brings chaos to a small commune.

But

It's actually quite entertaining. The acting is good. The setting, camera work, dialogue is good. They throw in a few characters that you instantly dislike. There's a few subplots going on that hold your interest and finally it shows up the fragility of the human condition even in remote spots that don't get visitors and how everything falls apart when strangers turn up. Binge watch season 2 next.

Why did Netflix wast money in this "series"? Or Brazil doesn't know to make a good show, or Netflix doesn't choose a good show. I could past for the 10 first minutes. Terrible.

Can not say enough good things about this series. It has humor, thriller and got some sexy and well crafted photography as well. Brazilians have the famous Carnaval and soccer to be proud of besides the "telenovelas". Now they can be proud of a series that commands a great cast, writing and ingenuity in how it all put together creates a gravitational pull towards it whenever you watch a chapter it will drawn you to continue watching. Its a great series for 2019 and i hope Netflix will produce season 2 the same way done with season 1.

It deserves to be watched, the mistery is intriguing and the actors steel the show. Netflix nailed it!

The first season was ok, but the second season is amazing. The story gains more depth, the pace becomes more rapid, and the mysteries become to be solved. The end of the 2nd season is a huge cliffhanger. I hope Netflix does not cancel the series and let us watch its conclusion.

Loved it and I am hoping to see a second season! The story is well written and there is a good mix of science and faith.

For me personally at the beginning of the first episode I didn't pay attention during the first 15 mins and I was so close to removing it but after a few mor minutes i pretty much found myself glued to the tv. I found it weird but obviously interesting cause I binge watched it 😅. I think it's very mysterious in a way but I don't think it's everyone's cup of tea lol. If u are into thrilling and dramatic shows/movies I think you can take a quick look at it.

I really loved this . it was great totally kept me hooked. I love how they brought religion and science together. Beautiful sets too . can't wait for season 2

I saw the whole season in a day!The cult thing is just wow. I am expecting season 2

Suspense, thrills, laughs. This series is well written and acted. The character Enzo's sense of humor is timed perfectly and all the main characters are developed and the viewer can grow to like or dislike them depending on their perception. The lead female role is also well acted. This young lady has a bright future. 10 out of 10 all the way.

When I saw the title first in Portuguese, I was reluctant. Then got caught in the story. Actors are good, story is a mystery, far better than many other shows on Netflix.

Found this title by chance and was pretty impressed. I wasn't sure where this was going to go, ie scientific vs supernatural. After season 2 I hope to see season 3. The acting is very good and I never thought it got boring. Screen writing was stellar compared to many other foreign series I watched. Worth your while.

Simply do not understand the "hate" for the lead character (female doctor) played by the lovely and talented Paloma Bernardi. A woman lead character thinking/knowing she is the most intelligent one in any situation - heaven forbid!

Could watch her in anything. Sure, "suspension of disbelief" is a firm requirement when watching this, but that could be said of almost anything that is out there these days. Worth a watch, mostly unpredictable and fun.
