Film review : Kakababu Protyoborton ( in theatres)
#sanjuzzreviews #kakababuprotyoborton
Directed by Srijit Mukherji, this is the 3rd installment of the Kakababu series, the first first two being Mishawr Roshoshyo and Yeti Obhijaan. I had great expectations frm this one but it left me a tad bit disappointed.
The storyline is very simple, Kakababu and Shontu are on a vacation in the African Savannah's where they get involved in a sinister mystery.
First the positives, Prosenjit and Aryan Bhowmik rock as Kakababu and Shontu. A surprise package is Anirbhan Chakraborti ( aka Eken Babu ) in a special role aping Jatayu from Feluda as the third musketeer.
Starts off very well with stunning views of the African forests, animals, quippy one-liners & the banter between the three protagonists. There is also a twist in the 2nd half that is interesting.
Now the things that I didn't like.... The story tends to drag with nothing happening for long periods of time. The story might have been a great read but when translated into a movie ... It pales a bit and makes u feel like u r watching an extended animal planet video. Thrilling moments sorely missed.
Crisp editing could've easy reduced the runtime by around 45 mins . Or it could've been released as a 3 part mini web series which would have appealed more to true blue Kakababu fans.
But hey.. don't be too sad, watch it anyways. Not a bad film and I'm sure many of my bangla bondhu's will enjoy it for the sheer nostalgia involved in seeing their childhood heroes and characters come alive on the big screen.
I'll go with 2.5/5 for this .. Adios 🙂

Story has hardly any substance - should've been a 15 min movie. Rest is filled up with shots of African Safari. Just because the cast & crew spent money to shoot in Masai-mara, the audience has to sit through 1.5 hours of safari stuff which is better shown in National Geographic.
It is feel like I am watching national geography channel or discovery channel and 2nd thing is there is nothing like "Rohosyo Bhed" which we saw in other kakababu franchisee's means kakababu did not solve any mystery in this film .. so I would suggest don't waste your time to watch this film..just because it is a kakababu franchisee's and bumbada is there in the film.. that is why I am giving 3 stars.
It is not a movie at all. It's an adventure travel vlog. Wasted my money. Should have re watched Tonic or watch 8/12. Srijit is as usual nonsense. Saraswati Puja wasted. Now booked tickets for Tonic on Sunday to get me and my family refreshed and entertained.
Let me cut to the chase:
Pros
1. Susoenseful scenes of danger involving wild animals
2. Anirban Chakrabarti's acting
Cons.
1. Shamless contextual advertising marring the plot 2. Too much reference to Feluda and Lalmohan Ganguly. Almost as if Srijit knew his Kakababu didnt have it in him to carry the entire script on his own shoulders and therefore the desperate attempt to cling on to a character that Bengalis would warm up to with 100 % certainty.
3. Hardly any whodunnit angle. The bad man revealed himself and solved the mystery for Kakababu 4. A sorry Kakababu (in Sunil Ganguly's manuscripts, where did the old man go to highlight his hair I wonder?) and a sorrier Shontu ( i expect a more cerebral looking fellow as Shontu. How about Riddhi in the next one?)
Overall a good watch but a slightly disappointing one. I have said this earlier about Srijit messing with famous Bengali literature. If you do take up the job of fliming originals penned by folks like Satyajit Ray or Sunil Ganguly, you got to live up to a certain standard. Else, just film stories of your own. You do a much better job with originals (dwitiyo purush notwithstanding).
