Taking to social media, Gunn revealed a new piece of artwork by comic book legend Jim Lee that sees Superman standing next to Lex Luthor in his power suit.

The next installment in the “Superman” saga now has a release date.

James Gunn revealed on social media that “Man of Tomorrow,” the follow-up to this summer’s “Superman,” will hit theaters on July 9, 2027.

Previously, Gunn had hinted that he was writing the DC Studios project, which he didn’t describe as a direct sequel. Speculation was that production would start in 2026.

When Gunn and producer Peter Safran were installed as heads of the newly formed DC Studios, they announced an ambitious slate of projects across film, television and animation. They would also oversee video game projects related to the various properties.

“Superman,” which introduced the new DC Universe, arrived this July.

Last week, in the wake of Jaws’ 50th anniversary, we asked: what films did you see at too young an age? For this writer it was – surprise, surprise – the TV premiere of the aforementioned 1975 shark thriller, which made such an impression on my four year-old mind that I refused to paddle in the sea for months afterwards.

“It was Jaws for me too,” says Film Stories reader Big Dunc. “I was seven when it was on TV for the first time, and I made it as far as the head popping out of the boat. I then took myself to bed but couldn’t sleep because I was too freaked out. I’m pretty sure I slept with the light on for a few weeks after that.

But, the year comes as a double-edged sword, as it's also the first time one of the previously announced projects has been shelved by Gunn and the studio. DC Studios currently has several movies in development, including The Brave and the Bold, The Authority, a Swamp Thing horror movie, and the recently announced Wonder Woman reboot film. There was an HBO prequel series titled Paradise Lost that would focus on the Amazons, but that series was pitched as taking place before the birth of Wonder Woman.

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gunn confirmed that a solo Wonder Woman film is being developed at DC Studios. While this might as well be a Justice League film or a cameo in a Teen Titans movie, the speculation has skewed towards a World’s Finest film, which may or may not be in development.
