Watching this movie was an absolute delight. Every frame is infused with goodness and simplicity. The background score was a cherry on the topping, with obscure jazz music playing with rain in the background. The locales of Kolkata were brilliantly filmed and I'm not talking about the fancy parts of the city, but the street life. The cinematography, too, was commendable.
The performances by the mother - daughter duo were the highlight of this film, both did such a tremendously good job and the supporting characters, too, were a delight to watch on screen. Every character was very well written. I'm looking forward to more future projects by this crew.
" Weird is okay "
Film : Kia and Cosmo's Director : Sudipto Roy Dop : @adityavarmaarts Music : @neeladhikari Editing : Anirban Maty Cast : @swastikamukherjee13 @ritwika_pal
"its very difficult to tell the truth all the time" This movie thrown me such kind of situation ( it has the bit flavours of #Peranbu #margaritawithastraw #Barfi ) there are some films in which everything and everyone good just happen to come together - like a cosmic coincidence that was destined to happen, although no one knows how. Sudipto Roy's debut feature film Kia and Cosmos is that kind of film.
'weird is okay!' In fact, there are only passing mentions of what one would call 'weird' in #Kia #Dia lives.
The film can deservedly boast of some amazing technical work. The sound design by Abhinav Agnihotri, for instance, is refreshingly innovative and experimental #adityavarma perfect companion to one of the best cinematography.
Joy is measured - in #swastikamukherjee performance and also in the screen time. There is an extended scene in the film - one in which Kia's mother is cleaning her up after the girl has had her periods. The unfazed sound of the crickets, the unforgiving camera holding still on the two women, the flickering of the candlelight on the walls, and the frustration of an exhausted mother who is sick and tired of fighting a lone battle - these are only some of the things that this marvelous scene is marked with. And if there is anything that elevates the scene to the highest echelons of cinematic perfection.
In fact #ritwikapal Work too !

A very hard hitting and sensitive film highlighted in a realistic manner from the point of view of an autistic girl. The film in numerous manner shows human emotions and how they all are related to metaphors. I wonder how this Bangla Film flopped at the box office. It has got some really good performances like the one from Swastika and also this autistic girl played by Ritwika Paul. The film shows the complicated relationship between a frustated mother and an simple autistic girl. The Background Score and Cinematography of the movie is something of nxt level. By using an Ukulele and a Piano they gave sensational perspective to this murder Mystery. I would highly highly recommend this movie. Do give it a watch if you love realistic murder Mysteries.
Kia and Cosmos portray a very nuanced journey of Kia for Truth.
The film is beautiful aesthetically and the story is very good. Although the pacing is a bit slow, still you can enjoy the film. The music is really great. And the performances are breathtaking.
This film is a memorable one.

Kia and Cosmos - Kia, an autistic teenager, lives with her single mother Dia (Swastika Mukherjee), often wallowing in the loss of her father, told to have died of a heart attack. She is sensitive, cannot understand or appreciate the intriguing ways of the adults and disapproves of her mother's interaction with another man. Kia writes diaries and interacts well with her teacher and the rickshaw puller who is responsible for her school transportation. She enjoys higher mathematics and music, but generally keeps to herself at home, oblivious of her mother's trials and tribulations of their daily life. The sudden death (poisoning) of their neighbor's cat Cosmos brings about a different dimension in Kia's life, and her determination to find the murderer will change their lives forever. Kia and Cosmos is about the coming of age of Kia and a grand finale puts her in charge of her own destiny.
Director Sudipta Roy scrutinises Kia's life in great detail. Her interactions with her mother Dia, especially the volatility of their relationship evolving from Kia's silent resentment of Dia's control are poignant. How Kia breaks the barrier of loneliness by meeting strangers in her quest to solve the murder of the cat is sensibly depicted, never appearing unnatural. Ritwika Pal in the titular role of Kia is absolutely first class, and Swastika easily slips into a second fiddle as designed, combining affection, anger, volatility, pain and concern for the child into a convincing package. On a critical note, the film is rather one-dimensional, focusing purely on Kia for it's full length which makes it painstakingly long and consequently sluggish. It did have the opportunity of mixing the elements of Dia's battle with the motherhood of an autistic child and singly managing their lives after the departure of her husband, but the director ignores the aspect completely, thus allowing monotony to creep in. I give it 8 STARS still, as despite the subject, Kia and Cosmos ushers in positivism and a mature conclusion.
