If you've ever spent any time in the woods this movie is comedy gold. If you haven't, take my word for it this is comedy gold. An urbanite goes into the woods for 6 days for inspiration to write a "great novel". He hears noises. He gets scared. He runs and screams. A lot. Oh, his girlfriend thinks this is a horrible idea. She's the only smart character in this preposterously inane script. We get the requisite "is anyone there?" yells, the random talk to the camera scenes, the "how the hell are those batteries lasting so long?" thoughts, and of course, the quotation of scripture (yep) from a character who made no mention of religion previously. This is pretty lousy. It gets two stars for being unintentionally hilarious.
PS: Spoilers??? What is there to spoil??? Take this man's camera. Forever.

Some pretentious loser decides to go out into the woods for a week but - to no surprise - scary stuff ensues.
Hardly an original plot for a found footage movie, but some Blair witch knockoffs in recent years have been decent, Survive The Hollow Shoals for example had some creepy scenes and an engaging one-man cast. The Nothing on the other hand, does not have an engaging lead. In Shoals the man is a Bear Grylls type man who teaches survival techniques which increasingly get harder as he finds he cannot leave. Here, however, our main man just attempts to philosophize about how a regular job isn't for him, his beautiful girlfriend is too concerned for him, blah blah blah.
Then he hears a spooky noise, talks about being scared and brings it back to him. Dear God man, just shut up!
Bad acting all around, no plot, no scares. The amount of time you should give this movie is in its title: Nothing.

They were trying to create some sort of Shakespearian "Descent into madness" theme, but these writers, my friend, are no Shakespeare. If you enjoy over an hour of a chubby guy breaking down like a wimp and crying, with the occasional interlude of "hearing things" and with literally no monster view payoff in the end, then this is your lucky day! Otherwise, avoid this garbage. It is a moralizing flop, and they did not even reward the viewer with a monster sighting. I mean, a guy in a furry monster suit would have been better than nothing!

This movie actually made me register to IMDb. It was so unnecessary to make. Not really interested in the obviousness of how being isolated may cause stress and or anxiety. To imply nothing but insanity in itself makes this no different than every person's life should they choose it.
I've watched bad movies. This just plain disappoints like no other bad movie. He wasn't a horrible actor, they were all sufficient considering the movie. Just the madness he slips into is nothing different than me for watching, just a lot less time to get there.
Let's make a movie about not drinking water and how it will kill you next.
Please save your time and frustration.
That was similar to constipation, no matter how long you wait it sucks and the best result can only be crap.

This is actually reminiscent of
"The Blair witch project"
IF...You'd slashed the lousy budget of that flick in half,
AND you cut out anything slightly scary or entertaining.
I lasted (read: wasted) 45 minutes before pulling the plug and that was 35 minutes to long.
If i had to justify the score of 1, it would be because the guys girlfriend was quite ok.
Simply terrible!

A graduate forces a self imposed isolation in the middle of the woods to try to find himself and his creativity. With this experience he is going to finally be able to write his best seller. His (annoying) girlfriend drops him off and only she knows where he is. During the film I certainly forgot to listen to how long he was supposed to be out there, it turns out it was only 48hrs. And this is where my interest wained and I really wanted to turn it off. His girlfriend actually came up with a decent plot that she could be wiped out by a lorry on the way home and no one would know where he was. But alas this was not the case.
So ill-prepared even for a brownie girl camp, our intrepid writer gets to grips with living in the 'wilderness' (if you listen closely, you can hear traffic in the background). Taken from Blair Witch but without any sense of suspense or tension, weird noises happen in the woods.
Having to suffer my own isolation due to Covid-19, with intermitent broadband and crap all on TV, I thought I would feel this guy's pain. Actually I just wanted something nasty to happen to him. I invested my time in watching the whole film, (film used extremely loosely) but I got nothing back except for characters who I wished would do us all a favour and put themselves and us out of our misery.
So desperately waiting for something exciting to happen, with all honesty it doesn't.
This is part of the 'Found Footage' Horror Genre, and it may have been better if this could have been buried and not found again.

When it comes to Independent and lower budget movies, alot of prople push them away just because they don't have a $50million budget.
This movie was clearly made by a group of people who had an idea and went out and did it.
It shows how a persons mind acts when you have no one around for that long just your own thoughts in an unfamiliar place.
So this was actually a fun watch, definitely alot deeper than what is shows, really have to get in the mindset of the main character start to finish. did i laugh at the bad jokes? yes. did i get nervous at times? yes. did i ask myself what was about to happen? yes.
the group behind this wanted to create something deep and i do believe they achieved it. just the 1 star reviews are people going in expecting Endgame special effects and The hills have eyes violence.
like i said, they proved you do not need a high budget, A class actors, explosions and super CGI to create a movie.
watch it. it's worth it, very much so.

Even though the main actor isn't really a actor and more of an assistant director he did a good job giving off real emotion it almost made it seem real

The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because some of the woods in the dark parts are scary. I suggest you start the film at 34 minutes and stop it at an hour at ten minutes.

If there is something that should be put at the top of the list of qualities of an independent movie, it is the courage to raise complex issues with minimum resources.
The question of resources makes the filmmaker become a brave thinker and that is what Clayton Thompson shows.
In my opinion, the filmmaker managed with success the tension in the plot throughout the film.
I really enjoyed his descent into madness.
Great job. Recommended movie.

You've done a real good job here, sir.
The movie is good, it feels real, it has soul in it - and that is why, nowadays, I prefer low budget horror over those big hollywood titles.
This here has some class to it, some uniqueness, even though the story itself is not new.
The atmosphere is set just right to lure you into the picture, to allow you to feel it through.
It is scary and creepy, what makes it good, but unfortunately, it never peaks to something unbearably horrifying, which I believe, would've made it an excellent piece.
I still watched it with pleasure and would recommend it to others.
Thanks!

Clayton Thompson wrote, directed and stars as
a recent college graduate.
He decides to go alone in the woods and write a story. No disturbances or distractions is his goal.
Strange occurrences begin happening and the solitude is Getting the better of him.
Scary as hell in the tradition of Blair Witch
project.

I don't have much love for the found footage format, it's usually barely watchable and self indulgent, poorly produced, cheap crap.
The Nothing begins as most found footage films do, with a nice, clear explanation of what the film is all about. Because we need that don't we, because we are all too stupid to work out what's going on, aren't we.
But The Nothing, although following this tried and tested route at first, chooses a slightly different path.
A man, Clayton, graduates, has a wonderful girlfriend and good friends but is suffering from a mental crisis. He chooses to confront this crisis by sitting alone in the woods.
To be honest I think this is a great idea and in my own way I have done something similar. I recognised the existential angst, the fear of failure driving Clayton to the middle of the woods.
However, what Clayton ends up finding in the woods is that the woods end up becoming his fears. The isolation and fear intensifies. The darkness becomes his sense of self and so what is he experiencing? Is there some out there or is it in his mind.
Yes there are inevitable comparisons to Blair Witch but I think this is vastly better. There is a deeper psychological edge to this. The Nothing is a journey into a kind of self-induced psychosis, an essay on fear and how fear works.
In the same way that other film makers have used the Horror genre to explore mental health, Clayton Thompson uses the found footage format to present a talking head performance within which he relentlessly dissects himself. He is his own mass murdering slasher.
I also liked the way this film leaves questions unanswered and retains a sense of mystery.
Lots of one star reviews for this and as usual they are way off the mark. A very bold piece of film making.

Amazing to me that we somehow think our own subjective opinions on a film are the objective facts. The reaction to this film reveals only this: what you bring to the mirror gets reflected. The cleaner the mirror, the clearer the reflection.
The antagonist for Clayton's film is Silence, the protagonist is Ego. This sets the stage for a truly interesting, terrifying story which is going to be catnip for some and anthrax for others. Clayton if you're ever reading this, that's the nature of art, brother. Chin up, I sincerely applauded.
If my review resonated at all with your inner life, the film is highly recommended. If my review sounded like psychobabble, give the film a pass :).
