Image
James Gunn has announced his follow-up to "Superman." Gunn is the co-head of DC Studios at Warner Bros., and ever since his new take on the Man of Steel hit theaters, he has been teasing a sequel of sorts. Now, the "Guardians of the Galaxy" filmmaker has pulled back the curtain to reveal the next entry in the saga of David Corenswet's Superman. Get ready for "Man of Tomorrow" in summer 2027.

James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Follow-Up, ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ Set for 2027 Release
Image
The next installment in the “Superman” saga now has a release date.

James Gunn revealed on social media that “Man of Tomorrow,” the follow-up to this summer’s “Superman,” will hit theaters on July 9, 2027.

Previously, Gunn had hinted that he was writing the DC Studios project, which he didn’t describe as a direct sequel. Speculation was that production would start in 2026.

When Gunn and producer Peter Safran were installed as heads of the newly formed DC Studios, they announced an ambitious slate of projects across film, television and animation. They would also oversee video game projects related to the various properties.

“Superman,” which introduced the new DC Universe, arrived this July.

The Awful TV Movie You Had No Idea Marvel Boss Kevin Feige Produced
Image
Kevin Feige is one of those nerds whose dream came true. He graduated from the University of Southern California in 1995 and immediately got a gig as the assistant to Lauren Shuler Donner, the executive producer of Hollywood flicks like "Volcano" and "You've Got Mail." Evidently, Feige wouldn't stop talking about his obsession with Marvel Comics, and Donner got him a job working on Bryan Singer's 2000 film "X-Men" as a result. Feige has an associate producer credit on that film, and it went on to be a big hit. Not only that, but it was proof that Marvel superheroes were viable for screen adaptation, and a door started to swing open,...

Rumor: DC Studios Wants Superman, Batman, And Wonder Woman Movies In 2027 (But One Won't Be Set In The Dcu)
Image
DC Studios unveiled the "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" slate at the start of 2023, and it wasn't dissimilar from Warner Bros. announcing the ill-fated Dceu lineup in 2014.

That largely revolved around the Justice League's characters. James Gunn and Peter Safran, meanwhile, have taken a more eclectic approach, with a combination of heavy-hitters like Superman and Batman, along with Supergirl, Swamp Thing, and the Creature Commandos.

While a Wonder Woman movie has since been announced, the Dark Knight remains stuck in limbo. The Batman Part II is gearing up to begin production, but that's an Elseworlds title, and clearly won't be set in the Dcu. According to Gunn, The Brave...

A Guide to James Gunn’s New DC Universe: Every Confirmed Movie and TV Show Revealed
Image
James Gunn has officially kick-started a fresh era for DC with his new DC Universe, and fans are already seeing the difference. After years of ups and downs with the old Dceu, Gunn and Peter Safran have built a clean slate that still carries a few familiar faces but focuses on one big, connected story across movies and shows.

His first big swing, Superman (2025), has set the stage for what this universe will look like—grounded, hopeful, and tightly planned. With the animated show Creature Commandos opening the “Gods and Monsters” chapter and more projects lined up, Gunn has a clear vision for the Dcu’s direction. Let’s take...

'Peacemaker's Huge Season 2 Justice League Retcon Sees New Dcu Hero Take Flight For the First Time
Image
The arrival of Peacemaker Season 2 on HBO Max contained the unsurprising retcon of that Justice League cameo appearance in the finale of Season 1. As James Gunn previously suggested, the show’s tightrope-walk along the borderline of canon between the Dceu and the Dcu was completed in the opening episode of the new season, and that included putting the Justice Gang into a reworked version of the Justice League scene that last time around featured Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Ezra Miller’s The Flash. However, there is one member of the new team that no one expected to see yet – Milly Alcock’s Supergirl.

Alcock made her debut as Supergirl...

What’s Next For James Gunn’s Dcu – Every Project Announced So Far
Image
James Gunn’s Dcu Roadmap: Every Movie and TV Show Announced So Far (Photo Credit – Instagram)

When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-heads of DC Studios, the expectation was nothing short of a complete rebuild. For years, the DC Extended Universe had been defined by inconsistent storytelling, frequent creative shifts, and divided fan reactions. Now, Gunn’s new vision promises to reshape DC on screen into a more cohesive and interconnected universe, one that blends iconic heroes with unexpected, riskier choices.

Instead of rushing to replicate Marvel’s formula, Gunn has outlined a clear roadmap called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. This slate, as per Rotten Tomatoes, includes theatrical blockbusters alongside original TV series, all set within the same continuity. While Superman might remain central, the inclusion of lesser-known characters and genre-bending projects shows Gunn’s desire to broaden DC’s appeal.

Warner Bros. Confirms How Many Dcu Movies Will Be Released Every Year
Image
The Dcu is finally in full swing following Superman's dominating run in theaters. With the Man of Steel officially flying high over the skies of Metropolis, many DC fans are looking over the horizon to the fledgling franchise's growing future. We already know that Supergirl is set to take flight in 2026, with the Lanterns HBO series also premiering next year. James Gunn and Peter Safran have been closely guarded about release dates until a project has fully progressed from development into pre-production. But, while we might not know the exact dates of the Dcu's upcoming slate (which includes the Batman movie The Brave and the Bold and the Swamp Thing horror film), we do know how often Gunn and Safran will be treating DC fans to new stories.

According to a new report by The Hollywood Reporter, the Dcu is moving full steam ahead with the rest of the...

James Mangold Reportedly Shuns 'Star Wars' & Dcu Movies Again for Timothee Chalamet Motocross Movie
Image
There are some big movies waiting for James Mangold to make some availability in his schedule, with Dcu’s Swamp Thing and Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi movies being two of the most prominent – and already delayed – on the list. However, according to Deadline, fans will have to wait even longer to see either of these movies begin production as Mangold is reportedly eyeing another movie with Timothée Chalamet first.

Mangold and Chalamet scored a hit with the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown last year, and now it looks like they will be collaborating again on High Side, a motocross-themed heist thriller drawn from an unpublished Jaime Oliveira short story and now being shopped by Chernin Entertainment. The reports, which are still only suggested at this point, describe the story as being centered on a fallen MotoGP prodigy named Billy who is lured into a string of bank robberies by his estranged brother,...

James Mangold and Timothée Chalamet plan to re-team for heist movie High Side
Image
James Mangold and Timothée Chalamet are looking to collaborate on High Side, a heist drama currently being pitched around Hollywood. More on the pair’s potential re-team below.

A Complete Unknown, this year’s Oscar-nominated Bob Dylan biopic, proved James Mangold and Timothée Chalamet were a match made in heaven when it came to filmmaking. Mangold got an electric performance out of Chalamet and A Complete Unknown scored eight Oscar nominations alongside several other awards nominations.

The pair are now looking to team up again, this time for a heist drama, High Side. Deadline has the scoop that the film, if it goes into development, would be based on Jaime Oliveira’s unpublished short story and Oliveira’s team is currently shopping the story around Hollywood.

Chalamet could play Billy, a former MotoGP racer whose career is destroyed by a tragic accident. He is drawn back into the world of...

High Side: Timothée Chalamet and James Mangold to Reunite for High Speed Crime Movie
Image
The motocross heist movie, High Side, is reportedly eyeing a reunion between Timothée Chalamet and James Mangold (via Deadline), who previously nabbed eight Oscar nods for the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown. Given the critical success of their previous collaboration, it’s reasonable to see why they’d want to reunite again for a high-octane thriller.

Having already excelled in a variety of genres beforehand, Chalamet’s participation in the project will only add to his growing resume as one of the more revered, versatile performers of the new generation.

High Side Is Based on an Unpublished Story From Jaime Oliveira

The 12 Best Magic-Based Superheroes From Both Marvel And DC Comics, Ranked
Image
The respective worlds of Marvel Comics and DC Comics aren't always associated with magic and sorcery. Some of the biggest characters from either franchise run the gamut from otherworldly aliens (Marvel's Captain Marvel and DC's Superman), technologically-capable geniuses (Marvel's Iron Man and DC's Mister Terrific), and even just straight-up powerless vigilantes (Marvel's Daredevil and DC's Batman). However, both comic book giants also have plenty of characters whose powers are less super and more archaic.

These powerful individuals from both franchises include some of the strongest superheroes to ever grace the pages of a comic book, and cover a wide variety of magic types. There's those who are given their powers by a god or deity, those who master the ways of sorcery and witchcraft, and those who are just simply born with the latent ability to manipulate matter and bend the universe to their will. These are the 12 best magic-based...

Gary Dauberman teams with Brightburn director David Yarovesky for horror film He Never Dies
Gary Dauberman
Gary Dauberman is staying busy. A couple of years ago, he signed a first-look deal with Sony’s Screen Gems for feature films. As part of that deal, he is expected to “create projects for himself while curating a slate featuring established and up-and-coming filmmakers.” So far, the deal has resulted in the video game adaptation Until Dawn, and other projects in development include the Joe Hill adaptation Ushers, an Urban Legend reboot, the “demonic horror on a plane” story Human Remains, and the video game adaptation The Medium. Now, Deadline reports that Dauberman and his production company Coin Operated are teaming with Brightburn director David Yarovesky to develop a horror movie called He Never Dies.

Yarovesky will be writing and directing the movie. Here’s the logline: In He Never Dies, the man they killed keeps coming back. Bigger. Stronger. Less human. No matter what they do… He. Never.

'Superman' Director James Gunn Shares Candid Reaction to 'The Authority' Dcu Status
Image
As Superman continues to dominate the conversation as the highest-grossing superhero movie of 2025, it's safe to say that the fate of the Dcu is no longer up in the air. However, that doesn't mean that some projects, announced in 2023, are still on the way. This is especially true for The Authority, as the planned Superman spin-off has seen some setbacks during development. If James Gunn's latest statement is any indication, DC fans should temper their expectations about the film actually happening.

While speaking with StrawHatGoofy at San Diego Comic-Con, Gunn teased what was up next in the Dcu slate after Superman. As they rattle off the impending titles, The Authority pops up, prompting Gunn to give a status update. In perhaps the most honest reaction to the film's development, Gunn proceeds to simply laugh. He was likely trying to find the right words to say, but it ends up...

DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn Shares Dcu Slate Update (And Things Don't Sound Good For The Authority)
Image
At the start of 2023, the newly formed DC Studios announced an ambitious slate of movies and TV shows. The Hollywood strikes delayed things, and while a few projects have fallen by the wayside (including Waller and Paradise Lost), the Dcu is starting to take shape.

Creature Commandos was a critical hit, and Superman was a definite win for the studio, despite a sluggish run at the international box office.

Speaking at this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, filmmaker and DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn shared an update on the immediate projects in development for the Dcu.

"We got Supergirl coming out in a year, we got Lanterns coming out, probably less than a year," the Superman helmer revealed. "We're making Clayface right now and that is, oh man, the script by Mike Flanagan is so good. Straight horror."

"We're working on The Brave and the Bold, Wonder Woman, The Batman 2 with Matt Reeves.

James Gunn's Journey From Iconic B-Movie Studio To DC Boss Addressed By Cult Classic Legend
Image
James Gunn's DC Studios role is praised by his long-time collaborator and B-movie legend Lloyd Kaufman at San Diego Comic-Con 2025. James Gunn's work on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy tested his skills at translating comic book heroes to live-action. But before that, Gunn built a career in the B-movie scene at Troma, best known for their Toxic Avenger movies.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, ScreenRant's Ash Crossan interviewed Toxic Avenger creator Lloyd Kaufman, who shared his thoughts on the origins of James Gunn's filmmaking career at Troma. Kaufman noted Gunn's academic preparation, but revealed that it was Gunn's commitment to the craft that made him a standout filmmaker from the start. Read Kaufman's full comments below:

Ash Crossan: "Lloyd, when I think about Troma, I was just thinking about this, one of the people that got their starts at Troma was Mr. James Gunn, who has one of...

How Producer Michael Uslan Gave Us ‘Batman’ and Shaped the Superhero Movie Era
Image
Few people have done more to lead comic books from cinematic punchline to box-office dominance than Michael E. Uslan, who spent a decade trying to sell Hollywood on a dark, serious version of Batman. For the producer and Warner Bros., the eventual reward was Tim Burton’s 1989 hit “Batman,” followed by producing credits on dozens of Dark Knight projects over the last 35 years.

Uslan’s perspective thus seems particularly relevant at a pivotal moment for the superhero movie, which is seeking a resurgence behind “Superman” and “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” with the promising opening for the former suggesting the process might be at least partway there. The longtime producer, after all, has seen his fair share of boom and bust periods for the genre.

Heading into another Comic-Con in San Diego, a convention that has grown along with the interest in all things comics, the reloading of superhero fare also...

James Gunn Confirms Luca Guadagnino Will No Longer Direct Sgt. Rock; Shares Big Swamp Thing Update
Image
The news broke in May that DC Studios had decided to shelve Sgt. Rock. There was some chatter about the movie shooting in 2026, but filmmaker Luca Guadagnino didn't exactly stick around and quickly moved on to a different project, Artificial.

His inexperience helming big-budget movies was listed as one of the possible reasons for Sgt. Rock's postponement, as were concerns about the UK's unpredictable weather. There were telltale signs of problems from the start, with Daniel Craig eyed to lead the movie before DC Studios suddenly pivoted to Colin Farrell.

Some believe Farrell was the cheaper option (James Gunn and Peter Safran don't appear keen on spending a huge amount of money on actors), despite Guadagnino being eager to reunite with Craig, whom he previously worked with on Queer.

Talking to Josh Horowitz, Gunn said he's still "hugely" excited to make Sgt. Rock, but when he was asked whether Guadagnino is still attached,...

DC Studios Confirms the Current State of 'Swamp Thing' After Cancellation Report
Image
There is still hope for Swamp Thing's Dcu future as news of the film's cancellation has been greatly exaggerated, according to James Gunn. Ever since the news broke that a previously announced Dcu title had been canceled, fans have been speculating which film it might have been. A recent interview with Gunn the other day had many speculating that the canceled film in question might have been James Mangold's Swamp Thing, given Gunn's comments that the film had a writer and director attached.

However, James Gunn has debunked the claims that Swamp Thing has been canceled. Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, via Dcu Updates, Gunn confirmed Swamp Thing is still in development and that he recently spoke with James Mangold about the film. What is holding Swamp Thing up? James Mangold's other projects include the development of a Star Wars film centered on...

James Gunn Says Dcu Future Event Will Become Clearer in 'Peacemaker' Season 2
Image
The future of the Dcu has been teased in many ways by James Gunn, but the co-ceo of DC Studios is not overly forthcoming about where things are heading in the new iteration of the franchise. This should be nothing out of the ordinary for many comic book fans, as Kevin Feige has been doing exactly the same thing over at Marvel Studios for almost two decades now. However, in a recent interview with ScreenRant, Gunn suggested that some people might be able to work out what big event the Dcu is heading towards.

Peacemaker is one of the few Dceu projects to have survived the massive overhaul of the franchise, as Season 2 of the popular show will be airing this August on HBO Max. While there will be a couple of retcons expected to bring everything in line, Gunn has previously said there will be a big character cameo...

David Corenswet’s Star Wars Dream Can Come True in James Mangold’s Most Ambitious Movie

Actor David Corenswet is fresh off the positive reception of his iteration of the iconic DC Comics superhero in Superman. During an interview with Vanity Fair, the actor admitted that there was one role he wanted to play more than the Man of Steel.

Corenswet made the above statement, revealing his dream role, but admitted that he would also love to play an X-wing pilot in the space opera saga. The actor has expressed his admiration for the Star Wars franchise during his press interactions, and James Mangold can make his dream come true with his most ambitious project yet.

James Mangold's 'Swamp Thing' Movie Gets a Scary and Honest Update From DC Studios Boss
Image
Back when the first phase of the Dcu was announced, James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled a sprawling vision for a world that could house a wide range of projects, from typical superhero fare to comedic features and even horror. On that latter end was Swamp Thing, an exploration of the titular human/plant monster's dark origin story written and directed by James Mangold as a standalone addition to the universe. The new cinematic franchise is now starting to bear fruit with Superman and Creature Commandos, though news about the gothic and gooey tale has been harder to come by. It's been largely lost in the shuffle as other projects have taken precedence, but Gunn hasn't forgotten about the bio-chemical amalgamation that once was Alec Holland.

In a wide-ranging conversation with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn was directly asked about a long line of previously announced Dcu projects,...

James Gunn Drops Major 2025 Updates About 15 DC Movie And TV Projects
Image
James Gunn has given the biggest update on the DC Universe franchise since the initial slate announcement, with new details about 15 potential projects from Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters." Following the release of Gunn's Superman movie, the journey is just getting started for DC Studios' new franchise, with multiple films and series in the works.

Gunn was recently on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, where he was asked about updates to a total of 15 Dcu movies and TV shows that are potentially coming from DC Studios. The updates include more details on the Dcu's Batman and Wonder Woman, as well as some of the projects that have finished filming.

When asked about the Jimmy Olsen and Mister Terrific spinoff shows that were rumored last week, Gunn groaned, and acted as if he was about to say something before stopping himself. This question was in light of...

DC Studios May Be Looking For A TV Actress To Play Wonder Woman; Update On Bane & Deathstroke Movie
Image
With the trades reporting that DC Studios is finally fast-tracking a Wonder Woman movie, we're one step closer to seeing Diana Prince back in theaters where she belongs.

It initially looked like we'd have to wait for the Amazon, with James Gunn and Peter Safran instead prioritising the Themyscira-set Paradise Lost. The TV series hasn't taken shape, though, and DC Studios appears to have listened to fans eager to see DC's A-Listers on screen, not just B-Listers like Booster Gold and Swamp Thing.

Appearing on The Box Office Podcast, The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez revealed that, when it comes to casting Wonder Woman, DC Studios is searching for an actress with a television background, similar to Supergirl star Milly Alcock. She was best known for House of the Dragon before being tapped to play Kara.

In other words, they're searching for someone who isn't necessarily a household name with several big movies on their IMDb page.

James Gunn Reveals DC Studios Canceled a Dcu Film That Was Greenlit
Image
James Gunn might have inadvertently revealed what the canceled Dcu film is, and it is one that will likely disappoint fans. In June 2025, the DC Studios co-head confirmed that one of the previously announced Dcu films had been scrapped. Many thought it was the recently canceled Sgt. Rock film from Challengers director Luca Guadagnino, but Gunn's recent comments have suggested that the film could just be delayed. Fans have speculated which announced title was canned, and a recent comment by Gunn might mean bad news for Swamp Thing.

Speaking withNPR, Gunn gave details about a greenlit Dcu film that won't see the light of day. After multiple drafts of the script, he revealed that it just was not coming together, and decided, for the sake of the studio, and the filmmakers attached, it was better to kill the project than move forward with it. The most illuminating piece is...

James Gunn says of unspecified DC Universe movie: “we killed it”
Image
In a new interview, Superman filmmaker and DC Studios boss James Gunn says an unspecified movie was “not going to be good” so he and his team “killed it.”

Let the speculation commence. Writer-director James Gunn, whose Superman is currently swooping around multiplexes, has spoken about axing an unspecified movie in the DC Universe.

As well as a filmmaker, Gunn is also the co-head of DC Studios, and so he’s overseeing an entire slate of comic book movies. This summer’s Superman kicks off the DC Universe in its new form, but next year sees the release of Supergirl and the horror-laced Clayface. Looking further ahead, there’s Matt Reeves' The Batman Part 2 and The Brave And The Bold, to name but two.

Speaking to NPR, however, Gunn discusses a screenplay that went through several drafts before he and his team decided that it wasn’t good enough to go before cameras.

"We Can't Make This Film": James Gunn Addresses Canceled Dcu Movie That Had A Director & Writer
Image
DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn addresses having to cancel an upcoming DC Universe movie. Gunn's Superman movie has finally arrived in theaters, and the Dcu's Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters" slate is just getting started, sd more films and TV projects are currently in different stages of development over at DC Studios.

With DC Studios putting a huge emphasis on having finalized scripts before anything goes into production, the Dcu timeline is already standing out from the Dceu movie franchise. However, if a screenplay can't come together the way DC Studios wants it to, the project simply will not go forward at all.

During a recent NPR interview, Gunn opened up about how there was a Dcu movie he had to cancel, despite having a director and screenwriter attached to the project. According to Gunn, despite having worked on numerous drafts for this film, DC Studios couldn't proceed with it,...

Seth Meyers Pitched James Gunn Three Dcu Heroes He Could Play
Image
Seth Meyers pitched himself to James Gunn on possibly playing a Dcu hero, and the picks aren't half bad. Gunn appeared as a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers on July 15, 2025, to promote Superman. The first film in the Dcu is kicking off a shared universe that is already populated with heroes like Mister Terrific, Metamorpho, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, and Supergirl. With DC Comics featuring a vast library of characters, there are plenty of roles to go around, and Meyers wants in on the action.

Seth Meyers jokingly (maybe sincerely) pitched himself to Gunn about three superheroes he could play in the DC Universe. Meyers referenced the fact that he was name-dropped in Peacemaker Season 1, making him canon to the Dcu before pitching who he thinks he could play. The heroes included the second Blue Beetle, Ted Kord, who is depicted as Meyers in a drawing by comic book artist Kevin Maguire,...

James Gunn is celebrating a big win following the release of Superman. The first feature film in the new Dcu opened to $125 million, and positive word of mouth from critics and audiences suggests a long box office run. Superman is one part of what is referred to as the Trinity, the three lead characters of the DC Universe alongside Batman and Wonder Woman. Now that Superman has made his big-screen Dcu debut, everyone is wondering when Batman and Wonder Woman will join the rebooted cinematic universe.

Speaking with Urbana Play via ScreenTime, Gunn discussed the upcoming Batman and Wonder Woman films. They are high priorities for DC Studios, and both have scripts being worked on. However, Gunn won't rush either project, and like all Dcu entries, he wants the scripts to be perfect. This means fans shouldn't expect any casting announcements until they are complete. He did say that as...

'Superman's Box Office Seals Fate of Dcu Slate, Says Warner Bros. Discovery
Image
Superman has officially sealed the fate of James Gunn and Peter Safran's rebooted DC Universe. After dominating the box office during the opening weekend, Warner Bros. Discovery has released a statement about the first Dcu film and the upcoming slate of film and TV projects.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has officially chimed in on the success of Superman after an impressive opening weekend. It appears DC fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as the studio head has sung the praise of the first Dcu film, while teasing what's to come. Per Zaslav, next up for DC Studios is Supergirl, which recently wrapped filming; Clayface, a body horror film from Mike Flanagan; and HBO's Lanterns, the adult sci-fi drama starring Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler. Check out the complete statement below:

"Three years ago, I hired James Gunn and Peter Safran to reimagine and unify the creative...

A Full List of Upcoming DC Movies
Image
What, exactly, is going on with DC? The answer is, a lot.

After an aborted attempt by Zack Snyder to create a unified universe of characters and subsequent successful one-offs like “Joker” and “The Batman,” Warner Bros. installed James Gunn and Peter Safran as the new co-CEOs of DC Films, under which they will build out an interconnected Dcu of films, TV shows and video games over the next eight to 10 years.

That universe officially got off and running with “Superman,” written and directed by James Gunn, a colorful and buoyant and unabashedly comic book-y adaptation introducing David Corenswet’s Kal-El to the world. The film’s opening weekend box office and assurances from Wbd boss David Zaslav seem to indicate this DC reboot’s going to stick, at least for now. And there’s a lot in the pipeline.

As for those other DC movies that have already been...

Tony Gilroy Shares Thoughts on Mangold’s Upcoming Star Wars Film: “They’re Going Way Back”
Image
A new Star Wars movie is in the works, and it’s going way back in time, much farther than any film before. Director James Mangold is working on a project reportedly called Jedi Prime, which will explore the very origins of the Jedi Order and the Force itself. The story is set about 25,000 years before the original Star Wars saga, so fans won’t see any familiar characters from previous movies.

Lucasfilm first revealed this film at Star Wars Celebration Europe in April 2023. They said it will kick off a new era in the Star Wars timeline called Dawn of the Jedi. Mangold mentioned that his inspiration for the movie comes from classic biblical epics. He even compared it to The Ten Commandments, calling the film a “Cecil B. DeMille-style biblical epic.”

Mangold began developing this movie while directing Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. At the same time,...

DC stories James Mangold's Swamp Thing movie could use (and the stories it should avoid)
James Gunn
The world of DC Comics' character Swamp Thing is a vast and rich one, with plenty of potential to work on both the big or small screen. The character is expected to return to the silver screen in the near-future, as James Gunn announced the first slate of DC Universe projects a couple of years ago, with a Swamp Thing movie among those announcements. It was subsequently confirmed that James Mangold would helm the film.

Unfortunately, the film, and other Dcu projects, have been hit with setbacks, making their immediate future unclear. With regards to Swamp Thing, it's still in development so it hasn't been canceled outright but whether or not that it will happen in the future (or if it will be pushed back) is currently up in the air.

At this point in time, there isn't a lot known about the story of the potential Swamp Thing movie,...

Jaws, and the films you watched too young
Image
A pick of our favourite reader responses to a question raised by Jaws’ 50th anniversary: which films did you watch at too young an age…?

Last week, in the wake of Jaws’ 50th anniversary, we asked: what films did you see at too young an age? For this writer it was – surprise, surprise – the TV premiere of the aforementioned 1975 shark thriller, which made such an impression on my four year-old mind that I refused to paddle in the sea for months afterwards.

“It was Jaws for me too,” says Film Stories reader Big Dunc. “I was seven when it was on TV for the first time, and I made it as far as the head popping out of the boat. I then took myself to bed but couldn’t sleep because I was too freaked out. I’m pretty sure I slept with the light on for a few weeks after that.

James Gunn Reveals His Favorite Upcoming Dcu Project Hasn’t Even Been Announced Yet
Image
James Gunn teased that his favorite Dcu project so far has not even been announced yet. The fan-favorite filmmaker (known for his work on projects like the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy at Marvel Studios and DC's The Suicide Squad) is about to debut his new vision for the DC brand on the big and small screen in the upcoming David Corenswet-led Superman film. Superman kicks off a slate of projects that includes the likes of Peacemaker, Supergirl, and Lanterns, all set for release sometime in the next year. However, beyond that remains a massive question for Gunn's new superhero venture.

In a new interview, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn hinted that several unannounced projects are in the works within the Dcu, one of which he described as his "favorite thing." These new secret titles seem to be in addition to the already revealed list of titles from January 2023, including the Authority movie,...

James Gunn Just Canceled One of the Dcu's New Movies
Image
It's been over two years since James Gunn's announcement video for the Dcu's first slate of movies, titled "Gods & Monsters." 2025 marks a big year for the rebooted DC Studios, as Superman marks the Dcu's first big-screen release. But, the year comes as a double-edged sword, as it's also the first time one of the previously announced projects has been shelved by Gunn and the studio. DC Studios currently has several movies in development, including The Brave and the Bold, The Authority, a Swamp Thing horror movie, and the recently announced Wonder Woman reboot film. Many of those will likely make it to the big screen. But Gunn is standing strong as DC Studios' last line of defense against underwhelming scripts, and DC's first cancellation is proof of that.

As part of the cover feature for the latest issue of Rolling Stone, James Gunn addressed everything DC Studios, including Superman,...

"We Just Killed A Project": James Gunn Addresses The DC Universe's "Lucky" Record So Far And The Release They Had To Kill
Image
A DC Universe movie gets properly declared dead by DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn. As DC Studios is getting the Dcu franchise up and rolling, with Superman coming out in less than a month, there are still several movies and TV series being worked on for Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters." However, while several Dcu projects have been filmed or are filming at the moment, some have not gone past the development stages, and it appears one of them is not going forward at all.

During a new interview with Rolling Stone, Gunn confirmed that one of the DC Studios movies they had been developing was recently killed. While he wouldn't reveal which specific title it was, Gunn shared the following about the DC movie:

Yeah. We just killed a project. Everybody wanted to make the movie. It was greenlit, ready to go. The screenplay wasn’t ready. And I...

James Gunn Confirms DC's Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow Movie Has Been Retitled
Image
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is no longer the title of the Girl of Steel's first DC Universe movie. While there are reports that Kara Zor-El will first appear in James Gunn's Superman movie, the official first project for the character on the Dcu's slate of releases is a Supergirl solo film. The project is based on the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics written by Tom King, one of the architects of the Dcu, and drawn by Bilquis Evely. While the Supergirl movie will remain linked to the comic book run, their titles will no longer be the same.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, James Gunn revealed that Milly Alcock's Dcu movie will just be called Supergirl. Gunn remembered how he was originally going to call his Superman reboot Superman: Legacy before deciding to shorten the title to just the hero's name. While he did not directly state why he changed the Supergirl title,...

What Did Melissa Barrera Say About Being Cast As Wonder Woman Per Fans’ Demand? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Melissa Barrera didn’t audition. She just spoke honestly, and now DC fans won’t stop talking. While promoting Abigail, the Scream star finally addressed the internet’s campaign to see her wield the Lasso of Truth in James Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe. And her answer? Neither a confirmation nor a denial. But something more impactful: thoughtful reflection on what playing Wonder Woman should mean.

What Did Melissa Barrera Say About Wonder Woman Fan-Cast Going Viral?

Speaking to Collider, Barrera said, “I think it’s nice because of what the character represents. I think whoever gets the role, I just hope that they can embody the essence of the character because I think that those movies, whether they’re Marvel or DC, their reach is so big.”

James Gunn Finally Identifies Lex Luthor's Pale Martian, And His Nickname is Hilarious
Image
James Gunn has identified Lex Luthor's pale Martian seen in the upcoming Superman movie. The character's nickname was hilariously revealed by Gunn and Nicholas Hoult.

In a clip from a Superman promotional interview shared on X (formerly Twitter), Gunn is seen with Hoult, who plays Lex Luthor in the movie, talking about the mysterious white alien creature that fans spotted in footage from the upcoming film. "I remember your son's favorite character was Mr. Handsome," Gunn joked to Hoult. "Me...then Mr. Handsome," Hoult responded with a laugh. "Mr. Handsome is Lex's creature he created in a petri dish that drives around on this flying platform that is the grossest, ugly creature in the world," Gunn confirmed.

The funny nickname for the creature comes as fans are eager to uncover the identities of many mysterious characters that have popped up in new Superman footage in recent weeks. One of...

James Gunn Gives An Update On The Return Of This DC Staple Fans Haven't Seen in 8 Years (& Counting)
Image
Before James Gunn took over DC Studios with his longtime collaborator, Peter Safran, the superhero franchise featured many iconic stories. However, one of the biggest complaints about the overall DC Extended Universe was the lack of consistency in planning.

Gunn's new DC Universe plans to make up for that. The first chapter of the new franchise is titled Gods and Monsters, and will kick off with the upcoming Superman after a soft launch last year with the animated series Creature Commandos. The filmmaker teased in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he has more plans for the universe, which could also include Justice League, an iconic DC staple that hasn't been featured in a while.

Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav proclaimed the Man of Steel is crucial to the longevity of the superhero franchise, alongside Batman, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl. About his statement, Gunn responded,...

James Gunn says a Wonder Woman movie is “being written right now”
James Gunn
Unlike the MCU, much of the Dcu’s plans remain in shadow. While we’ve gained a loose understanding of what James Gunn and Peter Safran’s Gods and Monsters arc entails, with titles like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Clayface, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, The Authority, and Swamp Thing, the House that Superman Build tends to keep details close to the crest before its time for a big reveal. Thankfully, the fine folks at Entertainment Weekly are digging their heels into what’s to come by asking DC Studios co-head James Gunn about the future of a legendary character: Wonder Woman.

While speaking with the outlet, James Gunn confirmed that a new Wonder Woman movie is officially in development. “We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman‘s being written right now,” Gunn said about giving the Warrior Princess of Themyscira a new feature film. In addition to...

James Gunn Announces That A Wonder Woman Movie Is Officially In Development For The Dcu
Image
DC Studios co-chair James Gunn has officially confirmed a new Wonder Woman movie is indeed in the works. This standalone project will exist separately from the previously announced Paradise Lost series for HBO Max.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn provided an update on the Amazonian princess's cinematic future. "Wonder Woman's a separate thing, slow moving, but it's moving," Gunn stated. "We're working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman's being written right now."

This news aligns with earlier comments from Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, who had identified Superman, Supergirl, Batman, and Wonder Woman as the four foundational pillars of the new Dcu. Gunn corroborated this vision, noting, "I think that's accurate, actually. I think that he got that from something I said." He clarified that while these four characters are "incredibly important," they won't be the only focus. "Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are,...

A New 'Wonder Woman' Dcu Film Is "Being Written" Acording to James Gunn
Image
Wonder Woman, one-third of DC's main trinity, has finally gotten an update on a new feature film from DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn. When Gunn first announced his Dcu slate, many fans noticed that a solo Wonder Woman film was not mentioned alongside Superman and the planned Batman film, The Brave and the Bold. There was an HBO prequel series titled Paradise Lost that would focus on the Amazons, but that series was pitched as taking place before the birth of Wonder Woman.

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gunn confirmed that a solo Wonder Woman film is being developed at DC Studios. The film is being actively worked on and is separate from the previously announced Paradise Lost, which is still in development, but Gunn said it was "slow moving, but moving." Gunn did not say who is writing Wonder Woman or Paradise Lost. Regarding Wonder Woman, Gunn said:

"We're working on Wonder Woman.

James Gunn May Be Working on a ‘World’s Finest’ Movie With Superman and Batman
Image
James Gunn is reportedly already hard at work on the next film that will see Superman return to the Dcu. If the rumors are true, a World’s Finest film is in the works, which will feature Batman and Superman headline a project on the silver screen for the first time since Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The rumor comes courtesy of John Rocha and Jeff Sneider, who believe that James Gunn is currently working on a film featuring both Superman and Batman. While this might as well be a Justice League film or a cameo in a Teen Titans movie, the speculation has skewed towards a World’s Finest film, which may or may not be in development.

David Corenswet's 'Superman' Gets a Little Roughed Up in New McFarlane Toys Figure
Image
David Corenswet’s Superman is about to race faster than a speeding bullet into theaters. We're just about a month away from the epic DC film from director James Gunn. Because of that, the merchandise for the high-flying adventure has already been hitting store sleeves. This has included action figures from McFarlane Toys. Now the popular superhero toy company is back with their latest figure for Superman.

A part of McFarlane's seven-inch scale DC Multiverse line, the Gold Label figure is Battle Damage Superman. This is the third figure McFarlane has made for Corenswet's Man of Steel. Previously they released a normal Collector Edition figure and a Theatrical Edition that included Krypto the Superdog. They also released a wave of Super Powers figures featuring Superman and his DC friends alongside a new statue for this version of the character. Like the name implies, this new figure sees Superman's costume all...
