Two things drew me to watch the 2022 fantasy adventure movie "A Fairy Tale After All", and that was the movie's cover/poster and also the fact that I hadn't already seen the movie. So of course I opted to sit down to watch it and see what writer and director Erik Peter Carlson had to offer.
"A Fairy Tale After All" is definitely a well-suited family movie, I will say that much, and the storyline was adequate. However, it was just a bit too Disneyesque for me. You know, where everything is something that has to be delivered by singing. Yeah, there certainly was a lot of singing in this movie, and it wasn't exactly what I was expecting.
The storyline felt somewhat chaotic and scrambled, and as it if was somewhat devoid of a proper red thread for the audience to follow. So it was something that was reminiscent of writer and director Erik Peter Carlson just making things up as he went along.
The acting performances in "A Fairy Tale After All" were adequate. It wasn't a cast ensemble that I was familiar with, and that is something I do enjoy when I watch movies. It was Bridget Winder, playing Madame Mizrabel, whom actually stood out as the most memorable in the movie in my opinion, both in performance and most interesting character.
Aside from the human cast, then the movie also made use of puppets in the form of animal teddy bear-like creatures. They were actually enjoyable and fun, as they added a comic relief to the storyline. And truth be told, they were actually nicely made.
If you enjoy fairy tales, then I suppose "A Fairy Tale After All" should be something right up your alley. However, all the singing just took the overall enjoyment down a notch or two for me, as did the somewhat disjointed storyline.
My rating of "A Fairy Tale After All" lands on a less than mediocre four out of ten stars.

I saw positive reviews about this and I'm even more confused than this movie left me? Bad acting, bad directing, absolutely chaotic and messy plot, too scary for children but definitely not coherent enough for adults. Also, they put on these huge unnatural contact lenses on the lead actress that made her off-putting at best, and scary at worst. Speaking of which, I know most movies cast adults to play teens, but she could not pass as a teen at all, it was actually bothersome to watch. I want to know who thought that this, any part of this, was a good idea, and who (and why?!) reviewed it positively. I rarely experience something so horrid, but I did this time, and if I save one person from going through this mind-numbing, bizarre and all around baffling experience, it'll be worth leaving this review.
I came nostalgic for the fantasy puppet movies of my youth and was willing to forgive a lot. This film is unforgivable. Possibly the worst I've ever seen. Reminds me of highschool av club made movies. I still dont know what the plot was if there was one so I couldn't write spoilers if i tried. I think someone got a free package of thunder and lighting effects and assumed thats all you need to tie scenes together. The 40 something playing a teen is also weird but hardly worth mentioning with how bad every other detail is. Pure cringe.
Awfully directed! The whole movie is based on a really terrible storyline which hasn't even been properly shown to the viewers . The songs are hideously bad , the scenes have no effort of proper directing. The lighting, videography really isn't up to the level of an fantasy . The effects displayed of the parallel universe dimensions are not at all sequenced together proportionately. The drift of the different dimensions aren't portrayed and co-ordinated quite right at all . The movie looks moreover like straightaway from an horror universe with rather complex fantasy characters which are hard to understand and hard to walk with the story . The animations and Gif-like pictures , vids and funny noises makes the movie more worse .
Oh, my god! Why did I decide to watch this film? This film is so terrible. From casting to original score, everything's bad. Bad enough to unbearable. I couldn't continue after 30 minutes. (I even regretted that I watched for 30 minutes.) So, for me, it's not worth to watch it.
Must avoid film.
