Emmy-nominated actress Lily James has teamed with theater and film producer Gala Gordon to formally launch their own banner, Parodos Productions.

The British, female-led production company will, according to Gordon, have a clear aim to “champion stories of female resilience,” with plans to work across film, TV and theater.

For James, Parodos lands at a moment in her career when she says she was “longing for more agency and really wanting to take charge of the stories I want to tell.”

The first feature out of the block for Parodos is the upcoming big screen “Cliffhanger” reboot, fronted by James and due for release next year. Parodos produces in association with StudioCanal and Rocket Science, with James and Gordon both executive producing. In the company’s upcoming development slate are film and TV projects with the likes of Working Title Films, StudioCanal, Made Up Stories, Fifth Season, Altitude Films and author Lisa Taddeo.

Hungarian queer drama Places Half Empty led the winners at Sarajevo Film Festival’s CineLink Industry Days, receiving the €20,000 Eurimages co-production development award.

The project will be the second feature for Hungarian filmmaker Dorka Vermes, written by Sara Torley-Havas and produced by Evelyn Balogh and Botond Lelkes for Non Lieu Film Productions. It depicts two women – one working as an illegal cab driver, the other an affluent suburban woman trying to escape her family – who meet and fall in love.

Macedonian director Mitic’s debut feature will follow a 17-year-old girl who gets pregnant after a threesome with her classmates; and her attempts to hide the pregnancy become more difficult during a graduation excursion.

Chris Hemsworth's submarine thriller, Subversion, casts its female lead in the form of an Emmy-nominated star. Earlier this year, it was announced that Hemsworth would be starring in a submarine action thriller for Amazon MGM Studios, directed by Patrick Vollrath, whose debut feature was the plane hijack thriller 7500, with a script written by Andrew Ferguson, known only for the short film Love Thy Neighbor.

The film follows a once-promising Naval commander (played by Chris Hemsworth) who is coerced by a cartel-style operation into captaining a submarine smuggling illegal cargo through international waters. Forced into a deadly game of cat and mouse, he must outmaneuver naval blockades and navigate several threats lurking both inside the vessel and beyond its hull.

Now, several months after it was first announced, Hemsworth's submarine thriller has found its female lead. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Subversion has cast Lily James in a lead role.

James started her career on the small screen, appearing as cousin Rose in the final four seasons of Downton Abbey, before making the jump to the big screen in 2015 with her breakthrough role as Cinderella in Disney's live-action remake of its animated classic. She followed Cinderella with supporting roles, often as the love interest, in Baby Driver, Yesterday, and The Iron Claw. She also returned to television for the miniseries War & Peace, The Pursuit of Love, and Pam & Tommy, the latter of which she starred as Pamela Anderson, a role that earned her an Emmy nomination.

Millie Bobby Brown grew to fame thanks to her role in Netflix's hit sci-fi series Stranger Things and continued her partnership with Netflix with the Enola Holmes film series. The mystery franchise has already released two films, with another one on the way.

Brown recently shared a new update in early March that Enola Holmes 3 would start filming soon. The film series is based on Nancy Springer's book series The Enola Holmes Mysteries, with Brown playing the titular character, the teenage sister of the Victorian-era detective Sherlock Holmes. Per Netflix, Enola Holmes 3 is now officially in production in the UK.

Netflix announced today that Enola Holmes 3 has started production in the UK. Millie Bobby Brown will return as Sherlock Holmes’ equally brilliant younger sister in the anticipated sequel.

In the third film, adventure chases detective Enola Holmes to Malta, where personal and professional dreams collide on a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before.

You’ll have to wait and see what brings her to Malta, but once she’s arrived, Enola is flung into a nest of vipers. As the private detective juggles a new case and the next stages of her relationship with Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge), the game is truly afoot.

Based on The Enola Holmes Mysteries book series by Nancy Springer, the third movie is directed by Philip Barantini from a script by Jack Thorne. Thorne wrote the first two films, which Harry Bradbeer directed.

Shueisha’s Grand Jump magazine just released the final chapter of Karakida-ke no Kosho Gurashi by Kei Toume. This series followed three sisters who take over their grandfather’s old bookstore in Tokyo’s Jinbōchō district, a famous area for second-hand books and publishing.

Toume started this manga in 2021, and after a three-year run, it’s coming to a close. The sixth and last compiled volume will hit shelves in May.

This isn’t the first time Toume has ended a series in recent years. Kūden no Himegimi wrapped up in May 2021.

That manga continued the story from Kūden Noise no Himegimi, which originally appeared in Comic Birz in 2016 before shifting to Evening magazine in 2019. The final volume came out the same year Karakida-ke no Kosho Gurashi began.
